BUILDING A SHIPPING PALLET DEER HUNTING BLIND –PART 1 and PART 2

Part 1
Deer hunting season starts the first weekend in November up in my neck of the woods: the northern part of Minnesota.  Hopefully, the wolves haven't eaten all the fawns and adult deer, yet.   I am a fan of cheap deer blinds and building plenty of them to keep hunting comfortable, and I am impressed with the youtube video I posted above.  The video's author states the blind was only about $50, but I have a bunch of leftover rolled rubber roofing my father in law salvaged, so I am going to be able to build this for much less.  Check out the video if you are interested in making your own pallet deer blind for the upcoming season.  This blind will work well in many different types of climates, and the hunters who sit in their stands the longest usually end up with the biggest bucks.  Good luck hunting and stay safe out there during the upcoming season.

Pallet Deer Blind Pictures

PALLET DEER BLIND

Pallets are a great source and can be found for free in Brainerd, Minnesota and other cities by searching craigslist or asking businesses.
This ingenious bow hunter from Texas decided to make a low cost deer blind to put on a lease so his whole family could enjoy hunting in a comfortable, well built, and practically free blind. The builder put alot of sweat equity into the build, and it turned out really well.
The swivel office chair is a nice comfortable touch for this stand. I have learned over the years of hunting deer in Minnesota that most big bucks are shot by people who spend the whole day in the stand or blind, because you never know when the big Leroy twelve pointer is going to come trotting by.

Pallet Hunting Blinds

Pallets are often found for free on sites like craigslist, and I like to build deer blinds and ice fishing shacks from pallets.  Here are some pictures of pallet builds:

Nice Deerstands! Pics. and instructions for building a nice deer stand for hunting this fall!

Firewood:   I cut all that slabwood, and asked the park ranger if I could burn the firewood, due to all the restrictions in MN.  I procured the slip that certified the firewood, got it checked by the ranger, and spent last night around a campfire, cleaning up over 40 agates I found on my evening walk.  I will  post pictures today! With a little adapting, staying in a small, organized space can be comforting, rather than confining.

Deer stands can be made from many free or found materials.  My latest stand builds have been made with free wood shipping pallets.  I find them on craigslist, and have a few local spots I can frequently get them for free.

Pallet Deer Blind

Building a pallet blind is a great way to use leftover shipping pallets.  Last year, my father and I used some pallets to build enclosures on the ground and would hold up the pallets using step-in fencing posts. We had small heaters in each one and used some tarps to seal them from the cold Minnesota wind. They are great for using on the ground to make wind breaks at the top of a hill, or for constructing nicer hunting shacks like the ones pictured below:

Great idea for making a low cost deer blind

Using pallets to create deer blinds is a great way to reuse an object often discarded.  Pallet deer blinds can be created using plastic tarps or rubber sheeting for the roofs or any other place you want to protect from the wind.  During deer hunting season in northern Minnesota, our weather fluctuates a great deal.  Deer hunting always takes place during the first weekend of November, and some years it is warm enough to sit in the sunshine without a heater.  But most years, it is very cold in this part of Minnesota, and having a warm blind to sit in and protect you from the environment can be the difference between getting a deer, or missing out on one because of the harsh weather.
