About the Author:

Author Bio:
Rochelle grew up dreaming up stories. When she entered high school, she tucked away her creative side and jumped head-first into academics, work, and service projects. She graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Political Science and Communication when she was twenty years old. After years away from her writing, Rochelle picked up a pen and started fleshing out a character sketch that she outlined when she was twelve. That sketch was the start of the Ashes and Ice story. Rochelle lives in the DC metro area with her husband and daughter. By day she works as a behavioral therapist. By night, she is a dreamer and is busy tapping out new stories on her keyboard.

Interview Questions:

When did you first start writing?
I was seven when I started writing little books. From the ages of 11-13, I wanted to be a novelist. I wrote like crazy. When I went into High School at 13, I shifted to poetry and then when I got to college I stopped ALL creative writing. It wasn’t until I was pregnant with my daughter that I started writing again. I never realized how much I had missed it!

What books do you have published?
Ashes and Ice is my debut novel. After that, I plan to publish A&I books 2 and 3 as well as 2 stand-alones and a novella series. All YA.

What do you need when writing? Music, candy, silence, etc.
Silence. But I gear up with music and reading to get myself in a creative frame of mind.

How did you go about building your world and characters?
I need to find a more efficient way! I try to outline, but most of the time the most original ideas just come when I am free writing. Then I have to adjust my outline to fit with whatever I have written.

Do you have a favorite character? Why?
In my own work, I am in love with Connor. I feel like he is a real boy with real insecurities, but most of all he has a huge heart.

Are you working on any new projects?
Yes!! The stand-alone novel I will be working on next will be a YA Paranormal Romance inspired by the story of LA LLORONA. The story is a Mexican tale about a woman that snatches up children in the night and kills them. Yikes!

    Any advice for aspiring authors?
Don’t stop writing! It is easy to get discouraged or overwhelmed, but if you love writing, never ever stop! My biggest regret is that I stopped writing for so long. Find critique partners, beta readers, mentors and let them help you make your writing the best it can be. When you prepare to publish, make sure you build a community with your readers and other authors, design (or get designed) a good cover, find an editor who you trust and who will make your words shine.

What are you hoping fans will take away from your books?
Life is full of choices. What makes us who we are is based on the steps we choose to take.

Fun stuff:

Best Movie ever watched:
First movie that popped in my head: Braveheart. I mean, I can’t think of a single element of that movie I would change. Even the music gives me chills. I love sooo many movies though. There are some spectacular ones that I watch and re-watch (which drives my husband crazy).

Worst Movie ever watched:
OH MY GOSH. I don’t even remember the name of it. There was a movie my husband got from REDBOX. He has a tendency to just rent a movie based on the picture and from the picture he though the actors were Angelina Jolie and some other famous guy. I quickly realized those weren’t the MCs. THEN after about 45 minutes of laughable dialogue, ridiculous special effects, and the slowest moving plot ever, we decided it would be better to go to bed.

Favorite drink:
White Chocolate Peppermint Mocha. **sigh** I only indulge in that a few times a year though. My favorite alcoholic drink is a Toasted Almond or a Margarita.

Food you won’t eat:
Mystery meat (especially the jiggly kind)

This or That: (Which do you prefer)

Day or night?
Night! Night means I am home with my little family and in my pajamas. Very close to absolute perfection.

Coffee or Tea?
Coffee 100%! I started drinking coffee when I was 9 and living in Ecuador. I used to drink between 4-8 cups a day. Now I just drink one (maybe two if I want to spoil myself:) My sister, mother and I tend to make all of life’s major decisions over a cup of coffee. Bliss in a cup.

Ocean or Pool?
Hmmm, depends. Where I live the ocean water is so brown (sounds icky, right?!) that you can’t see 6 inches in front of you underwater so I am a pool lover close to home. Get me near the Gulf and I WOULD LIVE IN A TATTERED TENT to live near that gorgeous blue ocean water.

Beef or Chicken?
Chicken. Seriously, who can deny the awesomeness that is chicken soup, chicken soup, tinga, molé… oh my, now I am hungry.

Vampires , Werewolves or Zombies?
Vampires=sexiest, werewolves=badass, zombies=kill me before they eat me! If I had to choose one though, I would choose to be a werewolf.
