Sweet Birthday Wishes at International Art & Soul

This fortnight at the International Art & Soul Challenge our challenge is Birthday.

I used the Hanging Charm Pull Tab die set from Karen Burniston/Elizabeth Craft Designs. The papers are from Authentique. The Cupcake stamp is from Pinkfresh Studio, and is part of a super-cute set I won at the Mesa Stamp & Scrapbook Expo. The silverware charms a from Bead Landing, and the pretty seam binding is from Paper Sweeties. I stamped the sentiment onto a scrap of printable acetate in StazOn ink, and colored in on the rough side with Copic markers. I added some Stickles to the frame, and put a message section on the back.

Miss You a Latte! -- Summer with the Coffee Loving Cardmakers

Happy Summer! A new season means a new Blog Hop with the Coffee Loving Cardmakers, and I always enjoy playing along. This time, I used the Hanging Charm Pull Tab die set from Karen Burniston/Elizabeth Craft Designs. It's in the mail to my folks right now!

The double-sided patterned paper is from BoBunny. The frame & coffee sleeve are cut from an actual cardboard coffee sleeve. The coffee cup is cut from shiny yellow, glitter yellow, and shiny green cardstocks. The sentiment & coffee bean stamps are from Stampin' Up. I added some dimension & detail with gold & red ViVa Pearl Pens. Because this card is sort of meant to lie flat, I put a message section directly on the back. Shows off that yummy paper too!

Enchilada, Mama?

I'm participating in a recipe swap at Stampin' Dymonz Scrap Shack (SDSS), and had a leftover embellishment that I decided to make a card with. Since I used Enchiladas for my recipe, I had colored this cute Cook digi from Tellen's Place Designs and added some handmade paper enchiladas (adapted from a paper taco I saw in a magazine; see instructions at the bottom of this post). Mom got a real kick out of this idea, so this card's for her.

I was really drawn to this week's photo at Cupcake Inspirations (right), and had lots of fun with it. Yes I know Anne-Marie: more purple! But there's plenty of pink in there too!

I was inspired to make a Sliding Pop Up Card thanks to Croms' great tutorial at SDSS. I made a few earlier in the year, but it was fun to try again.

The paper flowers are from a bunch we bought recently in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. They really hold up well & bounce back from anything!

Stampin' Dymonz Scrap Shack: Sliding Pop Up Card

Stamps: Kiss the Cook by Tellen's Place Designs, sentiment by TLC Creations
Paper: Recollections, Hammermill
, stash DP
Tools: Fiskars papercutter, Martha Stewart scissors & corner/border punch, HP printer & ink, Adobe InDesign, Cricut & SCAL
, Recollections punch
Other: ZipDry glue, ZIG glue pen,
Copic markers, Offray ribbon

How to make tiny paper enchiladas:
  1. Tortilla: Cut or punch out a circle, and fold it loosely into thirds. (I used a 3/4 inch punch)
  2. Lettuce: Cut out a piece of green paper slightly longer than the circle & about 1/8 inch wide. Use scissors to "fringe" the edges on the short sides.
  3. Enchilada: Glue lettuce onto middle section of tortilla. Fold up enchilada. Apply a small amount of glue onto bottom flap; fold over top flap and secure with a clip to dry.
  4. Cheese: Glue a mix of yellow & orange flocking onto top of enchilada. (I used only yellow in this example)

Bees and Blossoms

Mom sent me this cute Bee Girl image she picked up at one of Jennifer Dove's classes at Crop Girls in Arizona. I used it to practice with my brand-new Florescent Yellow Copic marker, and was so taken with the result that I decided to build a card around it.

Happily, I had my eyes on the
Signs of Spring challenge at Cute Card Thursday. I just knew that I wanted to use this cherry blossom photograph paper for the background, even though I wasn't sure how well it would work. I love this paper, but never find quite the right place for it...except this time, me thinks.

I decided to make a Sliding Pop-Out card, because it makes layering really easy. I stamped some flowers in lightest pink onto vellum, and them stamped a brighter pink onto the back to make the lighter stamp pop. I used the same stamp for the brown border on the sliding-out message portion.

One of my favorite parts of this image is that she's made to sit on something; the artist's example showed using a ribbon, which I love, but I decided to make a little cherry blossom branch for her. I'm loving stamping multiple colors on one stamp!

Thanks for the inspiration, I had tons of fun with this challenge!
