Tra-Le-Braccia-Degli-Angeli-New work

It seems to me that we could all use a guardian angel right about now.  I do believe in them.  I have actually experienced situations that I cannot explain otherwise. This is my newest painting.  It has a jewel- like iconic affect.  Thanks for looking.

Tree Of Life III new original painting by Catherine Nolin

Today is my youngest son Samuel's 18th birthday.  It's hard to believe.  For those of you who don't know about Sam he was diagnosed with autism and a few other medical conditions when he was two.  It's difficult to put into words how I feel today. Life has been a bittersweet emotional roller coater so far.  Sam has touched so many lives without ever knowing.  His very exsistance  has brought couple's together, made us experts on alternative medicine and diet, taught compassion, acceptance and to never take anything for granted.
I painted this Tree of Life because Sam has so much life to live and things to learn.  I will think positively about  him during this new year,  full of growing and healing.  This new painting is 20x16 painted on stretched canvas.  Available for sale in my Etsy shop  www.catherine47.etsy.com

Staying In~Original Painting

I tried to finish this piece before it got too dark outside so I could take a good photo. I managed to finish in time buts since it's a gray rainy day, it's just too dark to get a good shot but here is the" low light version."  I'll re shoot tomorrow in better conditions.
Our little kitty Leonardo is trying to get outside any chance he gets but we have decided for his own safety  that he can't be an outside cat. We will bring the outside to him !  This painting is 14x11 painted on stretched canvas.

Pinstripes and Calla Lilies

This is my latest painting.    It's funny how the people in my paintings end up resembling family members unintentionally.  This gentlemen looks a lot like my grandfather(whom I've never met)  on my mother's side. That's Leo there on his arm.  Can you tell my husband and I like Boardwalk  Empire? Season two is great so far.  I find the clothing from that period so inspiring.
This painting is 14x11 painted with acrylics on canvas. The sides have been painted so no frame is needed.  Wired and ready to hang! To purchase this or any other paintings I have available go to:

Madeline Dreams of a more simplistic life.

The painting within my paintings was taken from a black and white photo I came across on one of the millions of blogs I peruse daily.  I wish I had bookmarked the site so I could tell you more.  I just liked the way she looked and of course her lovely contrasting dress.  I believe that is called pasymetry?  Anyway, as I began to paint this piece I decided to loosen up my brush strokes and create a more painterly look.  This painting is 16x20 painted on stretched canvas and will be accompanying me to South Portland this Saturday.  I will be for sale in my Etsys Shop until then.

Enlightened Botanical

This is my latest painting.  It's 11x14 painted on stretched canvas.  I will be showing my new work at Art In The Park in South Portland ME on August 13th.  This is new show for me but  since my sister lives right down the street in Cape Elizabeth, it's a good excuse for a visit as well.
I plan  on posting another painting this week however, my son, Max (20 years old) is preparing for a cross country trip which also involves organic farming along the way.  He is leaving Friday morning for 4 months!  Although I am not thrilled that he has decided to put finishing college on hold, this is a once in a life time experience that he will have with his cousin and another good childhood friend.  I have been feeling both anxiety and excitement for him.  They are going to many of the major national parks along the way camping for weeks at a time.  It really hasn't hit me yet that he is leaving and what he will be doing!  Everything happens for a reason and I know that this experience will be with him for the rest of his life.

Resting Gardener

This was one of those paintings that I struggled with and kept making changes.  I almost gave up on it this morning but I am glad I stuck with it.  It's another small piece but says a lot.  8x10 on stretched cotton and linen  for sale in my etsy shop.

Ode to Pablo

I decided to work with some more primary colors. I have had a long time love/ hate relationship with red. This painting is 11x14 and will be coming with me Saturday to the exhibit in New York.
Obviously, big fan of Picasso. This piece is somewhat of a self portrait. I enjoyed creating all the fine detail involved here.

Sailing Away

Well, this will probably be my last new painting until mid July. My son Sam will be home from his residential school for the next 10 days and it's all hands on deck. This new painting is appropriately titled. I love how it came together with all the details. It is 9x12 done on stretched cotton and linen. I will be announcing my July Giveaway either this afternoon or tomorrow. Please check back. I have also completed a large commission painting that I will post an image of on this blog as soon as my client receives it. She should be the first to see it. For sale in my Etsy shop.

Takes Me To Another Place.

When I take on a commission painting it is usually a different type of adventure. I suppose because it's really someone else's painting full of their ideas that I translate. For instance, using colors combinations I would otherwise have not chosen, and details and objects that are only personal to them. I love that. I always learn something new about myself as well. Many times I never meet my clients in person, so I have an image in my head of what they look like, what type of person they are while I am painting. Even choosing the right music to listen to while I am working can certainly affects things.
I am half way through such a commission right now. I better get back to work...................

Be Still Life

I have decided to begin a series of small test paintings. Some of them will be more abstract and whimsical than others. I am getting ready for my summer art shows, which take up a lot of my time, time I would rather be spending in my studio. Creating small fun works will alllow me to keep painting. This little Matisse-like piece is 8x10 done on stretched cotton. For sale in my Etsy shop.

Queen Of Hearts

Every time I see a deck of cards, it reminds me of being 10 years old, playing Slap Jack or Crazy Eights on a towel at Seabrook beach. Instead of paying attention to the cards I was dealt, I was busy looking at the intricate designs of the King, Jack and Queen. Some cards are quite beautiful.
This is my newest painting done with acrylic paints on stretched cotton. The Queen of hearts stands 8x10. Available for sale in my Etsy shop.
