Where do you get your Inspiration from?

Sometimes things on pinterest and magazines catch my eye and they get filed in my head for a rainy day.

Reading one of my favourite French crafty magazines, Marie Claire Idees - October 2012  I saw a cute little black board map of France.

and all the vintage school maps started popping up everywhere - which I really liked too

and I cant forget to mention Pip Lincoln who made an embroidery version of an Australian Map

and then I meet Annabel Wrigley at Portland Quiltmarket this year and saw online her awesome patchwork map of the USA that she was doing with kids.....

and then I jumped on the map bandwagon and made my own Australian version!

and...
Its now happily hanging in my studio

Corduroy and Liberty

I'm on a roll!

Today I whipped together another one of Amy Butler's Nappy bag pattern (no I don't need nappy bags anymore or ever again  - I just like the pattern)

Its actually a really good camera bag and holds my SLR nicely when I'm out and about.

I used a green corduroy for the outside bought from Purl Soho and the feature fabric on the outside is a Liberty of London Tana Lawn.

I looked everywhere locally for corduroy fabric (I was actually after an olive type colour) but couldn't find any!
I also wanted the wider more heavy corduroy but this stuff worked out nicely. Its very fine, thin and soft.

The lining on the inside is two prints of Liberty of London Tana Lawn and a little bit of the green corduroy.

below you can see a picture of the bag turned inside out and the liberty fabric as the lining and the pockets.
The bag is completely reversible so I could have it any way I wanted - really it doesn't matter.

I used wadding as a lining for the pockets to help stiffen it up

Very happy with my new bag!

I bought a few more colours of corduroy and I might make a few more variations...

Its Saturday

and the beginning of the two week school holidays for us folk in Sydney.

During the week last week I braved the cold/ rain to go to the ABCD meet up, really nice to chat to other designers and bloggers. I contributed some fabric to the goodies bags, they looked like they had some great stuff in them - next time I'll RSVP on time and get one myself :) !

Today I'm working on a project magazine story and as usual with most published stuff I cant talk about it etc but I'm really enjoying it.

Like magnets the girls sit around my messy sewing area and "help"

I'm stunned at how clever little people can be when you give them a needle and thread
