4 Month Stats

Alexander is now 4 months old!!
Weight 13lbs. 3 oz.  38 percentile
Height 25.5 inches 78 percentile

He had an ear infection so he's on an antibiotic.  I just got the prescription filled on Monday.  On Tuesday morning, I went to give him some and got distracted by somebody else.  When I came back to the medicine, I thought, "well, I need to shake it up".  What I forgot is that I had already loosened the lid and pink medicine flew across the kitchen.  So I had to call the doctor's office back to get another prescription.  Both the nurse and the pharmacist laughed at my misfortune.

Mabel and I have a great thing going right now.  Alex loves to be held and she loves to hold Alex.  Win, win, win situation.

We have been on fire with FHE this year.  Last week we had a lesson on Captain Moroni and we played him up to be a scripture super hero.  The next day while driving in the car, Sam announced that for his birthday, he wanted a Captain Moroni cake.  The kids talked about Captain Moroni all last week.  So this week, we made the whole armor of God.  They fell in love with this as well.  I'm trying to find some army men so next week we can talk about the 2000 stripling warriors.  It's interesting that we haven't gotten the kids war toys or encouraged them to play war games until we started studying the scriptures with them.  I guess for little kids, those are some the best parts of the scriptures!

For Cute

Last night after Alex's bath, the boys were taking an extra long time playing in the tub for their bath, so I snapped a few pictures of Alex while we waited.  My only regret is that next time, I'll pick a better background.

Yes, that is spit-up on his jammies that were on less than 5 minutes.

Alex started eating rice cereal on Tuesday.  He's been so ravenous and waking up a lot to eat, that we decided it was time.

A Bunch of Random

This post is mostly about random things because there is nothing really note worthy to post about, but if I put it all together, then you'll get a good idea of what we've been up to.  Nick gave me a new faucet for Christmas.  I guess if I can't get a new kitchen, at least I can get parts of new kitchen!!  I thought it was really cute that the boys had to help out, too.

What do you do with a two year old?  Build a bug/dinosaur parade with their toys!  It was a great way to spend an hour.

I also got a new smart phone for Christmas.  We downloaded some games for the kids and they absolutely love it.  They are even good about taking turns.

On Sunday evening, we had a very scary experience with Alex.  After nursing him, I noticed that he kept rubbing his eyes for a long, long time.  A few minutes later, a bunch of hives appeared around his eyes as well.  We have never had allergies around our house and don't own a stitch of benedryl, so I called my sister-in-law Erica who has a daughter with bad nut allergies to ask her if I could even give an infant benedryl.  She then called her brother who is a pharmacist to get the dosage.  By this time, Alex had hives around his mouth and I began to panic fearing that his esophagus would swell and he would stop breathing.  Nick left to get some benedryl as I told him, "if he has trouble breathing while you're gone, I'm calling 911".  Luckily while Nick was gone, Alex stopped rubbing he eyes and seemed a little better, so I snapped a picture.
When Erica called back with the dosing instructions, she asked if we had eaten any peanut butter, because even peanuts touching an infant's skin could cause hives.  In fact for dinner we had peanut butter on celery sticks and a few pistachios.  When I went to pick him up from a nap, I hadn't washed my hands and started wiping his tears with my fingers.  We gave him the benedryl and within 20 minutes he was much, much better.  That night, I took another picture while he was sleeping and the hives went away, but his right eye was still a little red.
Supposedly, nuts can do this to infants even if they aren't allergic to nuts, but I am going to be really careful introducing new food into his diet.
