PRIDE

Ugh!   It's so subtle; you don't realize you've fallen victim.  It creeps in unannounced, quietly sits itself down and you hardly notice.

I bought this transfer-ware soup bowl at the thrift store recently and have had no end of enjoyment from it,  for the few dollars I spent.  The floral detail is beautiful, very old (the mark indicates between 1894 and 1907, and from Staffordshire, England.  I decided on a practical use for it: morning oatmeal.

Or so I thought.  I was moving this massive oatmeal jar to the other side of the counter and it slipped and fell on the bowl, shattering it.  All gone.

Immediately the scripture "Pride goes before the fall" came up in my spirit and I was heartily convicted.  So much so that I couldn't feel bad over the loss.  Only grateful that the Father cares so much that He would check my heart and reel me in.

The scripture actually says,"Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall."  Even worse \~"

(By the way, destruction means breaking, fracture, crushing, crash, ruin, shattering.  Yup, that was destruction.)

Being thankful and grateful is the right heart attitude, not pride.  I'm checking in to see if there's anything else. Sigh.

P.S.  I salvaged a shard from the trash this morning
to put in a plant on the kitchen sink.
A reminder:

Blessed be the name of the Lord
The Father of Lights
Who illuminates the heart
and sets it aright

NEW BEGINNINGS

BEHOLD,
I will do a new thing.
Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

Isa. 43:19

No matter our circumstances, God is in the midst of them ready to lead us to higher ground.  Be encouraged, this is the year of BEHOLD!  God is on our side.

Oh Mr. Lincoln

I'm not much of a gardener ~ that pleasure falls to hubby ~ but I certainly do enjoy our roses.  When we moved into this house the yards were bare,  and one of the first things we did was plant  Mr. Lincoln.

Here's what All About Roses has to say about this wonderful rose

  • Most popular dark red rose
  • Exquisitely huge fragrance
  • Tough, reliable and very tall bush
  • Ideal cut rose for flower arrangement
I whole-heartedly agree!

HAPPY SPRING

Mr. McGregor and I are weeding, moving stuff around, and getting ready to plant some color.
Then some serious porch-sitting on my $2-dollar-yard-sale wicker chair.
Hope you all are fairing well, where ever you are.
Spring Blessings!

Junque Mountain

I can't escape it.  Everywhere I go there's junque!

In my mind, there's a difference between plain "junk" and good "junque".  Junk is stuff that's one step away from going in the trash.  But Junque...it has character and charm, and maybe even value.

On a recent trip to our fishing cabin on the Old Colorado River, I took some time to gaze at an amazing collection of desert finds our neighbor has gathered over the years.

He's searched in and around many of the old mining sites
in the foothills to find reminders of days gone by,
then hauled his booty back home in his jeep,
and added it to the hill that stands behind our houses.

Some of it is placed artistically

While other pieces seem to be thrown down.

Either way, it makes for fascinating entertainment
in a place where there's nothing to do but fish or read.

Wouldn't you love to know why this giant plastic tusk was abandoned in the desert?

Hubby speculates it was from an old movie set.  One with a large plastic elephant.
Doesn't ring a bell.

Who needed a paper cutter out there?

Some things add up.

Other's don't.

I wonder if the cars are buried in the sand somewhere out there?

Most of the tools are HUGE.

I called Pizza Man over to check out the size of this horseshoe.
It was GIANT, and must have come from a Clydesdale or Percheron.

Hubby was busy moving dirt to fill in a gully that was created during a flash flood.

I'll leave you to look at some more of this good junque.
I'm off to address the junque mountain in my garage.

HAPPY 2014

Happy New Year beautiful friends ~
We're heading to our little cabin at the river this week.  A nice way to recoup from the holiday season ~ which was wonderful, by the way.

So much has already happened since Christmas, including our son and DIL getting into a car accident. We're grateful and thankful they were not more seriously hurt than they were, although it's going to be a while before they're "good as new".
