Back on the Wagon, and hanging by a thread

So I've been told that by 6th months after having a baby, most women will be back to their pre-pregnancy weight. Unfortunately, I was not warned that though stepping on the scales is okay, my weight distribution is sorely out of wack. Isn't my little stomach chub supposed to be gone by now?

To help alleviate this unsightly thing, I set a New Years Resolution to run a race this year, in an effort to get me back into the habit of running—despite my 2 year "vacation" from it. My initial efforts were drenched by not being selected from a half-marathon lottery in Minnesota that I wanted to run in June. So my second choice is to run the "Dam-To-Dam" half marathon at the end of May. My 4 month training plan was then chopped to 3 months to train. Then, because of numerous other reasons—aka—excuses (freezing temperatures, ice, snow, vacation, sickness, lack of sleep, blah, blah blah, you name it—I'll use it), my original 16 week training is now cut down to 8 weeks.

To make a long story short(er), today was my first attempted run. I started with an easy 1 miler. Ha. That "easy" run became a 13 minute run, plus 5 minutes of walking AND 3 minutes of lying down on a strangers lawn in order to avoid fainting. Hmm, a 5k race is sounding much more enticing than a 13 mile run...

okay Chelsea, YOU are the one that is NUTS!!! You are SOOOO tiny. I don't want to hear you complaining! As for the run, you're hillarious! That first attempt back into working out is always not so fun. Good Luck!

Chelsea, I saw you not long after you had Ethan and you were really skinny then =) I was actully just talking with some friends the other day about the same topic. The tummy never going back to normal. =) One lady thatI was talking with is a instructor at the gym I go to. She works out everyday for 1-2 hours and she said her extra tummy is still there. =)

Tummy's there to stay (crunching on a cheeto at 10 p.m.) But you look great, Chel. We'd probably all feel a little better if low rise jeans could hurry and go out of style though!

You are amazing to get back into the marathon mode - especially when a "good" night for you is "only" getting up with adorable E 3x! You go! (Oh, and I'd have loved seeing you laying on the stranger's lawn. Just think if you HAD passed out there - that could have gotten really interesting!

I have to agree with Carmelle. Although I FINALLY got below my pre-pregnacy weight... it doesnt seem to make me feel any better. The tummy chub is still my biggest problem. I have to say though, when I saw you at Thanksgiving and Ethan was like, a day old, you were already smaller than Ive ever been!!! You look great- try not to put too much pressure on yourself.

good luck with the racing stuff. i started training for a marathon this past summer(3 mths after i had addy). i trained for about 4 weeks then hurt my foot. by that time though i had completely talked myself out of running or training. and went back to my routine of ice cream for breakfast and oreos for lunch. i told myself i will try better next year.

chelsea you are hilarious....and don't even get me started on baby weight....The good thing is that no one in Maryland ever knew me before I was pregnant (except my frusturated husband of course), so they all tell me how skinny i am - but if they knew me back in the day they'd understand my issues! Good luck with the run. You crack me up.

This post made me laugh. I have layed on many strangers lawns because of fear of fainting. Glad to know I am not the only one.

I was talking to Chihiro the other day about how funny it is that skinny Brian and Chelsea have such a chubby little Ethan!! I crack up at the fact Ethan almost doubles Ellie, and they are only 3 weeks apart!

Props to you for trying to run a marathon, and sorry to break it to you, your body will NEVER be the same again. I have lost all my baby weight and more, but still have "2 babies were here" written all over my tummy. You know what they, children move out, but stretch marks are forever! he he

You're so witty - I love it. And whatever "people" say, the weight/crazy pouches of chub take forever to go away. 18 months later I'm just now getting back to normal and that was with some serious slim fast action. Good luck with the running!

hahaha and to think I have been missing running since I have been pregnant- what was I thinking?! I loved the last part about lying on someone lawn so not to faint!

You're kidding right? Every Sunday I look at you and think, there's no way that girl just had a baby (and a big baby at that). You look so good! (I wish I could have seen you take a rest on someone's lawn! Hilarious! Keep up the good work though)
