A Quick Look Is Plenty

I'm not entire sure what the guy owning the truck had in mind, but I'm pretty sure that misspelling "ingestion" wasn't it. Still, with all the aggravation of driving in Cairo traffic, it gave me the giggles and I was delighted to catch it.

The Free Market Is Thriving

A Cairo blogger posted this picture of a man who was driving his car around with this sign posted on both sides of it. The sign apparently says:

Hashish "Afghan- Dutch" available
Salah Imbabay
01099649952

There are pretty strict laws on the books against the sale of hashish, marijuana and other drugs, but the police force has been pretty slack lately. Still..... wonder if anyone called him.

Buyer Beware

Translations can be a bit sketchy here. I'm not sure that I'd want to buy jeans here.

You Tell Me

The joy of improbable signs. Perhaps it's ok to set a fire but not to feed one?

My Favourite Line

I know that the intentions of Carrefour are good, but their sign makers have this odd way of making puzzling signs. Every time I see this one I want to go to the line but I'm not quite sure why. I find shopping one of the most disabling activities on the planet.

Ped Xing

I shot this through the front window of my jeep (I wasn't driving!) because I simply couldn't believe the sign. But it is a pretty good representation of the best ways to cross the road in Cairo/Giza.

Excuse Me. Come Again?

Some cattle egrets decorate the top of a sign saying "Shubramant, the door to the date". Right. Clear as mud. Probably they meant "the door to the past" as this village is on the road to Abu Sir, Sakkara and Dahshur, but we had fun figuring out wether maybe the date was yesterday, tomorrow, or next Wednesday.

Cairo Abstract

A random pink chair, wrought iron railing, red sign in Arabic and the reflections in the car window were caught by the Elf. I'm not even quite sure where.

Don't We All Wish...

Carrefour is a useful store carrying, as it does, just about everything in the world except for the one small item that you are looking for. But the thing that I like the most about it is the guy who makes up the signs for special sales. He probably has no idea how entertaining he is.

I'll take a 25 yr old body weighing roughly 140 lbs, about 5'8", no bangs or bruises, please.

We Kan Increse Yor Mony

Just driving along a street in New Maadi and I looked up and almost died laughing. We get some good typos in signs, but this is a doozy. I'm sure that they didn't realise that louts and lotus are not at all the same.
