4 years ago I had no idea how my life was about to change.

4 years ago I only had an inkling of what love really was.

4 years ago I had no idea what being tired really was.

4 years ago I became a mother.

Happy birthday, Blake! We love you!

A Birthday and a Bunny

I kind of fell off the blogging wagon for a while there. I'm finding that what little time I had to blog pre-Trevor is now gone. When one kid is happy, the other is not. Or they're both unhappy. Or they're both happy but momma's so tired she can't keep her eyes open, let alone construct a coherent thought.

But life goes on and must be documented.

Blake turned 3! After about 2 months of planning, Ali and I pulled off a successful Easter egg hunt/birthday celebration for Lola and Blake. Now Blake thinks he has to take his Easter basket to every birthday party he goes to.

After a wonderful birthday party, Blake woke up to a visit from the Easter bunny. Well, he actually woke up to a mom saying, "Hurry! Hurry! We're going to be late for church! Here, hold your brother so I can take a picture of you in your matching outfits. Smile! No, not a goofy face. Say cheese!"

When we got home from church, Blake searched for his Easter basket and was pretty pleased with what the Easter bunny left for him.

You Say It's Your Birthday...

it's my birthday too, yeah!

Ok so it actually isn't my birthday. But we did celebrate Evan's birthday on Monday! The fun started with a few birthday donuts for breakfast, a little shoe shopping sans Blakey, a delicious dinner of copycat Chick-fil-A sandwiches, and some cake and ice cream!

Blake was in charge of decorating the cupcakes, and he now possesses enough self control to do that without taking a taste first. Although he did ask, "I eat it?" about 100 times during the whole process.

All in all, I think Evan had a great birthday. When I asked him what his favorite part was he said it was when Blake sang "Happy Birthday" to him when he woke up, totally unprompted.

Happy birthday, Evan! We love you!

27

Today I turn 27 years old.

This is the first time in my entire life that my age sounds old to me. I don't actually think 27 is old. I just think it sounds old.

So in honor of my birthday, I thought I'd record 27 things about myself.

Actually, that sounds like it's going to take a lot of energy to come up with and I'm 27 now, ya know? I don't have as much energy as I used to.

Happy birthday to me!

1 year (video update!)

We celebrated Blake's first birthday yesterday! Blake got to play with one of his buddies while I had a root canal and then once Daddy got home, we had a party! And even though we didn't invite anyone over, I was so exhausted by the end of the night that it felt like we had thrown a huge party for him!

He was tentative at first...

but then he dug right in!

I stole some of his cupcake...

but he didn't care!

Wait, this party has an end?

(After spending way too much time trying to figure out how to upload a video that is too large, I finally figured out how to compress and upload it. Phew!)

Happy first birthday, Blake!

Happy 6 month birthday, Blakey boo!

I'm sure he'll love that little nickname when he's 16. 6 months ago today I was laying in a hospital bed convinced that in about 2 hours I'd have a beautiful baby boy. Nature had a different idea of how things would go down. You can read about it here. (It's long and slightly depressing. I was really emotional about the whole experience for a while.)

But, this blog post isn't about me. It's about our little baby who is growing up way too quickly. It seems like yesterday he was snorting when he cried and didn't know the meaning of the word sleep. (Well, we're still working on the sleep thing.)
I've always wondered how some women can look amazing after they give birth.
I was not one of them, nor will I ever try to be. I'm having a baby here, people!

Now, Blake has 2 teeth, not much more hair than when he was born, and a set of lungs that has only gotten stronger with time. He loves to play in his jungle bouncer and make all sorts of wonderful noises for the people below us to wonder what the heck is going on up here. He can't crawl yet, but can push himself backwards. He usually ends up pushed under the couch, staring at me like, "Ummmm, I'm stuck."
He's gotten really good at eating solids. We started peas yesterday. He's not really a fan of those. But, who is!? I'm guessing he is close to 17 pounds, 27 inches long. We don't go to the doctor for his 6 month check up for another 2 weeks, so we won't know how much he's grown until then. Overall, he's a pretty happy baby. I'm excited to see what the next 6 months have in store! (and slightly nervous about the whole crawling and walking thing. At least now he stays in one general area!)
Happy birthday, Blake!
