Layer upon layer...

It's time for a new sketch over at Sunday Stamps, and this week Steph has a super versatile and fun sketch for us! You can keep it as simple as you want or as complex as you want - I decided for a lot of layers of Pistachio Pudding and Strawberry Slush :)

Yesterday was my sister-in-laws birthday and this card was made for her. She likes to make lace and does beautiful work - so I wanted this card to have a lot of lace elements. It's difficult to see, but there is a strip of Delicate Lace Tape behind the three squares. I used the Delicate Doilies set as the focal images and the Mosaic embossing folder from the new Catty :)

Put it in the mail!

Happy Friday!

I'm excited to be the hostess this week at The Friday Mashup, and I'm brining a colour challenge your way!

This is a fun technique we tried at a demonstrator meeting not too long ago, and I've been in love with it ever since - such a fun and clever way of adding a "layer" without adding a layer! 

Basically, you lay a strip of copy paper over your panel and stamp away, when you're done your stamping, remove the paper and draw in some lines with your markers. A faux layer.

Check out the challenge this week:

1. Create a card using the colors "Sahara Sand, Perfect Plum & Wisteria Wonder".
2. Create a card and "Mail or Deliver it to Someone Special".
3. Or Mash it Up and create a card with "Sahara Sand, Perfect Plum, Wisteria Wonder & Mail or Deliver it to someone special".

I'm putting my card in the mail as I head out the door to work this morning - it's going to a dear friend of mine who I think could use an extra smile right now!

Colourful circles at The Friday Mashup!

Good Friday morning, friends!

It's supposed to be a hot one here today, so we're planning on hitting the great out-of-doors early today and then chillin' inside. (Little) man has been asking to make a card for grandma for a couple days now, so I suspect that's what we'll get our hands busy doing :)

It's another fun challenge at The Friday Mashup this week, with Amy as our hostess! She's got us celebrating the upcoming Summer Olympics with a great colour challenge.

Dynamic Duos!

Hello

I'm so excited that I finally got the chance to sit down and play along with the Dynamic Duos challenge (#1!). And what a wicked way to start out: Pool Party and Lucky Limeade.

My sketch today comes from Craft Project Central's challenge, Creating Pretty Cards #11. If you haven't participated in their monthly challenge yet, be sure to do so!

This is one of the many cards we have stashed away to send to my mom. We try and send her one once a month, and generally I let my son make them for her, but sometimes I just have to take over ;)

Cardstock: Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla, Whisper White

Embellishments: Basic Pearls, Gold embossing powder, feather*, Hemp Twine

Tools: Heat Tool, sanding block

*This is not Stampin' Up! It's leftover from our wedding :) 

This was the sketch I was working with

I admit, I had to look up shabby chic. And by "look  up", I mean I did my ever-extensive 2-step research process; Wikipedia, then google images.

Wikipedia:

Shabby chic is a form of interior design where furniture and furnishings are either chosen for their appearance of age and signs of wear and tear or where new items are distressed to achieve the appearance of an antique. At the same time, a soft, opulent, yet cottage-style decor, often with a feminine feel is emphasized to differentiate it from genuine period decor

And for those more visual people out there (like me!), Google images returned the following glorious result. I don't know if it's the most accurate portrayal of shabby chic, but I loved it nonetheless.

All this 'research' into shabby chic is really making me want to redo our bedroom again. And the first item on the list of new things to get for it would be that chandelier :)

Flirtatious

It's early November, and in the cardmaking world, Christmas has been in full-swing for quite some time! Sometimes though, it's nice to take a break. Thank you to the Friday Mashup! team for encouraging us all to do that ;)

Our family is going to a birthday party today for 3 women. So, this challenge couldn't have come at a better time!

1. Make a project featuring "A Girly Theme"
2. Or make a project using "Your Favourite Technique"
3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a "Girly project using your favourite technique".

I mashed it up this week with a little Rock'n'Roll flirtation ;)

For this card, I wanted to make it as girly as possible as well as incorporating my favourite technique!
1. Flirtatious Suite: I know I just used the Delicate Doily set last week to make a Thank You card, but it just doesn't get any more 'girly' than that set and the coordinating paper - Flirtatious. If you're looking for a really fun feminine card, and you're not afraid of bright colours, this is the paper and stamp set for you ;)

2. Rock 'n' Roll: Once of my favourite techniques, even though it's an oldie, is the "Rock N Roll" tehcnique. And it's almost as if the Delicate Doily set was MADE for rockin'! First, stamp your image in a lighter coloured ink (in this case, I chose Melon Mambo), then, 'roll' your stamp in the darker coloured ink (I used Wisteria Wonder). The edges of your stamp will pick up the new colour, and the middle will retain the first. I used this technique on the doily, and then punched it out using the Doily Triple Layer punch.

The supplies I used for this card were:
Cardstock: Daffodil Delight, Melon Mambo, Whisper White
Paper: Flirtatious DSP
Stamps: Delicate Doilies, Delightful Dozen
Ink: Wisteria Wonder, Melon Mambo
Embellishments: Wisteria Wonder Ruffled Ribbon
Tools: Fancy Flower punch, Doily Triple Layer punch

Maybe I'll put the Delicate Doilies away for a bit... But it will be hard!

Sending Many Thanks

A "Thank You" card is one of my favourite kind of cards to make. Generally speaking, I find people to be very grateful (at least the ones in my life!), and a 'thank you' is always verbally exchanged for any gifts, gestures or help that's given - but the written thank you is less common. At least the non-electronic ones anyway. This, of course, is excluding wedding and shower thank you notes, which I still always  receive in the mail :)

This week's Friday Mashup was all about gratitude.
1. Make a project featuring "Heat Embossing"
2. Make a "Thank you" project
3. Mash it up and create a Thank You project using heat embossing

I chose to simply create a thank you project, sans heat embossing ;)

For this card, I wanted to make it fun and easy-going!
1. Make your own Designer Series Paper! I used the Delicate Doilies stamp set and three different colour inks to create a patterned paper that I could use with the colours I knew I wanted for the background and ribbon. Stampin' Up! does an excellent job of coordinating papers, inks and stamp sets, but sometimes it's fun to create your own combinations that fit your personal style!

2. Make it messy! Who says you need clean lines and crisp paper? ;) Rip, tear, moisten, and crumple a piece of DSP to add texture, visual interest, and depth to your card! It makes the card a little more playful and spontaneous!

The supplies I used for this card were:
Cardstock: Melon Mambo, Whisper White
Paper: More Mustard DSP
Stamps: Delicate Doilies, Petite Pairs
Ink: Island Indigo, Melon Mambo, More Mustard
Embellishments: Island Indigo Ruffled Ribbon
Tools: Postage Stamp punch, Sandy Speckles wheel
