once there was a snowman

the whole reason I decided to make a post yesterday was because I actually took Emma outside to play in the snow. For the first time EVER in her whole three years. I figured it was blog-worthy, and then I forgot to include the photos in the post. So here they are. We had fun, it was pretty warm and the snow was good for building, but Emma hardly knew what to do, and I wasn't sure myself since I haven't played in the snow in at least 15 years! She loved the chair that we made out of snow. She's been asking all morning to go sit in her chair and to go play with her snowman.

it's been awhile...

I have pretty much decided that I quit blogging...but i did downloaded some cute photos of the kids so I thought I might as well post them. (for the few people who read my blog) So this may or may not be my last post, at least for another 4 months.

Since my last post, Jack has obviously started doing alot more. He is almost 7 months now. He started crawling and sitting up at 5 1/2 months, which I thought was way too early and now he is trying really hard to pull himself up on everything and is always pushing himself up to his hands and feet. He also started sleeping through the night in his crib (he always has slept in my bed) at about 6 months. He doesn't do it every single night, but most nights he does pretty good. He did it on his own which was really nice. I just put him in his crib one night, and he slept til morning. He's a pretty good baby, I can't complain, and I just think he is SO cute!

Emma had her third birthday in November. She had a little Princess party with her friends and afew cousins and got way too many presents, but had lots of fun. I also had fun throwing her first 'friends' party.

We finally took Emma's soothers away in January (embarassing that she was so old, I know.) and since then she has quit napping. I am so sad about this, and I have been tempted more than once to give her soother back. (but I've resisted.) She really still needs a nap, she is exhausted by suppertime so then we have to keep her happy for two more hours while she is super hyper or cranky. Or sometimes she just crashes where she is.

I have tried to make her have "quiet time" in her room for an hour in the afternoon, but it's not working great. I'm worried about summer, when I won't get a break while she's at preschool twice a week!
Auntie Dani took Emma to Build a Bear and Emma had to pay all of her soothers to get her bear. (well, she actually chose a moose) It actually went better than I had expected, aside from not napping anymore.

She is still obsessed with princess dresses, but also sports her bathing suit at least once a day and probably 5-10 other various outfits throughout the day, which makes for a lot of folding or hanging clothes at the end of the day. It seems like most girls her age go through that though.
She STILL cries every time I drop her off at school or take her to primary, but she always says how much fun she has, so I think she just wants to make sure I still feel guilty about leaving her! (which I do, for about 2 seconds, then I get over it.) So, as much as she is driving me crazy these days, I have to admit that she is pretty entertaining, and keeps things interesting!

Here's our most recent 'self taken' family photo from a recent trip to the zoo.

Happy Halloween!

I have never loved Halloween, I hate dressing up myself, but I have loved dressing up my kids. It's so much fun! I though Jack was the cutest thing ever!

Making Cookies

Lauren and Rachel came over to help us decorate Halloween cookies this week. I should have made the cookies first so they were all ready for Lauren and Emma to decorate, but they had fun helping, it just made a really big mess!

Sick Day

Jack was so good, he slept in the swing most of the day!

Finally.... some sleep!

Yesterday Emma had croup again.  This is the fifth time she has had it since June, so I am really sick of it!  The poor girl usually is fine when she goes to bed, and then wakes up in the night barely able to breathe.  It is so sad.  Anyway...this time I set up a tent, put the humidifier and a dvd player in it and Emma hung out in there for most of the day.  When she first woke up in the middle of the night she was hysterical, which makes her breathing even worse.  I tried to get her to eat a popsicle or ice cream or frozen orange juice (cold things can help make the breathing better) but she was too upset to have anything.  So I took her for a drive which sometimes calms her down, and the cold air is good for her too.  We went to a Mac's and got a slurpee, which she also wasn't too interested in.  She's only had a slurpee once before, this past summer with her cousins, the Boston Kelly's.  So I reminded her of that, and told her that Maren, Dallin, Spencer and Lauren all liked slurpees and that she should try it.  That convinced her.  I also helped her say a prayer asking to help calm her down and get feeling better.   In the morning when she was feeling a bit better, the first thing she said was "Mom, can you get up and get me ice cream?" and then " Where is Jesus?  He made me feel better."  It was too cute.  She also really enjoyed her "sippee" (that's what she thought the slurpee was called.)
