Mixed Media - Canvas

My first proper go with a Mixed Media Canvas
Also my first ever entry at http://thatcraftplaceblog.blogspot.co.uk/
anything goes mixed media challenge.

I used tissue as the base for the canvas of which I stamped then used gesso to adhere onto the canvas. then adding layer by layer of colours, stamped images again onto  tissue, adding this to the layers of texture using glittered texture paste as well as various die cuts.
I have being saving up purchased goodies from
http://www.thatcraftplace.co.uk/ for my sewing themed canvas.
I have used sewing embellishments, scissors and a cute watch face charm .. both of which I coloured with silver paint. The cotton twill ribbon, measuring tape and sewing notions themed fitted in perfectly also came from the shop. The glue I used is the marvellous All Round Medium which the shop stocks.
I have used fabric also within my canvas, on the manikins as well as making fabric flowers.
The canvas is bright and bold as it is for a dear friends birthday coming up later in the year. she is very bright and beautiful .. before becoming a publican she worked in the rag trade hence the theme.

Bah Humbug Challenge 35 - Sentiments or Text

I was very sorry to not have been able to make last weeks fab challenge of
Here Come the Girls .. In the 2 years of Bah Humbug running their fabulous weekly challenges I am very proud to have managed every single challenge so far. Anyway, I have managed this weeks challenge of incorporating either Sentiments or Text I have used 'crepe' paper for the first time within my cardmaking. I have seen it used within scrapbooking and so admired the effects that can be achieved. I only have a few odds and ends of crepe paper and in one colour 'Red' so that for me was very fortunate as red nicely finished off the card. The digi image is from the fabulous Meljen Designs
Here is my card

I threded the button onto the Crepe Paper. I have added a gem and colour to the plain white button.
I added some sparkle to the 'digi' image using a sakura pen and glamour dust. The holly berries have been made more '3D' using glossy accents

Birthday Gift Box card

I have made another of the gift box card. I made it for a very dear crafty friend. Ann made some gentle hints when I made one filled with Yummy chocolates I made it for a swap all the way over in Australia .. that she would very much like to receive such a card for her b'day. It was only sending it off for posting did I think maybe not a good idea to send chocolates due to them possibly melting and poor Ann receiving a horrid mess. Fingers cross it has all arrived safely and the chocs. survivied. I did make some errors in making the inner for the chocs. Next time I will have to rethink a little to get it right. I made a 'pulley' from a strip of card and a sweetie RS Image, so the sweets could easily be removed without damaging the gift box.

Bah Humbug Challenge 19 - Snowflakes

Another week another challenge .. yes, its that time over at Bah Humbug and CHNC where fab. challenges have been set. I have managed to combine two challenges with one card. Challenge 19 over at
Bah Humbug is 'Snowflakes' The DT designs, as ever, are just lovely and over at CHNC chllenge 20 is
'Don't get distressed about distressing' as is usual,  Hazel's work is stunning.

Here is my card. Not the best Pic. I know. I am just getting used to a new camera phone - not owned one before. I dropped my old phone last week- A very basic Nokia - the inner screen smashed! I have had for an eternity, it has served me well. I took the plunge on getting somthing a bit more up to date.
I took the pics. quickly late last night as time was going to be against me today.
I have used a 'Tatty Teddy' clear RS, of which is a freebie with the recent creativity magazine. I have coloured him with promarkers. I have added a likkle cuttlebug snowflake - as if Tatty Teddy is holding the snowflake. I have embellished the snowflake with tiny irridescent 3D type sequins
These have also been added to the corners and above the nestie circle. I have embossed, using the snowflake Cutlebug embossing folder, onto whitewash C'ordinations card and then distressed it by sanding the embossing, the edges are distressed using a pair of scissors and some fluid chalk.

Easter Cards

Have been for a family meal .. delicious it was too .. Here are a few Easter cards I made for family members. I am not at all good at making Easter cards but making the effort has made me feel quite good. The recipients seemed pleased to receive. You will note, two of them are very similar, the only difference is the ribbon, not the colour obviously. I am just thrilled the Cross die cuts I bought from ebay on Thurs. arrived safely on the door mat early this morning. I bought them from a lovely lady called Sheilagh, her shop has some lovely die cuts, different from the norm. Cannot believe how quicky they arrived, considering I ordered 2 beads from what seems to be a fairly new online bead store last Sat. and yet they have not arrived. Please excuse the Pic. I took it ever so quickly as we needed to be at the meal.

Bah Humbug Challenge 13 - Cards that Make you Giggle

Oh My .. the DT cards over at Bah Humbug have certainly made me giggle out loud.

I wasn't sure at 1st what I was going to do for this weeks challenge, as I am not someone who can really pull of 'humerous type cards' as I am never sure how to put together. But then I remembered a 'Christmas Simples' digi image I had that might make you giggle
beautifully created by Sandra Dry Very Sadly Sandra no longer produces Digi Images.

I cannot get the colouring right for this cute Meerkat. He is meant to be lighter in colour on the botton half of his face and darker around the eyes etc. More practice I think. I have made a computer generated sentiment

PaperArtsy RubberStamp Makes

I recently purchased a few PaperArtsy RS that were reduced but as yet had not managed to have a play with them. Here are a few 'Makes' I have created using one of the them. Two Birthday Cards and a Thinking of You' The ones I stamped onto glossy card appear a little 'blotchy' the stamps are probably more suited to Versafine Ink pad rather than the Impress one that I had used, I was curious how it would look on glossy paper hence the experimenting. I coloured in the image using Promarkers. Only probelm with this you can see the 'pen drag marks' but only when you look at the image side onwards so decided it would be ok to use the images.

Bah Humbug Challenge 11 - Metallic

This weeks wonderful challenge over at Bah Humbug  is 'Metallic' And boy the DT and Guest designers did not disappoint, truly stunning designs. I have made two cards this week, I was mooching around the wonderful challenge entries and was interested to read of one; where to dull down the metal 'Gesso' was used. I have made another Aperture card, this is the fab. thing about challenges, its gets you using techniques you havn't yet tried or not used in ages, I rarely made cards using apertures but last weeks challenge over at Bah Humbug has made me a little more confident in having a go more with them. Metal was used with the 'winter' embossing folder as well as the snowflake and miniture star die cuts. Once I had completed my card I had remembered I have quite a new Sizzix 'cut n' emboss' die of which I was also keen to use, so I decided I would make another card. The die cuts and embosses the metal beaitufully. I have added subtle colour using Adirondacks ink pads, cranberry and ginger and promarker pen was used to colour the deers nose and collar.
Both cards tie in beautifully with Hazel's challenge 12, 'Seasonal Silver' over at CHNC

I have made another Gift Card  I have been trying to make a few over the past few weeks but it just hasn't happened - so I knuckled down last night and am pleased to report I have now finished it. Maybe it will now spur me on to make a few others I am wanting to create.
I am taking part in a 'Chocolate and Card Swap'  - This Gift Card is destined for Austrailia -

My swap partner says she likes all chocolate .. so it was quite easy to fill the gift box with a varied selection of Chocs. in both Milk and Plain.

Bah Humbug Guest Designer - Week 7

I have been looking forward as well as feeling somewhat nervous to this weeks challenge over at Bah Humbug  the theme
CD cards - either made using a CD or a CD on them
I have been wracking my brain as to how I could achieve making a card using a CD - I have only used a CD once before on a birthday card and that was some 6 yrs back. I saw a beautiful card on
Hazel's Blog and I immediately thought it would be perfect for adding a CD onto the main base card. I contacted Hazel to ask her how she created her card, Hazel very kindly offered cut me some cards in different colourways on her Cricut for me to have a play with - Thank you so very much Hazel for all your help. I then came down with Flu, my brain so fuzzy and feeling pretty crook; ideas were thin on the ground. My initial thoughts of altering the CD using alcohol inks to create a 'background' did not work so it was onto plan B .. wait a minute there isn't a 'plan B' Anyway,  after a rummage in my RS sundries box I unearthed some UTEE - after 3 layers of UTEE the CD was looking very pretty, I very much liked the texture. I don't think I heated the UTEE enough as I could not get a RS image to show - so decided to leave it as it was, only swiping it over with a dye inkpad and some krylon pen to highlight the texture of the UTEE. My next stumbling block was how do I add 'elments' to the CD - I will admit I struggled and it was a while before any inspiration hit. I could only think of something '3D' maybe decoupage or similar - I am no good with anything like that so I ended using several elements from a couple of medallion RS I have. I am not 100% happy with the finished main element, it might of been better to print off some of the very pretty mandalas on the net or maybe added some glitter to the snowflakes. Just cannot put my finger on it what I don't like about it. I have made it possible so the CD can be removed from the base card for it to be used as a hanging decoration. On the underside of the CD it has also been given the UTEE treatment, I attached a very large flat backed pearl button over the 'spindle hole' I tried adding other elements, gems and such like but it just looked too crowded so I decided it was best left, told myself to stop faffing!

Thank you to the Bah Humbuggers for a fabulous challenge theme. I am very much looking forward to seeing what ideas challenge participants come up with using a CD.

Box Card

I was inspired to have a go with making a box card while browsing through the latest issue of 'Craft Stamper Mag.
Craft Stamper Feb. 2011 Issue

The article states, the designer, Debbie Dolphin,  was inspired by the 'tealight holder' Box Cards featured in 'blogland' I came across this beautiful blog recently featuring the tealight holder box card - I said then I would be making one and I now have .. just not added Tealights .. that is for next time round.
TeaLight Holder Box Card

The tutorial can be found here
TeaLight Box Card Tutorial

The box card featured in the Craft Stamper mag. is labeled as "A gift for him" I was needing to make something more feminine - The gift to go inside the box as featured in the Mag. article is Ferrero Rocher of which I had .. so I got cracking .. I am not really at all good at following instructions, even basic ones can flummux me at times! To say I found the tutorial hard to follow was indeed very true - I had thought I got everything right, the most important being the measurements for the box/scoring lines etc. I cannot have done so as I cannot get the Ferreo Rocher to fit in the box ..... the box is too small or the chocs too big - ever which way you look at it So I have had to rethink of which Chocs. to put in. I put in some of the chocs I used for choc. boxes. I placed the chocs in a cellophane bag and placed in the box that way. No matter that the Ferreo Rocher didn't fit the box .. I so, so enjoyed making this box card, Has taken me a couple of nights to complete. I am most definately going to be making some more - fingers crossed I can learn from my mistakes 1st time round and get the Ferrero Rocher to fit the box

This is my finished box card.
