I tend to do the same thing, Cheri. Get the book - love looking through it - proceed to bury it somewhere. I'd love to have the opportunity to do the same with this book! ;o)

That sounds a visual treat! Yes, please, do add me in though I am determined not to try and learn any more crafts this year - I am telling myself this is an extension of what I do already!
And the winner is:

Pass The Book

As the original recipient of The Artist Unique in Pass the Book, year two, hosted by the fabulous Melissa, I'm ashamed to admit that after devouring this book within the first week after receipt, it ended up at the bottom of a pile on my end table. I've been hanging onto it well beyond when I should! Ooops...

Time for this wonderful book to find a new home. I want to give everyone a good chance to put in their bids... so leave a comment on this post and I'll draw a winner on Sunday (the 29th) and mail the book out next Monday (the 30th). Which gives me a little more time to enjoy it! Tee hee.

If you are curious about art journaling, love looking at beautiful art with heavily saturated colors, or are willing to play with some new techniques, then you'll love this book!

Guest Post - Your Help Needed!

Today I'm allowing Sarah to hijack my blog for a really great charity that she is supporting.  Maybe you can help her out.  Here's the deal in her own words:

One of the organizations I'm involved in (Students in Free Enterprise) is trying to win a $5,000 grant for a local nonprofit organization called Ashburn's Animals on a Mission.  Ashburn's is located in central Pennsylvania and is a nonprofit that provides a haven for abandoned and mistreated animals of all kinds (seriously- all kinds! horses, ponies, rabbits, donkeys, goats, sheep, llamas, alpacas, teacup pot belly pigs, an African tortoise, a miniature cow... the list goes on).

They then use those animals in therapeutic programs both on and off the farm to help people in all types of need. They work with camps for children with cancer and other illnesses, special needs programs, and even have a literacy program that helps young children who are struggling to learn how to read. It's an amazing cause, and I've been going down to the farm whenever I can to help out.

The grant that we are trying to obtain is through a website called TrueHero.org, which provides grants for nonprofit organizations (up to $5,000).  They are awarded based on how many votes each project gets, and we've fallen behind some other nonprofits that have really big schools supporting them.  Last year, we placed 4th and won $1,000.  If we are able to win this year, the money will be used to build a new barn (the blueprints are all ready to go!) so that they can continue to take in rescued horses.

All it takes is a minute of your time to go on, enter your email address to vote, and then click the link in the email you'll get to confirm your vote.  We really appreciate any support that we can get!

(They won't spam you! It's just one email, and you have to click the link in the email to confirm your vote, and that's it!)

And the link to the organization's webpage in case anyone's interested: http://ashburnsanimals.com/

Thanks so much for your help!
-Sarah

Take Twelve - April

still using the same template, but decided to pass on the journaling block and run a couple of photos across two blocks.  The pretty butterfly embellie in the title block is by Katie Pertiet at Designer Digitals.

Ten on the Tenth - April Edition

I'm beginning to think if it weren't for these memes, I wouldn't be blogging at all! Which isn't entirely true, but goodness things have been so busy lately!

This month I'm following along with Paper Coterie's April Photo Challenge.  I'm adding these photos to my 2012 Focus Album, some with journaling...

1.  My Home.  I've been here 24 years!

2.  My Handwriting.  In my journal. Responding to a class prompt from 21 Secrets.

3. My Smile.  I have an unusually small mouth. As a result, even my biggest smile is barely wider than the widest part of my nose.  No such thing as an "ear to ear" grin from me. My smile shows more in my eyes.

4. My Reflection.  This is actually a double.  Sitting at my desk in my office there is a window behind me overlooking the parking lot.  In front of me is a window looking into the main part of the office.  By shooting my own reflection, I also picked up the reflection of the parking lot behind me!

5. My  favorite shoes - flip flops in the summer, scuffs in the winter.  I'm all about comfort. No girly girl heels for me.  And if I had my preference, I'd rather be barefoot!

6. My Morning.  Always starts with breakfast and a check of my email and blogs!

7.  My Town.  My kids will tell you there is NOTHING to do here. But this sleepy little borough has been a great place to raise them!

8. My Sunday.  Happened to be Easter! Not much candy in the baskets this year.

9. My True Love.  I had to dig out an old photo for this one.  Nothing current available.  Need to work on that!

10. My Transportation.  A 2002 Honda Odyssey mini van with 124,000 miles on it.  And I have no interest whatsoever in trading in or trading up! With a new transmission installed last month, I'm hoping this car lasts me another 4 or 5 years!

One Little Word Blog Hop - April Edition on Storytelling Sunday

Hello! Whether you arrived here from Kara's blog as part of the One Little Word Blog Hop, or from a linky from Sian's blog as part of Storytelling Sunday, or you are here because you love me and drop by regularly... Welcome! I love visitors!
The entire One Little Word blog hop goes live at 8:00 a.m. Pacific (11:00 my time) so if you are early, just check back later to catch everyone!
Today I'm going to tell you something you don't know about me, but you have to promise not to laugh first.
Promise?
Because this is kind of embarrassing.
I mean really, PROMISE???
okay, here goes...
...
...
I'm afraid of technology.
There, I said it. I'm afraid of technology. I can't pick up a device and just start playing like my kids do. Yes, you'd never know it seeing as I have a blog and obviously know how to create a post. And I digi-scrap and clearly have learned my way around (at least parts of) Photoshop Elements. But really and truly, technology scares the beejeebers out of me. All those buttons. How do you know which ones to push and what they do? And why oh why does nothing these days come with an owner's manual or written instructions??? ... really, it's terrifying.
This is terrifying:
THREE remotes. At our house it takes THREE different remotes just to operate the DVD player. I had never learned which buttons to push for what because someone else was always around to start the movies.
Apparently, the silver one powers up the television. The long one is used to change the "input" so that it is pointed to the DVD player instead of to the Comcast box. The last one actually operates the DVD player.

I got these exercise DVD's for Christmas:
I tried to use them in January when I was away at a scrapbooking retreat - tried to play them on my laptop. And couldn't get either one to work. No surprise... the laptop doesn't come with instructions either. Bleh.
But I really did want to incorporate these into my "movement" routine.
As the March assignment for One Little Word, Ali asked us to commit to "one little thing" - one action related to our word. My word is FOCUS - and for March I was focusing on MOVEMENT. And I wanted to start using these videos.
So I committed to getting Jay to teach me how to use the DVD player. And then to actually use those DVD's at least three times each.
(Note: I still have plenty of the page protectors from last year, so I'm doing the March assignment with those, not how Ali has it set up this year).
I made that commitment back on March 2nd or 3rd. And then ignored it. For half the month I did nothing to honor that commitment. Not only was I skipping out on moving a lot of days, but I had also gone hog-wild (pun intended) eating every kind of bad carb imaginable. I couldn't get enough sweets.
And by mid-March I was ready to write off the entire month as a failure of epic proportions.
But as you can see, I didn't!
On the 18th, I finally prevailed upon my dear spouse to teach me how to use the DVD player. I learned what all THREE remotes are for and which buttons to push. And I wrote it down in a notebook because I knew I would forget!
Of course, I did forget. I had to refer to those notes the next three days in a row as I started using the DVD's. But I finally got it! I no longer need the notes, I know how to operate the DVD player, and I have put the DVDs to good use.
I have conquered my fear of the DVD player and the stack of remotes that go with it.
Now if someone could teach me the finer points of using my Blackberry...
