Soccer Party Game Ideas

Soccer Party Game Ideas from B.Nute productions
Your soccer enthusiast insists on a Soccer Party. Now what will you do to entertain the players? Here are loads of game ideas for your Soccer Party. Some ideas are straight out of a soccer practice, some are variants... either way, these game ideas should be loads of fun for the soccer star or the possible more shy ones who may be new to the game.

(Note: Many of these games are ideas for a large field/area. If your party is being held at your home, perhaps walk the gang to the local school yard or playground for the extra space. If not, a driveway or your yard will still do! For smaller spaces, use a smaller ball and/or a nerf/softer ball. For indoor spaces, consider using a plush ball.)

Warm Up Fun
Everyone needs to warm up their muscles, even little ones. Before you start the games, line the kids up and do some fun stretches, jumping jacks, high steps, and more to get their bodies moving!

How Far Can You...
Boot the Ball - Line the kids up at one end of the field. Let each kid "boot the ball" as far as he/she can. Farthest ball wins a small prize.
Throw In Challenge - Teach the kids about soccer throw ins. Once they understand how to do it (make sure both feet stay on the ground), give them a throw in challenge, like, farthest throw in or most accurate throw in (throw in that lands closest to target players feet), etc.

Juggling Tricks
You've seen those amazing players-- juggling the soccer ball every which way for hours! Have your gang practice some cool juggling tricks to impress their friends. Review some basics about juggling a soccer ball online before the party. At the party, start out with jugging with the knees (marching steps). Add in some light foot kicks (must keep in control) and possibly a chest move. See how many times they can juggle the ball/keep it in "play."

Headers: for Those Who Are Brave
Some kids just have a natural knack for knowing how to head a soccer ball. Some want NOTHING to do with it! I'm sure at your party, you may have all types. For those who'd like to try it, teach them some basics about heading a soccer ball, and then let them practice on your own. Some kids may just surprise you on how much they like it!

Relay Races
Dribbling Obstacle Course - Set up cones in a line down a field. Separate the kids into 2 teams. Have each child weave in and out of the cones dribbling the ball, then pass to the next player when done. First team that finishes wins.
The Pass It Relay (Hot Potato) - Split the kids into 2 teams. Have the kids in each team spread out in a line down the field about 10-15 feet apart (more or less depending on the age.) Start by having the first person in line pass to the next person, and so on, until the ball is passed to the last person in line. Tell the kids the ball is a hot potato and they must pass quickly, but obviously, accuracy in passing is key to as well. Once the ball is at the last person, he/she must pass it back down the line. First team to complete all the passes wins the relay.
Anything Goes Relay - This is one of those fun relays, where anything goes. Set up obstacles down a large field. From objects the kids need to dribble around, or kick the ball through a tube, or jump over or spin around-- mix it up and make it fun. The kids will love running (or dribbling the ball) through the obstacle course and finishing quickly!

Penalty Kicks on the Parents
What kid wouldn't want to shoot a penalty kick against a parent? Line the kids up for penalty shots, and have the shoot one at a time. Keep tally, Kids vs. Parents... and see how each fare!

Mixing it Up
Golf Soccer - Set up a "hole" or spot very far down the field where the kids much kick the ball to. You could put out a hula hoop as a marker, or just a string in a circle to mark the hole. Have the kids each stand at the "tee" or spot to start the kick off. Try to kick the ball into the hole with the fewest kicks.
Baseball Soccer - Have the party play a fun game of baseball, but instead of a bat and ball, use a soccer ball.

Scrimmage
A good old fashioned scrimmage may be a great way for kids to burn off energy and have fun. Try to keep the scrimmage not too competitive so kids who may be new to the game don't feel intimidated by the soccer stars. Possible a scrimmage where passing is required, or no goalies for very little ones. Or make it a fast moving game where kids have to change positions every 5 minutes!

Soccer Party Invitations and More

Soccer Party Invitations, Thank You Postcards and Stickers from B.Nute productions on Zazzle
Our town is a huge soccer town! Ask pretty much any kid and they will let you know they play soccer. Both my kids have been playing since the ripe old age of 5. Granted, many of those early years, I don't think you could have called it "soccer" they were playing, but they were having fun.

Now that our season is in full swing, I've created Soccer Party invitation, thank you postcards and stickers perfect for your soccer player! They come in a couple bright color options and you can choose from either a boy or girl soccer player image as well.

So, time to head out to the field, dribble, shoot and score some points with your soccer enthusiast and get their party started!

Sports Party Game Ideas

Sometimes a boy can't just pick one sport for his party-- he wants ALL sports! Here are some game ideas for your sports party to keep those kids running, busy, and having fun. (Note: many of these games can be tailored to just one sport too-- if, say you are having just a baseball party or football party)

Sports Charades
Here's a great warm up game to get kids excited and ready to go! Write a list of sports on a piece of paper, cut them out into strips, fold them and put them in a baseball hat. Let the kids pick one and act it out. Include some easy sports, but also hard ones to make it more challenging. Here's a list to get you going:

  • Football
  • Baseball
  • Soccer
  • Tennis
  • Swimming
  • Ice Skating
  • Fencing
  • Polo
  • Badmitton
  • Ping Pong/Table Tennis
  • Speed Skating
  • Synchronized Swimming
  • Curling
  • Shot Put
  • Long Jump

Kids Sports Trivia Game
A trivia game can be made hard or easy depending on the kids and their sports prowess. For younger ones, you can stay clear of professional sports names and stats, and focus more on how a sport is played or sports terminology. At the end, if you'd like, hand out ribbons or a toy trophy for a prize. You could also have kids work in teams too. There are plenty of sports statistic and trivia sites on the web to gather questions. There are also sites made just for kids sports trivia. Here are some sample questions for an "easier" trivia game.

  1. When someone scores it is called a touchdown. What sport is this?
  2. "Love, Deuce, Match..." what sport do these words come from?
  3. What sport uses a puck?
  4. What sport uses a birdie?
  5. Does a quarterback play baseball or football?

ProSports Championship Games
Many sports have some type of special tournament during their season, for instance the NBA Slam Dunk Showdown, or the MLB Home Run Derby. Why not have a sampling of these types of contests at your party? Here is a list of ideas:

  • A Dunk Contest - fanciest or most elaborate acting wins!
  • Home Run Hitter Contest - perhaps you don't have a baseball diamond handy-- switch out the ball to be a wiffle ball, so it can't go as far, and make different markers on your lawn to indicate distance... Kids will love this just the same as going to a real baseball diamond.
  • Football Field Goal Kicks - For younger kids, set up a mini-sized goal so it is possible for them to make the field goal. Also, kicking a smaller Nerf football can be a lot easier than a regulation ball.
  • Hole in One Contest - A cup and a putter is all you need to simulate this golf contest.
  • Penalty Kick Contest - Set up two cones and act as goalie. Now let each child try to shoot a soccer goal on you!

Free Printable Bear Country 8x10 Sign

Free Printable Bear Country Sign from B.Nute productions
When we're knee deep into the Fall season, and our calendar is filled to the gills with school activities and events, I pine for a weekend in the pines. Fall time up at our family spot in Tahoe is like a little bit of heaven. The summer tourists have gone, and the skiers have not yet arrived. The lake sparkles in peace, making this a wonderful get-away.

When I made this free printable Bear Country sign, I immediately thought of this spot. This sign would be perfect in a frame in what my mom refers to as the Bear room of their cabin. It's decked out with vintage Smokey the Bear items, a log style bed and a Pendleton blanket hanging from the wall.

Well, as I mentioned, soccer games and walk-a-thons prevail... so instead, how about use this sign for a "Going on a Bear Hunt" party. It would look great on the front door, or to let kids know it's time to start a bear hunt game based on the classic children's story. Enjoy!

Baseball Week: Baseball Party Decoration Ideas

Close Up of All Star Party Invitation by B.Nute productions
Now that World Cup Soccer is over, it's time to focus back on America's favorite summertime sport-- BASEBALL! It's Baseball Week at B.Nute productions. I'll be posting Baseball party ideas all week long, so stay tuned to All-Star ideas! This week is also the All Star Game 2010 in Anaheim, so the timing couldn't be more perfect!

All Star Baseball Party Inspiration Board

Pick Your Favorite Ballpark
I’m sure your household has a favorite team... why not make your home or party spot into that stadium? Pick out a few signature elements of that ball park, and make some decorations! For instance, take Wrigley Field... the marquee out front, the vines on the outfield wall, the bleachers, the scoreboard... all signature features of that park.  There are plenty of great websites about your favorite ballpark. Here’s a site that lists them all: Ballparksofbaseball.com

Get Out Those Trading Cards
Head up to the attic and pull out your old trading cards. These will make a great addition to the party table. Scatter about the center of the table for a eye catching table runner. Worried about your treasured cards getting dirty? Heady out and buy a set of modern cards at a lower price, and/or not as precious as your childhood favorites!

All Star Personalized Banner
B.Nute productions' All Star Buddies Personalized Banner

Pictures of your All Star and his buddies will be a great way to greet guests to the party! This matching banner can be purchased on bnute.etsy.com.

Jars of Baseballs and Team Pendants
Any table will look extra festive for the baseball party with jars or bowls of baseballs. A great centerpiece. Add a few American flags, or pendants from your favorite teams to complete the look.

Don't forget the invitation as well! Check out B.Nute productions' All Star Baseball Party invitation to make the look complete.

What I did this Summer

There we were at my daughter’s first soccer team get together... I was chatting happily with one of her friends. I asked her, “Did you have a good summer?” She said curtly, “Yes.” Trying to get some more excitement, I asked, “What was your favorite part of your summer?” She looked at me, and said, “I had a playdate.”

So, there it is moms. All that running around in the summer keeping the kiddies engaged in camp, swim team, family vacations, etc., maybe isn’t needed... it looks like just one playdate can suffice for a great summer! (Note, the sarcasm.)

OK., I’m not an ogre, really! I won’t deprive my kids of summertime fun. I love it too much myself! I love eating outdoors, late nights, late mornings, and lots and lots of swimming. Not swimming laps, the kind of swimming where you just bob up and down... floating, with no where to go.

With the comment that my daughter’s friend made, though, it just makes me realize that sometimes just a playdate is all we need to have a really good day/week/month/season!

Enjoy those last summer days before school starts up!
