Hello 2012... What a JOY it is to meet you.

I don't think I have ever been so excited for a new year to start. Now don't get me wrong... 2011 was not a bad year at all... I guess I am just really excited for this next year and it's new adventures.

Each year I join the masses and choose a word for the year. As simple as it may sound, this is something that I pray about and truly seek wisdom and guidance for. At first when I started this, the word that I would choose would just be something that I felt heavy on my heart. This year, I didn't feel the heaviness... just peace.

2009- Reflect
This was such a profound word for our family. This was the year that we truly looked back on what we believed in and made a very tough decision to leave California (and our families) and begin our own adventure in Colorado (Aug. 2009). An adventure it has been. Reflecting on where we were in life and where we wanted our family to be lead us to the amazing move to Colorado. Reflect was the perfect word for us this year.

2010-Bold
This year was a tough one for us, as to be expected with making a  life changing move just a few months earlier. This was the year that I learned to be Bold. I had no idea why this word would be so necessary when I picked it in January... but later in the year I realized just why God had put it in my heart. Bold is gathering all the strength necessary to make tough decisions for the betterment of yourself, well at least this is what it was for me. I had to make decisions that at the time seemed so difficult, yet now seem so vital. I am so much better for this boldness. Sometimes being bold isn't just standing up for good... sometimes it is reminding yourself truly what you are made of, and that you deserve good (even if it is hard to say to yourself!).

2011-Truth
I made a vow this year to seek truth in all I do. In work, art, relationships and family. Little did I know that I would enter this year and have to hold on to the truth with both hands clenched, especially with relationships. This was a tough lesson, but one I am better for. If you know you who you are, and what you hold true in your heart... the rest will follow... especially those who matter. I end 2011 with a few less friends, but am grateful for the strengthened relationships that I now hold. It is a tough lesson when you realize that you can't be friends with everyone... but it makes those who you hold close, oh so much more special.

2012- JOY
This year I will be going back to school. A change in my life that is very big. It has been 10 years since I last sat in a college class. After graduation with my Associates Degree, we found out that I was pregnant in which the best decision for our family would be to have my husband finish college and I would stay home and raise our children. Now that our children are in school, life has settled. It's time for me to finish, and this is exciting. I am not exactly sure why this years word is Joy, but I do now that it has prepared me to look at this new upcoming adventure with happiness. This year, joy will be a choice. It is a choice I can make and I will do everything necessary to maintain this outlook this year. I have seen what God has done the last few months preparing me for this next season. Freeing up my time, my heart and my spirit. I am happy, and am so grateful for this next season in mine and my family's life.

I can see now how each year's word has been just what we have needed. I am very grateful for the growth the past few years have brought to myself and my family. As I look back on these past few years I am reminded of the pain and trials we have had to endure. The wonderful thing is that we are a family. We endure things together. Always have, always will. Together we have grown and continue to grow. As our trials increase in difficulty, so does our strength. We are prepared or will learn along the way. I am excited to see what this year brings us, what every it is... I will work my best to see it increase our joy. There are so many things to be grateful for, maybe counting the blessings will help us remember the joy through out the year.

 In crafty news...

I have been working on a fun project for Brewer Sewing and will be participating in a fun blog hop throughout January featuring the Tablet Keeper by Nancy Zieman. The blog hop starts today! Click on the link below for a list of all participants.

Thanks again for your comments, friendship and encouragement... I am reminded always that I am not in this alone. We are all in this life together... and what a beautiful thing that is!

A break for blog hoppin' fun

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to update you on my next journal page for the art journaling that Rebecca and I have been sharing.

I have to go to Chicago this week, (kind of quickly planned) to help SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L get their booth ready for this Winters CHA. because of this, my journal pages are a bit behind and I am sorry! Last week I had posted my Fly canvas and forgot to schedule it, so it was a little late... again truly sorry!

Well this week, I am going to try my hardest to take some time out to create based off of Rebecca's prompt from last week :

Words: How would you describe courage?
Medium: Ribbons, lace, or any kind of trim

I am going to try and create something Sunday night... if not Monday or Tuesday.

Until then, I hope you will join me with Spellbinders as they share their Holiday Hoppin' Blog Hop tomorrow and Friday. Tomorrow, I will be sharing a fun ornament that I created using their Nested hearts Die. Make sure to read the post to see how YOU could be one of the winners in their two giveaways.

Also to continue the fun, I will be sharing some fun and easy homemade gifts the first few weeks of December. I will be bringing back my Peppermint Cookie Crunch Bark, and perhaps do a video or two to help share some stories... and recipes and gift ideas. I do hope you will join me!

Thanks again for your patience... and friendship. I am off to Chicago... wish me luck!

Shabby to Chic... Turning the Ordinary to FABULOUS pt. 1

Ok so today is the first day of my blog hop with Marion Smith from a Piece of Craft. In this FUN blog hop, we are going to share some unconventional ways of making the ordinary fabulous! We have the next two weeks planned out with some fun themes and great ideas! Here is what we have planned out:
APRIL

19th antique store finds: reusing vintage items in crafting. We will take a trip to the flea market and come back with a variety of options to make you re-think these lost treasures.

22nd $1 Store: Now we all know that $1 stores do have a small scrapbooking aisle... but what about the rest of the store? We will explore the possibilities beyond the craft section and open up the possibilities to some VERY interesting finds.

26th Reduce, Recycle, Reuse: on this day we will feature some "unconventional" products that can be easily re-used in a FABULOUS way! Sprinkle in a little "green" mentality and you have an inexpensive and totally resourceful crafting experience.

29th Rags to Riches: So for this day we are taking some of our "older layouts" and projects and reinventing them to a modern time, not necessarily taking them apart... but offering a "classic" layout the opportunity to be "new" and perhaps take these ideas onto a whole new page. We will also be utilizing some literal "rags" and incorporating them into our projects.

With April being Autism Awareness month, my blog hop for the month kinda took a back seat. But thankfully Marion was on board to do a POWER month crammed into two weeks. I am looking forward to sharing with you all some "resourceful" ways of creating in hopes that we give you some ideas that will platform some of your own "resourceful" thoughts.

So here is my interpretation of our theme for today (Antique/Flea Market Finds):

For this resourceful craft, I used some old wool and cashmere sweaters to create a wearable broach.

Using some old Jewelry from an antique store to embellish the centers.

This flower is doubled up on color using a striped sweater.

And here is a video explaining just how I did this:

I have a few other items that I picked up on my flea market venture, but unfortunately the battery ran out of my camera as I was filming, so I will have to share those this weekend. We will also be doing a giveway for those of you who would like to try out out fun technqiues, give them a try and post them to facebook. Make sure to tag myself and Marion in them so that we can add you to the list of participants. We will randomly pick a winner from those who participate. Now I know this didn't go so well last month, but I am hoping that was just because of easter. This specific craft is super easy and CHEAP, so I hope you all will try it out this month. We will be randomly picking a winner at the end of the month from all who participated.

Next months blog hop will be featuring the Tattered Angels Education Team!!! I am so grateful to be able to participate with the girls for a Tattered Angels National Scrapbook Month Blog Hop. It will be so much fun and feature ALL things Tattered Angels. It will start May 1st with some videos from the Tattered Angels staff.

So as you can see I am going to be BUSY this month, but between work and soccer for the kids, this will be a fun project for me and James to work on. We love doing these videos and hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Thanks!

Wear your Adhesive on the Outside Part 2

It's that time again! It is Monday and once again me and my dear friend Nathalie Kalbach are up to some crafty goodness! Although we have been sick (I KNOW, STILL!) here, I was able to get the assistance of my dear James to help me out with this video. Excuse the middle where it goes into song, for some reason this clip caught some static, so the music is actually a lot easier on the ears than the static that was there.

The SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L products that we are using this week are the Crafty Power Tape (although I called it Craft and Photo Tape, it has been re-named) and the photo corners. In the video I share a basket weaving technique, weaving the craft and photo tape into a nice little grid pattern. You can easily apply the adhesive to strips of paper if that would be easy enough for you to weave too!

Here are some up close pictures of the project:

Final Project: Sweetheart- Sawyer and Emma Culbertson (His little crush). I forgot to JOURNAL! LOL! I will add it in later :)

Here is the close up shot of the heart that I did the basket weave technique using Crafty Power Tape and Glitter. I then punched it with a Fiskars Punch (I believe it was the large scalloped heart)

This is the technique that Nathalie used last week where she used the Adhesive Sheets with Embossing powder. I laid the adhesive sheet on my black paper (Couture Cardstock) unevenly to give the black paper texture. I then laid my screen down and sprinkle UTEE over the top of the adhesive. I then removed my screen and heated the UTEE so it would crystallize. After it cooled down, I sprinkle red glitter into the adhesive that my screen protected to create this broken and solid image.

Ruffle made with misted paper towels and the Crafty Power Tape as seen in this video.

And here are a few ideas for using Photo Corners by SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L. I used the photo corners as texture to create the shingles on the house. I created a swirled pattern on the house.

And Here I cut out some wings and layered the photo corners on the wings to look like feathers. I also misted them with Marshmallow Glimmer Mist to give the a nice little glimmer.

Thanks for stopping by and REMEMBER to join in the fun and link back to our blogs of pics of your projects or email me at primadonnaliz@yahoo.com and I will enter you into a random drawing for a nice prize package. The more times you play along the more chances you have to WIN!

Thanks again and make sure to visit sweet Nat Kalbach to see what she did with her adhesives!

Thanks!!!

XOXO

Thank you so much for posting both tutorials. I was kind of hoping you did. I was afraid to ask, since I know your schedule is busy. I really enjoyed them both. Really cool techniques. Thank you for the lovely giveaway.

If you could email me your address @ primadonnaliz@yahoo.com, I will get this prize out to you.

Thanks to all for participating in our giveaway, I am working on gathering some friends for a 12 days of Christmas blog hop, not sure who it will be yet, but I am thinking that may be a fun time to share some cool techniques as well as share some fun "Thrify Gifties" for the holidays.

Let me know what you think and if there is anything in particular that you may want to see.

Thanks again!

How could I pick just one?

I couldn't help it, went ahead and posted both videos... I know I said I would only do one, but seriously how long has it been since I did something crafty up on this blog? And I am a sucker for a good old fashion tutorial, so here they are!

I couldn't think of a better time to show how grateful I am for the friends that I have acculimated with my little blog, so here are the two videos I promised (honestly it was a split between what you guys wanted to see) I hope you find them helpful and that they spark your creativity! I also added the Glimmer Mist basics that I did last May for Bad Girls NSD. For those of you who are just now joining my little blog, this was a Glimmer Mist 101 basics tutorial that I did to help share some tips and techniques with using Glimmer Mist (it is a great little tutorial especially if you want an even coating of Glimmer Mist or if you want to know how to prevent clogging your spray).

Crepe Paper Ruffle and Flower Using Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist

Faux Coppering Technique Using Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist and Tattered Angels Chip Tiles

Glimmer Mist 101 basics to using Glimmer Mist and how to prevent clogging your sprayer

And of course it wouldn't be a very thankful blog post if I didn't do a GIVEAWAY!

Leave a comment on this thread and I will randomly pick a winner on Monday, November 30th 2009. The winner will recieve a Faux Coppering pack which includes 1 package of Travel Chip Tiles, and one bottle each of Patina, Turquoise Blue, Coffee Shop and Copper Glimmer Mist.

Family Altered Banner

Ok, so after much a fuss, I am finally able to get this bad boy on the blog! Here is my little contribution to our Giving Thanks Blog Hop. I have to say it has been such a pleasure being a part of this wonderful group of ladies. Even though we all have such different styles, it is great to see them come together in a common thread of thanksgiving.

This Banner is using the coppering technique on Tattered Angels Chip Tiles and a whole lot of fun textures. I altered a faux rusted star garland that I got at a local home decor discount store for 2.99, totally worth it!

Here are the letters in the banner, 6 total spelling FAMILY. I wish I would have thought to make the title FAMILY a color other than brown, but I was in the moment and well, brown was hot and I just couldn't resist!

Here are some close up shots of the letters so that you can see a little more into the details of the Chip Tiles.

A little peek...

I know, I soooo don't like it when people build up with little sneaky peaks of their projects, although I totally see why they do so... I just get too excited to wait to see it ALL!

Well of course as I say this... I must join the ranks of sneaker peekers. Not willingly, but, well, here's the story.

So I had a rockin' time getting together with the girls of Ft. Collins, I was invited by Amanda to meet some of the other scrappers in my new home town. These girls totally rocked! I was absolutely inspired and found the time passed way to quickly! While there I worked on my banner for this special blog hop. Well I finished it a few days later, took it into the office and photographed it in our studio, only to leave the images at the office. So the only images I have for now are the banner hanging in my office (not the best lighting, but we can make it work!).

So here is my sneak peek. I have two tutorials that coordinate with this banner, one is how to copperize Tattered Angels Chip Tiles, and the other is the crepe paper blooms. Let me know which you think I should share and I will try and get it posted by Wednesday (and of course I will do a coordinating giveaway too!).

Here is a list of the other girlies that are joining the blog hop, check out their blogs for some inspirational stuff!
