KDCF WORK PARTY @ 11 JANUARY 2009, 3RD SESSION

MESSAGE FROM PENGERUSI PENGAKAP DAERAH BUKIT BINTANG, PUAN RAJA TEH MAIMUNAH

Dear Commissioners, leaders and scouts,

Once again on behalf of the Friends of Kota Damansara & TRAKS, I thank you for your continuous support. As mentioned we believe we should be able to complete the 1st circuit at the next session scheduled in February, if we can get the same number of scouts as we did today. The following session in March should be dedicated to refining earthworks.

As discussed, let's target to set up the first camp for our scouts during the June school holidays. We will work with Friends of Kota Damansara on this. That would give us sufficient time to get the trail done up (and perhaps even officiated), get the grass mowed and camp site cleared and obtain approval from the neighbouring school for use of the facilities (as well as approvals on our side for the scouts).

Some photos of today's trails are posted. Well done!

See you in February. Meanwhile, Kong Hee Fatt Choy to all!!--

Best regards

KDCF Work Part 11 January 2009 by our District Pengerusi , Puan Raja Teh

Message from Puan Raja Teh (Pengerusi, Majlis Pengakap Daerah Bukit Bintang)

A very Happy New Year to all ! Hope everyone had a nice one over Christmas and this weekend. Its time again to start to ramp up for the next Trail Day at KDCF. The second session was supported by a much smaller group. Even with the slightly damped conditions, the troops did quite a bit of work and manage to forward several hundred meters. All in all the second session was a great success.

Now for the third session, we again call for volunteers to join us in building the KDCF trail. Please pen the date in your calendar and see you at the work party.

Here are the details

TRAKS Special Work Party

Sunday January 11th 0800 to 1200
Kota Damansara Community Forest

We once again call upon BB scouts help build this potentially great trail. We will need help especially from those who have done trail work before. If you are coming please drop me an email. We need to estimate the numbers so we can plan better for task assignment and also catering for snacks and refreshments.

Most of what we will be doing will involve earthwork so the tool of choice will be a proper changkul. Saws, rakes and shovels may also come in handy as a second tool. Sturdy shoes are recommended - no flip flops please. And of course mozzie repellent and enough water and trail snacks to get you through a four hour work session.

Raja Teh

Others begin the New Year with big celebration , party, dancing , eating, fireworks etc. The Bukit Bintang Scouts have choosen the KDCF WORK PARTY to welcome the New Year, we would like to be different and we would also like to keep ourselves with good health and continuing serving the community. Brother & Sister scouts, lets get our hand dirty on 11 January at 8.00-1200pm to continue our commitment to build the trail for the KDCF. Please call or e mail DC Kenneth Soh at 0123290663 or bukitbintangscout@gmail.com

Happy New Year and Happy Scouting!

Kota Damansara Community Forest Project 2 November 2008 - The Malay Mail 3 November 2008

Kota Damansara Community Forest Project 2 November 2008

It was our first experience helping Traks and the Kota Damansara Community Forest ("KDCF")to build trails for the Kota damansara Forest. The group who made up of Volunteers from KDCF, Traks and also Scouts from Bukit Bintang, totaling about 50 peoples had done about 200m of good trail work on 2nd November 2008 from 0800 to 1200. . The target is to construct a 2 km circuit to be built over 6 months through volunteer labour. Our Chairman , Puan Raja Teh will be fixing a date in December soon and we hope all the Scouts will continue to participate with this project.

We hope to see our Scouts and all the dedicated leaders at the coming sessions (once a month) where we can proudly proclaim having being part of the team to have built the first ever trail in KDCF. As repeatedly mentioned by Raja Teh, it is her wish that with greater use of the forest we will be able to defend the forest from being "developed".

We also hope via the works from the project, our Scouts will be able to acquire the knowledge in trail building and sustainable use of the forest. It is only with getting their hands dirty can they appreciate the efforts by others in providing access to forests for the enjoyment of many and in turn they will strive to preserve and maintain the forest for continuous use.
Very often, we go camping, hiking and also doing many ourdoor activities without realising who are the people who had created all these facilities for us. It is vital that we will participate to help building facilities for the use of many. It is also important to let our Scouts to understand how to preserve and also looking after our environment. As part of of our training, we " learning by doing".
More info will be published about the coming trail building session, please let us know if you are keen to be involved. This project will take us another 6 months to complete. HAPPY SCOUTING!

Volunteers required for Kota Damansara Community Forest to build a Trail on 2 November 2008

The Trail Association of Kuala Lumpur & Selangor better known as TRAKS (http://www.traks.org.my/) who are helping the Friends of Kota Damansara Community Forest ("KDCF") http://kd.communityforest.net/ in creating a trail network there.

They are seeking for volunteers and our district have raised our hands on behalf of our Kelana boys. The tentative date for the trail building is Sunday November 2nd, 0800 to 1200 hours. Please let me know if you can participate with this special project.

This is an opportunity for the scouts to learn about sustainable community forest use and more importantly, they will be part of the "making" of KDCF which I hope in turn will help them appreciate the need to care and maintain our forest when they become "users" of the forest. It is easy to camp on established site but not so in creating one. So this way they will learn about how much others put in for the rest of us to enjoy nature and thus for them to use the forest wisely and leave as they had found them.
We are looking for about 10 - 20 volunteers for this project, please contact me directly if you are keen.
