Rose hips

Hello friends, I'd like to tell you about my dabbling's with rose hips. It started back in August when I noticed these juicy hips growing outside my kitchen window.

Curiosity got the better of me and I decided to pick some. They are prickly little blighters I can tell you.

After a little bit googleing I decided to try and make some rose hip tea. "Rich in vitamin C "the computer told me, well I could certainly do with a bit of that.

After a lot of boiling and stewing I was looking forward to my first taste. But sadly I was very disappointed, it was disgusting!. Apologies to any rose hip tea enthusiasts out there, but it just wasn't my cup of tea(get it?) I began to think that they weren't rose hips at all, and that I'd actually picked some lethally poisonous buds. My family would return home to find me on the kitchen floor clutching my tea cup.

Any way I didn't want my efforts to go to waste, so I decided to dry them out over the summer months. Now they're all shrivelled, and beautiful shades of red, orange and brown. Perfect for an Autumn project.

I gathered some Autumn goodies on my desk.

Conkers, pine cones, little mushrooms and dried squashes.

Glue gun at the ready, and off I go.

Ta- da !

A little close up,

I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

I had quite a few hips left over so I decided to make a garland too.

It has turned out a little bit Christmassy, but I don't mind, I decided to hang her up anyway.

Wishing you a lovely weekend x.

Ooh such BEAUTIFUL autumn crafts. That garland is just so lovely and the wreath! I need a lie down (under a nice snuggly quilt of course to keep the chill off.

That is beautiful Bertie and I would say more autumnal, but could double up for christmas so a double bonus.

I do remember as a kid though splitting open rosehips and using the inside as itching powder so the tea wouldn't of done it for me either - apologies to any rosehip tea drinkers too.

Have a lovely weekend,

Nina x

It looks great! Those aren't real mushrooms, are they? They look too big and perfect...

I really love the little sewn burlap pieces you added...adds a little 'something'

We used to collect rosehips as children and take them to school. They were collected by some manufacturer, I assume the school received some payment, to be made into rosehip syrup which was both delicious and full of vitamin C.

Fabulous wreath Bertie. So much better than the foul sounding tea. I'm biased as I hate the smell of normal tea.

Gorgeous Bertie!! I had a horse, who helped himself to a full bush of those very hips once, I panicked and phoned the vet, thinking he would have serious tummy ache(tummy ache, is very bad for horses). The vet said rose hips are good for them, and not to be hysterical!!
Why do we worry!!

Wow, really beautiful. Such lovely, lovely colours. A much better use of the rose hips me thinks! Sam x

Wow! Wonderful wreath! How did you dry out the rosehips? And the little mini pumpkins - where did you get those? So cute!

Your post was interesting as I think there must be two types of rosehip variety. I googled it and it appears to be so. There are the ones you have and ones which are more narrow and pointy. I'd heard that rosehip syrup was the rage so that is what I think I'll do when I finally get a chance to dabble like yourself - maybe you'd find that more enjoyable than the tea?

Love your effort though and like I said - very jealous of your beautiful wreath! xxx

Ooooooh, please mail that to me. I love it all. You are so talented...I wished you would post every day! a question...did you sew the little shapes? and where did you find the mushrooms? did you dry those as well?

PS...I only drink black tea...Liptons. I am so boring! Laughed when you said you were worried about your family finding you clutching your teacup..very funny.
