A recap of this past week's events
Fan art, awesome stuff from Weta, movie awards, and art from the upcoming Lego The Hobbit video game have all been seen and discussed in the world of Tolkien fandom. If you have been wondering why I use the phrase 'world of Tolkien fandom' so much, it is because the works of J.R.R. Tolkien have on the largest fan bases in the world, with members spanning across continents. See what these thousands, and very possibly millions of people have been up to in the past week!

High-res images of four new Lego sets that tie in with The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
I hesitate to draw any conclusions from these images, as Lego sets are tentative at best in accurately representing their theme, even though they are, in my opinion, one of the best kind of toys ever. Even so, they seem to indicate that there may be some interesting (to say the least) occurrences in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. As always, be sure to leave a comment on what you think all this is about.

A fan made video of the Riddles in the Dark
Starring a very scared Bilbo and a very hungry Gollum. Here is a clever and interesting little video of the scene Riddles in the Dark made using Lego stop motion. I hope you enjoy!

The latest Lego Hobbit set unveiled at Comic Con!
With the San Diego Comic Con 2013 coming to a close, Lego unveiled one last set: Lake Town Chase. It is unknown who is chasing who, though we do know that the set has 334 pieces and includes five minifigures, which are, as far as I can tell (their identities have not been officially revealed), Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield, Bard the Bowman, Master of Laketown, and a Laketown Guard.

Even though this has very little to do with hobbits in general, I will devote this post this this awesome Lego creation. In fact, I remember that Merry and Pippin participated in this battle so I am okay after all. It is called 'Last March of the Ents,' and was created by OneLug. It is over 7 feet high and its base, which contains 25 ents and 100 orcs, has a diameter of 8 feet. It was revealed in November, 2011 at the BrickCon in Seattle. It will only be on display at one other place: TheOneRing.net's 'An Unexpected Art show.'
If you click on the picture you can see a much larger version, and it is amazing. It is astoundingly accurate to the scene in The Two Towers, featuring Treebeard, an ent on fire, and water flooding Isengard. You can even see Saruman watching from his balcony. The tower was directly inspired by artwork by Alan Lee, and seems to follow it to a brick. Great job, OneLug!

I know this is probably not what you want to read about less than a month from the premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, but another The Hobbit Lego set has been revealed. #79004 is called Barrel Escape, and features the dwarves and Bilbo escaping from the elves in barrels. This set is most likely a little confusing to little children because the elves, who usually are good, are the bad guys in this particular set.

The latest and greatest The Hobbit Lego set was just revealed earlier today. As earlier spoilers have hinted, this scene will not be in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, but rather will most likely be in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, when the dwarves and Bilbo complete their journey to the Lonely Mountain. #79001 is called Escape from Mirkwood Spiders, and it includes minifigures of Legolas, Tauriel, Fili, and Kili.

The fourth The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Lego set was revealed just today. It is a recreation of last part of the first Hobbit movie. (Ok, this was just a major spoiler. If you didn't want to know that, then just forget it.) #79002 is called Attack of the Wargs, and includes Thorin Oakenshield (the first minifigure of him, by the way), Bifur, and Yazneg (also a first).

Here is yet another post devoted to Legos. While many of you no longer care about these little plastic pieces, it is still a popular toy and a great promotional material. The third The Hobbit Lego set has finally been revealed. Item #79000 is called The Riddles of the Ring, featuring, as you can probably tell, Gollum and Bilbo Baggins. Look at the great photo below!

While I'm on a Lego theme here, I will mention several of the awesome new The Hobbit Lego sets. I want to warn you, before you keep reading, that there are some pretty big spoilers here. In an earlier post I told you about the An Unexpected Gathering set. There is now another set, this time really large, featuring the goblin caves and the goblin king. The Goblin King Battle is just the second of a series of six. The others will be released on October 22, October 29, November 5, and finally, November 12. Here are a few pictures of the sets:
Lego Gollum Video
Monday, October 15, 2012
This video is a little old, but that doesn't dim its hilarity any! BrotherhoodWorkshop made this video about a month ago. It features the Lego Gollum in his cave. That particular scene takes place in The Hobbit, so that is why I posted it. These guys just added a new twist to the story. I hope you enjoy it!
After you have watched this video, I have another one for you. It is by the same guys and shows the exact same footage except that this time, it is really Gollum's voice, singing with slightly changed lyrics.

Here is a picture of the first Hobbit Legos revealed at the San Diego Comic Con. This is a model of Bag End, home of Bilbo Baggins, and includes minifigures of Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf, Dwalin, Bombur, Bofur and Balin. As you can see, it contains exquisite detail, from the hair on the dwarves to the specially-made round door. It is not yet available for sale, and I expect that it will not be available until The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey comes out in DVD, but I might be wrong.
