LEGO Power Miners #8188, #8189, #8190 Review

Recently there is not much news of new sets to update and I started to be busy again. Well, this post is about Power Miners. Although these (new) Power Miners sets has been release for quite some times now but I think this time round they really done a good job. Bricks Review posted two reviews of them recently and one for quite some times ago.

#8190 Claw Catcher Review

I hope this will help those that are looking for reviews on the Power Miners set.

I do think the some third wave set looks much cooler than the first and second wave of Power Miners, especially the Fire Blaster and Claw Catcher. Also the new outfit for the minifigs and new magma monster are just again. . .cool~

The name below the pictures are link to the review.

LEGO Power Miners 2010 Box Art

We have seen the box art of the mech and the fire blaster. Now let us see the bigger set, which is the base and some sort of truck. Below are the (blurry) image of the box art:

There will be two magma monster from the base, one big and one small. Hopefully the base won't cost us much as it seems to be build from a few pieces.

LEGO Power Miners 2010 Lava Monsters

While browsing Brickshelf this morning, I came across with a page from Power Miners 2010 instruction book. It seems like there is a number of new lava monster (I guess this is the name for the new rock monster) with the release of the set. Below are the picture extracted from Brickshelf:

Those new monster actually looks better than the current one except for their big brother on the right, seems hard to see the face. As for the picture of completed #8188, please visit thecrazyone's Brickshelf gallery.

LEGO Power Miners #8189 Magma Mech

Here's another picture of 2010 LEGO Power Miners. We gonna have a new kind of monster too from Power Miners theme. Still it is something collectibles. Well, I just can't have enough of these small little monster. It is just good.

This set is up in Amazon site too at $19.99. Just drop by there to have a better look at the picture since there is a zoom in function.

One other rare thing is that the blue translucent water piece. I like the way they do cockpit, especially the that bar that hold the minifigs but again, it was a mech with two minifigs in it.

LEGO Power Miners #8709 Underground Mining Station Available at Toys"R"Us

For Malaysian LEGO Power Miners fans, #8709 Underground Mining Station is now available at Toys"R"Us and it seems to be a limited edition set. So again, if you want to get a set for yourself, you have to visit Toys"R"Us near you again.

It seems a little fast for the set to arrive here, even the Space Police #5980 Squidman Pitstop.
Regarding the price, it is RM350 if I'm not mistaken.

LEGO Power Miners #8188 Fire Blaster

Next year Power Miners will have a new look which seems very appealing to me. Looks like we got new kind of monster and also new outfit for Power Miners team.

I definitely have to get a copy at least, if there is only one kind of new monster. =P Also we can see that LEGO is bringing back Ice Planet visor, maybe with a little changes like there is no antennae or it is block by the minifigs.

Here's the link to Target:

#8709 Underground Mining Station

doctordark has uploaded some pictures at Brickshelf of the completed set of Power Miners #8709 Underground Mining Station. Below are a picture taken from the Brickshelf folder:

After seeing the pictures, it change my thought on this set a little, which I think this set was not bad afterall although it looks quite empty, but it has it's own playability.

LEGO Power Miners #8709 Underground Mining Station

The date for the release of for #8709 Underground Mining Station has drawn near and some lucky places even have them release earlier than the expected date. Anyway below are the shot of the box art, which is clearer:

Now that you can see this set contains 637 pieces, but it still looks so empty, maybe there are too much small pieces included in this set.

Power Miners #8709 Underground Mining Station

Looks like there are more surprises ahead from Power Miners theme which is, there turn out to be another set other than Cave Crusher, and that is #8709 Underground Mining Station. Below are the image found at Brickshelf:

I think is an exclusive set again. But anyway, the Power Miners team finally get a base of their own which is the good side of it and the bad side of it is that it turns out to be a little disappointing as I don't really like the way it was design.

#8958 Granite Grinder Review

Here's another Power Miners review from me. Lets start off with the details.

Details:
Theme: Power Miners
Name : Granite Grinder
S/N : #8958
Year : 2009
Pieces : 94
Minifig : 2
Price : RM58.90, SGD21.90, USD9.99, GBP7.85

The front is an image that show us what's the sets are like and at the side there are exact scale of the rock monster. Other than that, it also show us both of the minifigs. While at the back of it, it shows us the functions of the set and the pictures of Aero Shredder, the combination of Thunder Driller and Granite Grinder. Below are the pictures of the box art:

Inside the box are, 3 pieces of loose bricks, that is two rubber wheel treads, and a container, 2 packs of bricks, a separately packed Glaciator, an instruction book and a sticker sheet. Also the rubber piece are pack differently now.

The instruction book include us building steps, bricks checklist, advertisement of other Power Miners set, Power Miners collection checklist and combination of all the Power Miners set. Image below is the content straight out from the box and also a closer veiw of the sticker sheet:

Like other small Power Miners set, this set include us two minifig. We got Glaciator the blue rock monster. As for the miners, they got both side torso printed and also their leg printed (I just notice that the logo printed on their torso are different which separate them from each other).

The miners have two face expressions like others.

Well here's the rock monster, which were placed differently in different set. They come fully assemble and they can open up their mouth wide enough and to place a crystal or dynamite inside their wide body. Well this time is blue color which is kind of dark. Also it can carries crystal with it's hands.

As for the Granite Grinder, there is nothing much to complain about. I like the way the design the gas cylinders, and the floodlight. Also they include us the rubber wheel tread which makes it looks a little different from other sets. It also features an opening cockpit other than working jackhammer while moving the vehicle.

The moving jackhammer seems to move too little and we hardly tell whether it extend or not. But anyhow, it do extend but not much.

Here's some leftover extra piece together with the shot of completion:

Playability: 6/10 Moving the vehicle itself will move the jackhammer.
Design : 8/10 The design is quite different from others.
Price : 8/10 The price per piece seems to be acceptable.
Overall: 8/10 Nice colour, good parts, good accessories, nice minifig.

#8957 Mine Mech Review

Here's the first review on my blog, and it will be Power Miners #8957 Mine Mech, sponsored by Brick Bastion.

Details:
Theme: Power Miners
Name : Mine Mech
S/N : #8957
Year : 2009
Pieces : 67
Minifig : 2
Price : RM46.90, SGD16.90, USD7.99, GBP5.85

The Power Miners theme are mostly using lime green and orange. And as the box, it is lime green. The box art, include us the size of rock monster together with their name on the side while at the back of it it shows us the function of the set together with the alternate model of combining two sets.

About the content, there are sticker sheet, instruction booklet, 2 packs of bricks and a pack of Boulderax. It is a good thing that LEGO pack the rock monster separately, it prevent them from getting scratch by other bricks and the rock monster is ready fix for us.

As for the minfigs, there are only two. That would be Brains and Boulderax. Brains torso are both side printed and even the legs are printed. Brains got two face expression too. A normal one and an excited one.

As for Boulderax, it has a big mouth and able to keep crystal inside it, oh... and dynamite too. The rock monster can eat aything as long as it can be kept inside them. Inside the minifig is all smooth surface unlike the rough surface of bricks whereby you can attach pieces in it. The hand is well molded and the crystal pieces can attach to it.

While the mine mech, is quite small as it got short leg and hand. However , the articulation of the legs seems not to be affected by the size. The claw is movable and da blade is turnable. Other than that the black case thing that are protecting the cockpit can be open and close. There are place for you to hold the pick-axe and the dynamite.

Below are shot of completion and the extra part that we get from this set.

Playability: 8/10 There are a lot of movable parts like claw, leg, blade and opening cockpit
Design : 7/10 The hand of this mech is just ugly and short.
Price : 8/10 The price per piece seems to be acceptable.
Overall: 8/10 Nice colour, good accessories, nice minifig.

Well, I guess that's all for now.

Set sponsored by Brick Bastion.

Power Miners Short Movie

If you are looking for more Power Miners short clips, you can drop by at nick.com. There are a few clips available there and is different from the one at LEGO Power Miners website. I just like the clips as we get to see the clumsiness of the rock monster.

As for Malaysian, you might see that there is a short comic in the catalog and I guess you can refer to nick instead of LEGO to continue the stories.

Power Miners Summer 2009

A bit busy lately, and didn't manage to post all of the information here.

There will still be another 3 Power Miners set coming in this summer. Together with the coming set, there will be new rock monster, including the new crystal king although it was build by brick. Below are some information regarding the set:

#8962 Crystal King
Piece : 168
Price : 19.99USD
Release : August

#8963 Rock Wrecker
Piece : 225
Price : 34.99USD
Release : August

#8964 Titanium Command Rig
Piece : 706

It's cool to have a crystal king set. LEGO made a new mold for the head and the chest plate. Kind of like the translucent pieces from the crystal king. Guess that's the nicest model fro the coming set.

Power Miners #8962, #8963 and #8964

As for this new theme, Power Miners, there already has 3 sets been confirmed. Looks like #8962 is a Crystal King. From that set you get 2 minifigs and a giant rock monster head, and for the rest of the body, they are made by bricks.

While for #8963 and #8964 we will get the new rock monster that is shown in the previous post. We will get a green one in #8963 and red one in #8964.

Looks like LEGO is getting smarter, whereby they separate the rock monster in different sets so we will buy more of them.

Guess they are summer 2009 Power Miners sets.

Power Miners Impulse?

When you are searching for instruction scans, you might come upon this two set. Not sure if they are impulse set or not, some set LEGO didn't even officially release, like the Castle Skeleton Carriage and Knight with a catapult. Now, we saw that Power Miners instruction scan included this two sets #8907 Rock Hacker and #8908 Monster Launcher. Great set to get a rock monster. Below are the picture of both set:

New Power Miners Monster?

I found a picture on Brickshelf, and this time, it is a giant rock monster instead of a small one. So I guess there will be more Power Miners set coming if this picture are the new rock monster. Below are the picture, it is a small one:
