Hope House Home for Boys

The cards that I sell here in Chapala and Ajijic, Mexico benefit the dental program for the boys at Hope House in the nearby village of Ixlahuacan. There are close to 30 boys at the home and many of them come to the home having received no dental treatment. If you live here at Lakeside and would like to order a quality, hand crafted card for a special occasion and help me contribute to this worthy cause, please e-mail me at bettyinchapala@yahoo.com Card price is 50 pesos; the entire sales price is donated to Hope House.

More Snowflakes

I have another snowflake card today. I have used the sketch from Merry Monday #17 shown below... I'll also have to to check at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown and see if I can enter a second card there.

Most of my supplies are from Stampin' Up -- all except the ivory card base and ribbon. I used a seafoam white embossing powder for the snowflakes and sentiment. The little snowflakes on the sentiment tag are rub-ons from SU; the partial snowflake was a "happy" accident -- it was supposed to go on the other side but I like the "home" that it found for itself! The ribbon wraps around the card and there's another snowflake on the inside where the ribbon edges meet. Tools used were SU circle punches, a Martha Stewart border punch and Spellbinder's Ribbon Tags Trio 2.

Hope you all have a wonderful day and no real snowflakes -- our weather is beautiful here today. I have all the doors open with a wonderful breeze coming into the house and I'm looking out at a day filled with sunshine and colorful hibiscus, oleander and other miscellaneous flowers in the garden. A friend gave me some cuttings from a pencil cactus in her yard and they all have new little shoots on them. I had pencil cactus (cacti?) in Texas and am glad that I was able to find some here. Now I just need some purple iris!!

By for now,

A Snowflake Challenge

I made this card today for the challenge at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown; they are having a theme challenge and the theme is Snowflakes. I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder (from a set called Winter Wonderland) to dry emboss the dark blue panel with snowflakes and a Stampin' Up Christmas stamp to heat emboss another snowflake with white powder.

Now, just like Melina's challenges at Twisted Tuesday, my card has a twist to it -- it was made with a "springy thingy"!

Here is a link to a video to show you how to make your own springy thingy. My friend Ruthie brought me some 26 gauge beading wire from her recent trip to the U.S. and I am going to demonstrate how to make a "springy thingy" at our next stamping group meeting on May 5. I think this technique is going to be a hit; should be able to make some fun birthday cards -- I can just see cute little animals springing up to say "Happy Birthday"!!

Glory to God in the Highest

A couple of things to share before I get to my card for today ....

Linda McClain at The Catered Crop has a fun quiz today based on the color RED. I missed three of the questions so I didn't score too well, but it was lots of fun. Click on the link and take the quiz yourself and then let me know how you did!!

I'm excited to be the winner for the Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge #156 for my card Glad Tidings of Peace -- not only do I have another Christmas card ready for Dec. 2012, but I have a credit at their store and I've been drooling over that new Calla Lily set -- guess who's going to be placing an order??

I've got another Christmas card today -- it's for the challenge at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown to use angels, and my layout is from the sketch at Card Positioning Systems, #253.

The stamps are Layers of Color, Angelic and Glad Tidings. Colored pencils and baby oil were used to color the image and a Spellbinders Nestability to cut out the yellow paper with the setiment. Added some light yellow pearls (small and medium) along with a reddish-burgundy background that was punched with my newest Martha Stewart corner punch that is part of a go around the page set.

Hope you all have a red-letter day!!

Red, Gold and Green

I have a Christmas card to share today, made from the color combo at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown and the sketch challenge at Card Positioning Systems 5th Anniversary Day 14. To the sides are the color challenge and sketch challenge photos:

My ornament image from Stubby Stampers was stamped with Versamark Ink and embossed with gold powder, then painted with reinkers. I managed to get outside the lines so I had to fussy cut the ornament and pop it up on the white panel which was sponged with Stampin' Up So Saffron. The metallic gold and red papers were  both embossed with Cuttlebug embossing folders -- both the white and gold panels were cut out with Nestability Long Scalloped Rectangle dies. A strip of ribbon and a bow tied with the same ribbon completes this card.

The anniversary festivities are nearing an end for Card Positioning Systems. I have discovered just how much I enjoy their sketches so will be using them to jump start my card making in the future! Deadline to enter your cards for the sketch challenges will be February 18 -- so you still have plenty of time to get your cards made and entered. Prizes for individual sketch winners and the grand prize winner (for someone who has entered all 15 challenges) will be announced on Feb. 24.

Still cold, rainy and windy -- please come back, 70 degree temperatures!!

Rejoice

Challenges Entered:
52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown -- Use at least three sparkly rhinestones
Crazy 4 Challenges -- Layer it On! use lots of layers and embellies
Sugar Creek Hollow -- Color combo of Cream, Blue and Brown
Do You Stack Up -- Use ribbons
Speedy Fox and Friends -- Use at least four layers
Repeat Impressions WHAT IF Wed. Sketch Challenge

I'm digging down into my stash of papers and trying to use different ones. These papers come from an old Stampin' Up designer paper pack that I inherited from a cousin years ago. I got so much paper at that time that it's hard to use even a little bit from each pattern! I really have NO NEED whatsoever to buy patterned paper but somehow it just calls my name and pulls me in!!

The stamp is from Layers of Color, Christmas Verses.

For embellishments I've used light blue rhinestones, flowers, ribbon, lace and a Martha Stewart branch punch.

This is my second post today. If you'd like to see my card for the Roses' January 2012 Challenge, please see previous post.

Thanks for your visit,
Betty
