prep......

I'm doing some final bits and pieces for my Zig Zag workshops at Calico & Ivy Balmain

Calico & Ivy Day Work Shop

Siobhan’s Zig Zag quilt is perfect for those who have always thought that patchwork would be great, but are a little daunted by the process.

Siobhan will take you through the process of making this large scale quilt in a day, selecting the fabrics, cutting and beginning to piece your quilt top, leaving you with the confidence to complete the top at home. Classes are small, so you will enjoy lots of one on one time with Siobhan. Sewing machine necessary.

Thursday August 18
10.00am - 2.00pm $75.00 (materials not included)

Thursday September 1
10.00am - 2.00pm $75.00 (materials not included)

Still some space if your interested :)

More Fabric

I'm just back from a visit to Calico & Ivy Balmain,
Just Checking stuff for my one day workshop that starts next thursday.
Room for one more! if your interested.
We will be doing a zig zag quilt top.

whilst at Calico & Ivy I was looking for fabric to go around my lone star.

One of my fav fabrics designers Nani IRO is now being stocked at Calico & Ivy, I usually order it online through DuckCloth and even then I tend to miss out as it goes sooo fast!

I also got a chambray and pinkish shot cotton. Now to decide!

I also picked up the pre made binding :)

This Fabric (also Nani IRO) is destined to be a dress or skirt?

I bought this book a few weeks ago online at Tessuti

I'm off to do some prep for my classes tonight & tomorrow morning at Hobby Sew Top Ryde

Has anyone seen the New Down Under Quilt's Magazine???
I'm in it!

bags & bags

I'm not usually very good at following patterns - hence why I just make stuff up myself :)

but..... I saw this bag hanging at Calico & Ivy Balmain and figured it looked simple enough and bought the pattern (Amy Butler Nappy Bag). Hay presto! one bag made.

I left off all the fancy pockets and changed the handle to suit me - but all and all I followed the pattern. Very quick to come together, I was very surprised!

on another note I still haven't done the binding on my Union Jack king size quilt, one day.......... It's on the list, I actually have  about 5 quilts to bind :( I need a binding fairy.

Getting organised - holidays are over!

As the winter school holidays draw to a close  I'm planning my next term of activities & jobs that need doing.

This term I'll be offering two one day workshops at Calico & Ivy Balmain and the focus will be on Zig Zag Quilts!

Thursday 18th August 10am - 2pm
Thursday 1st Sept 10am - 2pm

Give Calico & Ivy a call to book in.

I'll also be teaching a beginners quilting course at Hobby Sew Top Ryde thursday evenings and Friday mornings.

If your unable to get to any of the classes, I'm starting a Lone Star quilt along soonish. I have started a flickr group for people to join and expect to be up and running with info in the next week.

Did I mention I'm going to London, Paris & Rome in October this year?
any major Quilting things/ places info would be much appreciated or if you have a shop that would like a workshop/ class give me a bell.

More on that trip later

freshen up

I've been ploughing away on two quilts for two different magazines and another project with a magazine that has a set colour story for a feature - which two weeks ago was very exciting, but now I feel I'm in a bit of a creative rut.

Sooo I rummaged through my stash and broke out some new colour, It's done me the world of good, different colours different patterns and some fabric I have been waiting to use.

All refreshed and ready to go back and finish the important works and meet my deadlines.

hopefully then Everyone will be happy.

Helps if the camera is set to colour

I went with half triangles in two fabrics. The linen and smiley is Heather Ross and the circle dots I bought recently at Calico & Ivy in the Balmain Sydney store, I also bought the same fabric in a purple and yellow - very nice :)

It's nice and gentle yet has a  bit of colour

I'll keep going with this one over the weekend and see how big it gets

on another note here is more of my Spoonflower designed fabrics. This one is printed on a white cotton canvas and has a dark grey repeated pattern, great at matching in.

I'm off to revel in my productive mood

Family coming to visit from Ireland over the weekend which I'm looking forward to.

A few projects on the hop that need to be finished and most exciting - I'll be teaching a class at Calico & Ivy Balmain next term, so I'm doing my prep work for the class.
My Classes will be on a Thursday 10:30 - 1:30 and fortnightly (five classes all up).

Calico & Ivy

The class list etc will be emailed out to everyone on the email list later this week, so sign up if your not already on the email list - not many places in the classes so you will need to be quick sticks or you'll miss out.
I picked up some lovely Liberty of London fabric today from Calico & Ivy Balmain. I'm starting to do my examples for the class and I will be using the Liberty Fabric.

Below are the Quilts we will be working on,The class is still being nutted out a bit - but I want to encourage Improv Quilting using simple shapes and also looking at structure and colour  technique in the log cabin.

Scrappy Quilt - Improv

Be Square Quilt - Log Cabin

for more info in regard to class content check out Calico & Ivy towards the end of the week.
These quilts suit both beginner and Advance students. The possibilities are endless.
