What We Did...Austin Edition

Hey Y'all!
So I'm just back from vacation, I'm hoping you didn't notice I was away.

We had this trip pending for quite a while.
First we were set on going, then the budget told us we really shouldn't, then the tax return came and we were able to get everything lined up!
What a blessing to be there for Bud to commission his best friend JF!
Our first day in town we were able to stop by my old workplace and visit with some co-workers.
DJ, Addy & I, ML, & HD
I miss these people, but I don't miss work.
After that I got to cash in on my Mother's Day present.
There is a wonderful mani/pedi place in Austin called Embellish.
If you ever plan to be in Austin, schedule an appointment here, you won't regret it and neither will your checkbook.
What is better than pretty toes?

Later that night we went to watch a kickball game.
Our friends that we were staying with our on a kickball team and they needed an extra player so Bud jumped right on in.
Bitsy seems more interested in her toys than in the kickball game.
The other team forfeited, but we made the best of it and enjoyed a wonderful evening with our love hosts Mr. & Mrs. L.

Friday morning was commissioning day.
I can't believe it's be a year since Bud commissioned!
He got up there and commissioned both is best friend JF...
...as well as another friend/cadet JH!
It such a special honor to commission someone.
At least in my eyes.
Afterwards was the first salute ceremony outside.
We opted to find a moment to get a family photo!
When in Austin you should visit the Capital.
It's quite impressive and a cool break if you aren't used to the heat.
For dinner that night we went to Rudy's (another must go place when visiting TX).
We were fortunate enough to have dinner with WB & JB and their little OB!  He is about a year older than Bitsy.
WB commissioned a year before Bud and is about to get stationed in Japan!

Saturday morning was one of my favorite days.
Bitsy met her Godparents for the first time.
 She instantly took to TV.
And all throughout brunch she smiled and played....
 Peek....
 ....a-boo!!!
If you don't remember TV & KV...we were in their wedding last summer.
ALL of us!
Bud was a groomsman, I was a bridesmaid, and Bitsy was still cooking.
They have showered our daughter with so many gifts and I know they love her.
We know that if anything should happen to us they will always be in her life and they will be able to teach her all about who we were and what we believed.
After brunch we took a stroll around town lake.
One of my favorite places to hang out outdoors.
There were a few pit stops for snacks and photo ops.

Austin will always be where Bud & I consider home.
I look forward to the day when we are able to retire back here.
In the meantime we will just have to soak up as much of it as we can when we are able to get back and visit!
For dinner that night we met up with some other family friends.
AB, MB, and their boys MB & MB.
AB lived with Bud when he was younger and he cared for Bud and his brothers like a 'manny'.
We ate at Phil's Icehouse and the best part is that right next door is Amy's Ice-Cream.
If you've had cold-stone this is kinda like that, but better!
The flavors of ice cream are so unique and special that sometimes if you don't get one it may not be there the next time.
I went with the oatmeal raisin cookie this time, while Bud got the Shiner Beer flavor.
Sunday we were able to visit our old Church...Gateway Community Church.
It was such a refreshing treat.
There isn't anything quite like it where we are now, at least not worship music style wise.
But when you have a church in the 'Live Music Capital' you kinda get accustomed to AWESOME musicians!
For lunch we hit up Thundercloud Subs (a much tastier sub than your average subway sub).
Avacado is a must when I get a turkey sub here!
My friend DP & her hubby drove down to have lunch with us.
It was her first time meeting Bitsy too.
Bitsy was also in their wedding last summer....crazy how fast everything changes in a year!
For dinner that night we met up with quite a few friends from church and another co-worker friend of mine from long before I worked for the state.
I think something was in the water though, because so many of our friends are now having babies!
Too bad we moved away or else Bitsy would have more friends.
RR & ER are expecting their little one on 9/27.
That's Bitsy's Birthday.
They are also having a baby girl and we are so excited for them.
WA & SP are such sweet people!
They are getting married in October and we are super duper excited for them!
Above is GF & my old co-worker friend JF.
Long story short I was supposed to text her to tell her when we were having dinner at Rudy's on Friday night and I kinda spaced out and forgot!
Then Bud saw on Facebook that she had messaged him and we felt so horrible!
Fortunately we were able to reschedule for dinner at Matt's El Rancho (another Austin TEX-MEX must if visiting...I recommend the Avacado Chicken Enchiladas with the suiza sauce)!
JF is such an awesome friend and I look up to her so much...not literally ;)
Lastly, but not least PR & RR!
Their little blessing is due in November and they aren't going to find out the gender until then!
I can't imagine not knowing haha!

As you can see we filled much of our visit with friends and quite frankly I can't imagine it any other way.
Well except for Monday night.
Monday night Bitsy stayed with her first babysitter.
My old boss took her for the 'night' so that Bud & I could slip away to the Alamo Drafthouse  to see the Avengers!
The great thing about the Drafthouse is that there is a table and you order your food and drinks during the movie.
You look at the menu, pick what you like, write it on a sheet of paper and then slip it into the clip in front of your table.  The wait staff than sneaks around picking up and dropping off orders throughout the movie.
It's a real treat and the best way to watch a movie.
Plus combining dinner and a movie means I didn't have to be away from Bitsy for to too long.
I was a little anxious since this was her first real sitter.
I must say though we arrived back to ML place to find our baby girl passed out and peaceful.
We loaded her up and headed back to GL & JL's house.
Tuesday morning we were pack out bags and starting our trip home.
We had a wonderful time on our vacation.
If you ever have plans to visit the Austin area and are curious of what things are fun to do, please don't hesitate to shoot me an email!

Where is your favorite non-exotic vacation spot?
Do you have any secrets to cost effective vacationing?

Well I'm off to unpack, do the laundry, and attempt to get Bitsy back on a schedule of sorts.
I hope you have a Blessed Wednesday!

Between Houses

Okay so I'm going to warn you now that this post is going to be heavy in pictures!
This is to catch everyone up on where we spent our Christmas!
Mike, Mama Dear, & Bud (this is his youngest brother & mom)!
We spent a little time between Kansas City & Wamego where my Mom lives.
Mama Dear & My Mother
Being silly!
Here Mike is about to open his Christmas gift from us.
Do you see the attached ornaments I made?
Here are just a few of them.  I made 32 all together!
Want to know how to make these?  I used this tutorial from Little Bit Funky's 20 Minute Crafter!  My only difference was I used iron on transfers for my pictures instead of vinyl pockets.

You'd think they'd tear that paper a little faster...
Our 1st Base Assignment is about to be revealed!
Reading the Poem
POPE AFB, NORTH CAROLINA!
It snowed on Christmas Eve Day!
I'm freezing!
Mother & Son!
I love this picture!
We also spent a few nights at My Mom's & met her dogs
Strudel
Schnitzel
Mother & Daughter
We spent a few nights at my Father-in-Laws and went to his church:
Bud, Myself, Nana Kim, & Papa Bear
Pastor Papa Bear's Church
Ogden Bible Church
We also got to visit our old Church and see a lot of friendly faces!
Pastor Pat, Barb, Myself & Bud
We Love Them!
We even fit in a few friends while we were in town.
Bud, Myself, J Braat, & Seth
Finally it was back to the airport.  My youngest B.I.L. Mike drove us.  Can I just say how weird it is that he was 8 when I first started dating Bud & now he's 18 and dropping us off at the airport?
Definitely Brothers!
Being handsome runs in the family!
All in all it was a very Merry Christmas!  We saw everyone!  Everyone was happy!
And now everyone knows where we are moving and it no longer has to be a secret!
I hope you all had a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a Blessed Thursday!

B&B: Part II

We're home.
After a delicious 3 day weekend we have finally returned to our humble abode.
I can not express in words how awesome this last weekend was, nor can I express how a 3 day weekend left me feeling like I had just taken an entire week off from the world.
This morning for breakfast they brought us:
Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, & French Toast Sticks w/ Pecans
We checked out a little early and putzed around town for a bit trying to find a few items so we could go do a rubbing of Herman's gravestone.
Der Stadt Friedhof is the cemetery where Herman & Elizabeth are buried
1/2 way through our grave rubbing it's started to sprinkle and then as we finished it started to pour.  WE GOT IT THOUGH!  Unfortunately, we weren't able to get Elizabeth's gravestone.  We found out today that Herman was probably married 3 times.  Elizabeth was his first wife and it's believed she passed away a few years after they married (how sad).  The worst part is that on the gravestone it doesn't even have her name.  It just says Frau Herman Hitzfeld and her dates.  Frau in German is similar to Mrs. in English.
Before hitting the road we decided to stop by a recommended restaurant at The Hanger Hotel called the Airport Diner.
I LOVE how this picture turned out.  It looks like a cartoon drawing!  I didn't edit it at all.  I simple used a different setting on my camera.
This was taken on my 55mm w/ Tv setting shutter speed 1/25 ISO 1600.  No flash.
Waiting for his sandwich
Enjoying a cup of hot tea on a rainy day!
On our way out of town we decided to stop by Bud's Great-great-great grandparents tomb William & Emelie.  We found the cemetery and the gravesite.  The neat part was that their pictures were on the gravestone!  Of course while we were there it went from drizzle to pouring again, but we used Bud's shirt to cover the camera while we took a few snapshots:

The rain continued to come and go during our 1.5 hour drive home.  Again I can't express how awesome our weekend was.
Upon returning home it was back to business as usual.  I unpacked in about 10 minutes and while Bud watched the Texans vs. Redskins I napped.  I woke up just in time to watch the last few minutes of the game and watch it go into overtime.  It was an intense game!
Bud headed out to squeeze in a little homework he had neglected over our weekend and I started a load of laundry.  It's time to get ready for the week and all I can say is that I have the BEST husband in the world.  He spoils me and loves me and as we get closer to his graduation/commissioning/first duty station I literally feel us pulling together more and I feel my heart swelling with joy every time I look at him.  He makes me so proud!
Originally, I wasn't going to blog while we were at the B&B, but on our way out the door Bud decided to bring his laptop.  One of his reasons was that he knew I could use it to update my blog, he said he knew I liked doing it and thus he liked that I liked it.  I love that man!
I hope everyone has a blessed Sunday night.
