An Exchange and a Little Stitching

Gentle Friends, I took a little break from the computer, it wasn't all my doing as we had super slow intermittent connectivity but I though i would post some stitching.....

I took part in an Exchange over at the HOE and my ornament finally arrived just a couple of days ago.  It has been out and about in the mails for well over a month - it must have been coming via camel, in keeping with the Season.....

... my partner, Karen, stitched for me the cutest snowman, and finished it with some ball fringe...
______________

....  I've also been ever so slowly stitching away on Santa's Village, and have finally finished up Mrs. Claus' Cookie Shop.  I'm saving the french knots after all the major stitching is finished.  Now the first row is completed it's on to the second row.....

Some More Exchange Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, a couple of days ago I showed you the wonderful exchange things I received.... and today I'm going to show you the things I stitched and sent.......

....  For the HOS Christmas Ornament Exchange I made Kathy this piece, from PS Book #191 "Nordic Holiday" - using a mystery piece of 36ct linen, and the called for DMC red and green.  I finished it as a Pyn Keepe, using a cream braid, then laid a red and green wired ribbon with gilt edges and green Pyns.  I totally love the way this turned out, even the Hag Claw liked it, I may have to whip up a few of these for our tree, as all the patterns in Book 191 are great.
___________________

For the Private Exchange that I did with Shirlee, I stitched up Jenny Bean's Christmas Ornament 2010, from Shakespeare's Peddler.  I used mostly the called for Belle Soie silks, I changed a couple, because they didn't look very nice on the 36ct piece of linen I was using.

I chose this chart because I knew that Shirlee likes carols, houses and samplers, and this sort of said all those things to me.  Another thing I changed in the chart a bit is I left off the large letter "J" that was at the bottom.  I tried stitching an "S" instead, but I couldn't make it look right.  I also changed the date  - on the chart it had a date of 1824, which meant nothing, but is the date on most of the Jenny Bean charts - so I found that "Silent Night " was composed in 1818, and that does mean something.

_____________

There you go sports fans, another week down and only a few short days until Christmas.  It's pouring again here, and has been all day........  It may be a KFC night.........  Have a super weekend!!

Some Wonderful Exchange Pieces Arrived.......

Gentle Friends I thought today I would catch you up on some of the really spectacular stitched lovelies I've received in the past few days.......  starting with an Exchange piece that was Angel Stitched by Terri over at Dixie Sampler.  She hosted a Haunted Harvest Exchange this Fall, and my partner had some serious family health issues so couldn't fulfill her obligation  - and - Terri jumped right in and a wonderful box arrived a few days ago.....  with this....

.... great Pyn Tray.....and also she also included with the Tray.....

........ some fun goodies......
___________________________

I did a Private Ornament Exchange with Shirlee fromover at The Easily Influenced Stitcher....  she sent a super box of Christmas Cheer........

.....  the box held a load of wrapped gifts, that went under the tree, and the ornament she stitched in our exchange this year for our tree......  we did it last year and I was so happy to do it again......  and planning for next year......   :)
___________________

.... and the last Exchange piece arrived yesterday..... I took part in the HOE Christmas Ornament Exchange and received from Jayne, from over at  Jayne's Stitching Tales, this super ornament....

.... along with Shirlee's lovely ornament it now graces the tree and they look wonderful!!!

Fall Exchange Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, the last couple of months I took part in a couple of Fun Exchanges.  The first one was "Haunted Harvest Exchange" with Terri over at Dixie Sampler,  I sent my exchange partner this.......

...... from l to r clockwise.... while in Paris I picked up a packed of thread winders at Sajou, and in Sarlat I picked up a porcelain thimble with geese, I also knew she liked Stacy Nash and so I kitted up a Hallowe'en project and the stitched piece I sent was a "Welcome Autumn" pyn keepe from Sweetheart tree.  My partner had a family emergency and couldn't finish out the Exchange, Terri very generously offered to put together a Angle Exchange in its place and when it arrives I'll Post a snaperoo.
__________________

I also took part in the Autumnal Exchange over at the HOE and my partner sent me this super hanging piece.  It was a freebie from Nickyscreations, and I sent this pyn keepe.....

...... a Freebie called "Just a Little Autumn" from San Man Originals......  These were fun Exchanges, I have a couple more coming up.......

Wrapping up the Week.... An Exchange, Some Who Hound Shots and "Is that Hallowe'en Stuff??"

Gentle Friends, I heard from my Partner in the HOE ABC Exchange, Sandra, that she had received the Pyn Keepe I made and sent to her.  Here's a snap...

... I sued a Freebie that I really like called "Bright Birds" from Barrick Samplers (you can tell from the name just how old this sucker is!!  I used a 36ct over dyed linen, and converted the floss from the called for DMC to over dyed WDW.  It turned out pretty cute if I do say so myself.
______________

Here are a couple of shots from last night - now a bit of background info - with Peaches taking heart medicine morning and evening  - one of her pills is a diuretic, so I take the hounds out about every 2 hours so there can do their thing out side and I'm not scrubbing carpets all the time.....  so with that tid bit here's a shot of the "hound chair" before we went out at 9 pm......

... it's Lolly and Wahumpi scamming on the fur, blankets and the heating pad (the orange thing with cord)  we keep it on low so there is a warm spot for them.......  we all went outside to tinkle, and it being windy and in the low 50's and low fog so it was also damp, the hounds got a chill.......  so Peaches made a bee-line ......

... for the warm spot, and Wahumpi grabbed the edge again, he is the only one who'll snag the edge spot, but warm is warm.........  are my evenings full of glitz and glamour!!!
__________

We were in the Castro one day this week, and since it's Pride Week, culminating in the gigantic Pride Parade on Sunday, you couldn't move on the sidewalks for all the folks from out of town.....  we stopped into Cliffs, the notions and Fabric side and they had out a few of the new fall fabrics....  and I had to get a yard of this.......
... it comes in white and black and this orange and black.  I know from past years if I wait till the Fall they'll be out of all the great fabrics.  Now, what to do with this fun stuff??

A Super Mail Day

Gentle Friends, yesterday the mail brought me a wonderful little surprise to start off my weekend......

.....  from Conny, in Holland, came this lovely little Pyn Pillow.  It is from the ABC Exchange over on the HOE, she was my partner.  The designer is Tra La La and the piece is called "Duo Couture."  Using the recommended floss she stitched it on Natural Zweigart Linen.  Thank you so much Conny for such a sweetly stitched piece!!!

The exchange I stitched and sent has a way to go and is still travelling - when it arrives I post a snaperoo here.
____________

.....and that wraps up the week on a really high note!!!  Tanks again for stopping by dos top again!!

Take care.

Quick Stitching update.....

Gentle friends now that I have wrapped up my "Travel Log" I am almost at a loss as to what to post about....  I did want to thank you all for you kind comments and emails about the trip.

Today I think I'll post a couple of stitching things....

First up will be a piece  I stitched for an Exchange I did over on the HOE Blog.  My partner was Leigh at Kielrain's Stitches..... and here's what I made and sent.....

... if I remember correctly I stitched it on 32ct Silkweaver "Sterling" using Belle Soie "Plush Plum" silk, the chart is called "French Country Letter's" and is from JBW Designs.  I liked the idea of buttons (the model has a little button decoration) along the top and so I pulled out my button bag and found some older and newer ones that worked.
__________

I have been stitching along on "Feast of Friendship" and here is a snap of the progress.....

.... The colours are all wonky because the light was odd and photoshop didn't help a bit........  I am a bit further along than this as I took the photo on Friday.  I have switched up a couple of floss choices and will make sure to post them.

A Stitchity Post Pt 1

Gentle Friends I am really happy to be back , and did miss my Blog and all my Buddies.....  but it was a super break from reality.  There was not much time to rest as we were really busy and going, going going the whole time I was in Brittany.  Then when I got to Paris I hit the ground running.  Today and Tomorrow I talk about some stitching stuff...

Starting off with some Paris stitching - I took with me three projects and those i talk about tomorrow, today I'll talk about my visit to "Des Fils et une Aiguille"  (loosely translates to "Yarn and Needle.")  It isa super shop right on the rue Chabanias which is a small street off the rue de Richelieu.  The first time I set off trying to find it I got turned around in the Metro Station and once I made it to street level I ended up walking in a big circle around the Opera until it finally started to sprinkle a bit and I stopped into a small store and asked directions.  When I stopped and asked -  I was about 200 feet and two left turns of getting there.  It was really easy to find once I figured out where I went wrong.....

Once you turn the corner onto rue Chabanais you can see it easily as it is a pale blue/grey colour.
The entire shop is just packed with great stuff!!!
...  Here is Elodie, the shop owner,  cutting me a piece of linen.  I actually had a mission on going to the shop and not just to ogle the goodies.  A while back I bought a French chart of the Alphabet using Aesop's fables and had never gotten a piece of blueish linen to use - so I though it might be a good idea to get a hunk of linen while in Paris... she is really helpful and there is so much to see and peruse.....

.....  and I couldn't leave with just a piece of linen (it really is on the blue side and not so very dark as the snap)....  I picked up a great chart called "Christmas" by Renato Parolin and Italian designer.  I had never seen this before and there was a super finish of it hanging in the shop.  I also picked up the 4 Mouton de Saisons by Tra La La,  I had seen them a while back on another Blog and just had to have them.  I also picked up an older chart from Paulette "Plum Street Samplers."  I found lots of OOP and HTF charts in the bins and could have made a killing on the Bay of evil, but just left them for others to find.

______________

Before I left I took part in the ABC Exchange over at the HOE and while I was away mine was delivered and so I had a great treat to return to....  My partner was Erin over at "Fairy Tales and French Knots."  I actually had quite a few packages ( I like to shop online) awaiting my return to work so I waited until I got home to open them all.  Here's a snap of what Erin made and sent...

... a lovely little miniature basket - the alphabet is from With my Needle's "Eliza's Pyn Pillow" stitched over 1 and 28ct natural linen using some over dyed floss. and finished as a basket topper -  the inside is finished with a little wee cushion.  It is a super piece and I do thank you so much Erin!!!!

A Stitchin' Post

Gentle Friends it was a long relaxing weekend and now I'm "Back in the saddle" so to speak....  I did miss the Blog and my Blog friends, but like the weekends I vowed to not touch a computer the entire time I was away, and I didn't!!
_______________

Since this Blog did start out because of stitching, and it seems to me that I rarely post stitching stuff, I am happy to be able to devote this Post to only stitchin.....  I heard from Jayne over at "Jaynes Stitching Tales" that the ornament I made for her had arrived so it will be the first thing I will show. I made it for the HOE Prairie Schooler Ornament Exchange....

... It is "Snow Day" from Book 177 "January."  It was a really fun piece to make and so reminded me of growing up in Maryland and the Snow Days we had and all the sledding we did, usually using saucer sleds made out of metal, I think aluminum.  You soap up the bottom and they would fly like the wind down the "big hill" of snow - that bottomed out into giant fields so you could keep going and going
____________

I worked quite a bit on the Winter sampler I started last week and have gotten all the words finished....

.... if you remember I am making this a bit bigger than charted to fit the antique frame I have, so I had to tweak the letters/words as I went along.  It is stitching up a bit faster than I thought it would so I pulled together another project - another sampler and all beautifully Fall.....called "Feast of Friendship" I pulled a great piece of my ever dwindling pile of BoaF linen "Barn Owl" and all the over dyed floss and so it's ready to go whenever I am.

Wrapping up the Week - Thrifting and Stitching

Gentle Friends we've made it to another another Friday and the weekend is here.  We really have no plans - just the usual running around, stopping off for breakfast somewhere, dealing with the grocery store and then on to the thrift/consignment shops.  I got emails for at least two Estate Sales I may have to stop in and check out.  Today let me catch you up on last weeks Thrift/Consignment/Estate Sale buys....

.... at an Estate Sale there were a few shelves of DVD's that I couldn't resist.  Most of them were of the "Horror/Comic Book Action/Thriller" Genre so I passed on the bulk of titles, but the ones I did pick up I am happy with.  I also found a book and a cookbook from the great Masterpiece Series "Upstairs Downstairs."  It is written as if Mrs. Bridges wrote them, there are little antidotes from the show, a fun little book - and Rico found the nice Icon of St Paul - over all a pretty good haul.
______________________

I took part in an HOE Ornament Exchange and my partner, Lynn - from over at OK Stitching News That Counts - The only parameter in the Exchange was that it be a Prairie Schooler Design, and Lynn picked a wonderful design.....

... this is the Church from Book 14 "Holiday Homestead" - it is stitched on a piece of stash linen using the recommended DMC thread, and filled with the most delicious lavender from Lynn's on garden.  What a super piece and it will look great with all my stitched ornaments.  Thanks so much Lynn!!!!
__________________

...... and I thought I would leave off the week with an quick update snap of the LK "Hallowe'en Mystery" sampler.....

... as you can see I made a slight change in the flowers, they are supposed to be done in the light "Honeysuckle" floss, but that was not working for me so I just frogged the pale yellow and then finished them off with the "Bullfrog" that the main stem was done in - and now they don't pop off the linen.  it looks like I am getting down to all that satin stitching and attaching the bits and pieces, it wont be long before I have this sucker all wrapped up.

That's about it for today sports fans, thanks for stopping by do stop again.... have a super weekend!!

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends sorry to have not posted yesterday, but I was working on something for Nicola over at "Nicola's Scarlet Letter Year" SAL.

Today I'll post a couple of things, first up will be the HOE Summer Exchange piece I made for Linda, and here's a snaperoo...

... it arrived safe and sound.  I made a little Pyn Keepe, called "Bird Tree" by The Goode Huswife.  I left off the little poem.  I stitched it on a piece of 36ct Vintage something, using the recommended DMC Floss.  It so reminds me of Summer, and you just can't beat the Goode Huswife for a super design.  I finished it off with some trim from Nancy over at Victorian Motto, and a little Mother of Pearl heart on top.  I loved the way it turned out and Linda liked it, so that's what counts!!
_______

Now, a little update on my Hallowe'en Branch...

....   I am really enjoying this piece more that I thought I would, just a totally fun piece to work on!!  I made an order for some different sized and coloured buttons so that when I get the stitching done I can add those.  This is sold as a kit, but I borrowed these charts and so I needed to find other buttons for finishing - lets hope they will work out when they arrive......

A Great Mail Day!! and a Film

Gentle Friends nothing warms the heart so much as getting fun mail from Stitching Buddies!!  - and - my cup runneth over yesterday as I received two super packages....  I waited until I got home to open them and get some snaps...

One of the packages was a super sweet RAK and the other was an HOE Exchange Piece...

I had been forewarned that the RAK was on its way from Catherine and it arrived yesterday...

..... and the package contained the pattern by LHN "Robin Hood," a skein of some lovely green floss from Nancy over at Victorian Motto, a lovely piece of sparkly linen and in a a great WIP zipper bag, thank you so very much Catherine!!!
____________________

The Exchange piece was part of the Summer 2013 Exchange - and was from Marie, the Exchange was to stitch something of Summer.... and I received....

... a super Candle Mat, designed by Prairie Grove Peddlers called "Lighthouses."  Now, I need to go get a great Summer inspired candle to put on it!!  Thank you so much Marie for such a beautifully stitched a finished piece for the Season!!!
_____________

I also saw an most interesting film last night.  When I plopped it on my Netflix Queue after reading some of the reviews, I thought I would only have to give 30 to 45 minutes then pop out of the player.....  however  it turned out much differently.  The film is an independent film called "Cloud Atlas" - 2012 - starring Tom Hanks and Halle Berry...

... and consists of 6 interconnected stories, that take place spanning different time periods,  from the South Pacific of 1849 forward and across time to the year 2321, 106 winters after the Fall.  I was totally fascinated by this film and enjoyed it immensely.  You really have to pay attention to everything and everyone as it jumps back and forth in the narrative.  I will certainly see it again and will probably buy a copy at some point, I enjoyed it that much.  I can see it might not be for every one, and it is about 3 hours long, but I think it is well done and worth a look.  The story was taken from the 2004 novel of the same name written by, David Mitchell.

A Thanksgiving Exchange

Gentle Friends thanks for all your great comments and emails!!  With the weather once again changing here in the Bay area with the rain coming back, it is great to have such warm nice things to read in the morning!!
______________

Yesterday the mail guy, Edward, brought me a box of wonderfulness.  I knew what was in it from the return address and from this cute picture...

.... on the label, a great turkey!!  I saved the box to open taking it home so that I could really enjoy opening it up.

The Hoe Exchange had stipulated a Pyn keep Finish with a turkey included in the design.  My partner Michelle, from over at Mostly Stitching, sent a super package!!  Here's a snap...

With the wonderful Pyn Keepe, there were some lovely Fall glass leaves, and a really cute pumpkin!!  As you can see in the top right corner a who hound hoof - I get lots of help sometimes when I am within 2 feet of the floor.  Here is a close up of the pyn keepe..

The chart is by Pririe Schooler and called "Thanksgiving Comes Again "  Book 141. I just LOVE this chart and have stitched it twice for others, but never for myself.  Now, I have this gorgeous piece to add to my Fall Basket  - with the wee corn button finishing off the top it couldn't be more perfect!!!  Thank you so much Michelle!!!!

Ornaments and Thrifting....

Gentle Friends thank you all so very much for all your kind comments and emails about my November Cottage - these Cottages are such fun and quick stitches!!
__________

Yesterday the mail brought me a great package with my HOE Hometown Ornament Exchange from my partner, Lynn.  Instead of a single Ornament I received a super exchange with Two Lovely Ornaments.  Here are some snaps....

This beauty was designed by Lindy Jane and is filled with crushed walnuts and lavender buds...  and

......  this totally cute (I do love reindeer) design is called "Ribbon Reindeer."  The design is from "Daffycat Designs."  They are both stitched on opalescent linen using the recommended floss - and - have lovely beading around the edges!!  They are really darling and will look great on my stitched Christmas Tree.  Thank you so very much Lynn!!!!
____________

On Saturday we did the run around town through the Thrift - Consignment - Junque Shops and even got to an Estate Sale.  There wasn't much, but I found a few things....

From l to r - an interesting looking novel called "The Queen's Bastard" - based on the rumour that
Elizabeth I had a child by Robert Dudley, a large set of "Cabin" glass cream and sugar.  I really didn't need these, but they were so unusual I had to have them - and - I found another piece of sterling silver, this time a small tray - for $1 - now for a buck I couldn't go wrong!!

Some Stitching Stuff

Gentle Friends thanks again for stopping by my little Blog.  The weekend was quite nice, as it continued to get cooler Friday and Saturday...  after our couple of days of warm weather.  And, last night it started to rain!!  WooHoo!!  I love the cold and rain and now the Fall has set in - I think our winter has begun a bit early, I can enjoy the Autumnal weather!!  As you know I am a bit off my nut and odd, but I do love the cold wet weather we have out here.
____________

After running our regular errands Saturday morning and Thrifting/Estate Saleing - then getting some chores around the house done I settled in to finish up November Cottage.  I eventually completed it but not after changing my mind about a dozen time on some of the colours.....  here's a snap....

As you can tell I did away with all the pink and shades of pink settling on a gold and yellow theme.  Since October was all shades of orange I thought it would be nice to have the golds represented.  The floss conversion was as follows...

I did end up using some of the recommended DMC 436 for the acorn bodies and the Turkey body, for the ground I used my lightest skein of GAST Brandy.  I used 3031 for the acorn caps and the other recommended places, I used DMC B5200 as the white.  For Harvest Moon my conversion was to CC Sassy Brass - the leaves I used Sassy Brass and CC Amber Waves.  I kept the WDW Mocha and WDW Kudzu and converted WDW Grapefruit to WDW Indian Summer.  Over all I am very happy with the results.  Here's an overall shot of the piece.....

Now on to December Cottage, lots of snow and fir trees!!!
_______________

I heard from Carol, that my HOE "Hometown Ornament" arrived.  Here's a snap...

I could have chosen California or one of these... Mississippi, Maryland or even North Carolina... as they have all been my scenes of my hometown at one time in the past!!  But, I ended up choosing a Florida themed ornament.  The design is from Nouveau Encore Designs and was a great piece to work on!!  Worked into the design are a palm tree, flamingo and "Star Fish:"  - as little symbols of Florida.  I used the recommended floss and stitched it on a piece of mystery 32ct linen.

A RAK, an Exchange and some Stash

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends thank you for all your kind comments  - as always I so appreciate them and enjoy reading them.  I am falling way behind in my Blog reading and commenting.
_____________

I had some super mail arrive yesterday.  So in order of arrival........

A few weeks ago I loaned out a little chart from my Heap o'Stash and when the chart was returned there were some goodies along with it...

I love me some cheese straws!!  - and - the hank of silk is simply gorgeous!!  It was so sweet of Vera to send along these treats.  I do know how hard some OOP charts are to find, I never mind helping out other stitchers with a loan of them!!
______________

The other day I showed you the Fall exchange piece that I made and sent off - well, mine arrived yesterday and it's super cute!!!  Marie was partner, her Blog Creative thread is really wonderful and so worth a look!!  Here are a couple of snaps.....

This is the Acorn she made me from Prairie Schooler Book #65, it is stitched 1 over 1 and is just darling.  I love Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims with the little wee Turkey are so great!!!

Along with the super Acorn were some pretty terrific treats!!  Thank you so much Marie, you did another stupendous job!!!!!!
____________

As you know, I can barely help myself from buying stash.  It's a crazy illness!!  But, I have cut way back, or at least I tell myself that.  A while back I was perusing the Bay of evil and came across a couple of pieces of linen I couldn't resist.....  I also came up against another stitcher "downsizing"  (which I should do )  and couldn't resist a little something there either!!

The two pieces of linen are from "Stitches and Spice" a company in Australia.  I have never seen nor stitched on this brand.  But, a chart I have calls for some and I have hemmed and hawed over it for a couple of years whether or not to get a piece to work with.  Well, this looked like the opportunity to jump in and so I did - The linen is really lovely and I will not hesitate again about this brand!!  I got a great piece of "Camofudge" and a piece of " Sugar Cane Crunch."  The chart I acquired was a "Pocketbook Needlework" booklet from one of my favorite OOP designers Mary Beale!!

A Little bit of Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, here's a snap of where I left off on my new stitch... I am just moving along ain't I?? (can you read the sarcasm??)...
