SUBTLE SPARKLE AND SHINE

I'm no fashionista , but I do happen to have a black sequined skirt, which I love but have never worn outside the house.  I know, I really must work on my fashion confidence, but when it comes to sequins and shiny fabrics I feel it's best to proceed with caution.  I love the idea of a sparkly pocketbook, belt or hairband, and who doesn't love sparkly jewelry, right?  Yet, a little goes a long way.  Here are a few examples of subtle sparkle.....

REFLECTION ON THANKFULLNESS

Like many Americans, Braxton and I are off to celebrate the long holiday weekend, and by "off" I mean we are planning to cuddle on the sofa, tea mugs in hand, fire blazing, with a huge pile of art and design books within reach....because that's how we roll.

Whatever and however you celebrate this season....we wish you all the joy that your heart can hold, and most of all we are so thankful for all of you.

Many blessings.
Braxton and Yancey

btw:   I couldn't leave you without a post for tomorrow...so be sure to check back in.

SHINY GLAMOUR

Glamour:  a magic spell.  an exciting and often illusory and romantic attractiveness.
Glamour is not a word I throw around very often.  Except for once a month when the magazine arrives in the mail, it's not even a word I think about much.  However, glamour is the first word that popped into my head when doing research for this post.
Is it just me, or is there something inherently glamours about shine?

As Braxton says... Shine On... dear people.

DECORATE WITH MIRRORS!

"I love mirrors.  They let one pass through the surface of things"  Claude Chabrol
It's no secret, I've said it a kazillion times, Braxton and I live in a small house, and as small house dwellers we have come to know well the design miracle of mirrors, mirrors and yet more mirrors.  Reflection can illuminate dark corners and create the illusion of space.
Mirrors are a green alternative to electric lighting, because nothing throws light around like a well placed mirror.
I've placed mirrors opposite windows and beside windows and in rooms with no window at all.....and every one allows the eye to see beyond the barrier of the wall thus creating space where there is none.
I love mirrors!
A mirrored chandelier in a hotel lobby.....mirror or work of art?

Creating paneling with mirrors.

Antique(d) mirrors reflect a ghostly image...which seems mysterious and luxurious to me.

Love the modern effect here.
"I used to live in a room full of mirrors, all I could see was me.  I take my spirit and I crash my mirrors, now the whole worlds is here for me to see"  Jimi Hendrix
Brilliant!  A mirrored sculpture as a headboard.

No surprise here...Christian Aguilera mirrors her ceilings!

A mirrored sculpture which hangs from the ceiling.  Imagine how much light this would throw around.

Cool tiger claw effect.

The perfect use of a mirror in a small space (providing there are no small children about).  Propped up against the wall this mirror creates a faux doorway.

I love how this collection of mirrors work together to created something way more interesting than a single large mirror.

This headboard was made with boxes of inexpensive mirrored tiles purchased at Ikea.

Mirrored lit spheres seen at the furniture market in Milan.

I made this picture extra large so you could see that this very small kitchen, featured in House Beautiful, has a mirrored back splash.....something I dream about doing in my own home.

The illusion of a room beyond the cook top is created with mirrors.
I have become obsessed with the idea of a sunburst mirror over the sofa in my living room.  These are a few of my favorites.  Enjoy!

"The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows"  Sydney J. Harris
An entire collection of sunburst mirrors....heaven.

This one has great diy potential.

Easily my favorite.  Anyone know where I can get one of these beauties?

Have a beautiful day.

THINGS THAT SPARKLE

I admit I'm a bit of a magpie.  Living in a small house for many years I've come to appreciate the many qualities of shiny surfaces, especially mirrors. I paint every surface with high gloss paint, even walls, I love sparkly jewelry, shiny lip gloss, all things sequined, sparkly wine, and shiny happy people.
Lets talk, this week, about......decorating with mirrored furniture.......
....the mesmerizing quality of mirrored art........
Sky Mirror by Anish Kapoor in Manhattan
 .......sparkly fashion........
....even shiny nails......let's have some good sparkly fun!

I really don't know where my magpie tendencies come from....I'm pretty sure no one else in my family would have much of an appreciation for this room,  but I'm ready to move in....today.

Mirrored labyrinth by Jeppe Hein

Yes, you've seen this before, but is any room more beautiful than Miles Redd's bathroom?

Are you a fellow magpie?  Do you decorated with mirrors, wear sequins, gravitate toward all things sparkly?  Let's talk.

Have a sparkly day.
