Seal Identification workshop at South Walney Wildlife Nature Reserve

Seal Identification workshop at South Walney Wildlife Nature Reserve on Wednesday 29/10/2014 - 10-1pm

Seals
 Seals on South Walney

Enjoy learning about our local seal colony on the reserve. We'll start in the classroom looking at different identifying features and then take you to the best seal spotting sites.

Bring binoculars if you have them. The walk is 3km long. 

A tramper is available for use by individuals with mobility problems if booked 24 hours in advance of the event.

Places are limited so booking is essential. Ring 01539 816300 or email   mail@cumbriawildlifetrust.org.uk  

Please note that refreshments are not available on the reserve.

FREE Barrow’s Wildside events

'An introduction to identifying trees in Summer'
Sat 8 June, 1-3pm meet at How Tun Wood car park, Cliffe Lane. Book your place by calling 01229 716300.
Come along and have the secrets of tress unlocked on this guided walk aimed at those with little knowledge of identifying trees in the summer months. The walk is approx 1.5 miles long.

Entry is completely FREE with great prizes for the best photos.
Three categories;

13 years and under (CAT 1)
14-17 years (CAT 2)
18 years and over (Cat 3)

Please submit digital images by email to  barrowspringwatch@cumbriawildlifetrust.org.uk – maximum size 10MB per email.

Please label your images with your name, address location of photo and category entered i.e. CAT 1, CAT 2 or CAT 3.

Health and Wildlife
Tuesday 19 June 2012 11–12noon. A joint walk with Feet First in Furness as part of their healthy walking initiative. A gentle walk looking at the more common wildflower and birds to be found near the town centre.

Bats live in our towns and cities too! Come along and learn a bit about different types of bats living on Barrow Island. Bring a torch and a bat detector if you have one!! The event is FREE

Sustainable Seafood at the Dock Museum

Talk and Taster – 'Sustainable Seafood'

Sunday 20 May 2012. 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm at the Dock Museum, North Road, Barrow-in-Furness LA14 2PW

Diana is a past finalist on Britain's Best Dish with her damson and apple pie, and will cook up a storm in the kitchen with simple, effective recipes to inspire the use of fresh seafood. Come along and take part in an interactive seafood workshop and learn a little more about how to be more sustainable in your seafood choices. Diana will lead people through the preparation of a seafood dish, while some insights and ideas are offered surrounding sustainable practices for buying and consuming seafood in Cumbria and the North West.

To book on to one of three workshops (approx. 45 mins) call into the Dock Museum where tickets will be available in advance and on the day. The event is £2.50 for adults and 50p for children and numbers are limited so get in quick!

Barrow’s Wildside - Natterjack toad & coralroot orchid survey day

Help the rangers to monitor these 2 rare and special species. No previous experience is necessary and all are welcome. Please bring a packed lunch, warm clothes and waterproofs

Meet at 11.00 am at Sandscale Haws car park, Hawthwaite Lane, Roanhead.

We will be walking approx. 3 miles and hope to finish around 3.00 pm.
