Home alone

Can't believe it's already mid December. Again. I am home alone, trying desperately to finish up things that need to be done before my leave next week. The kids, thankfully are at my parents', no doubt enjoying their freedom from the parents' rules and regulations. The hubby is away again. I thought I'd be able to do my work faster without the kids to distract me, but hmm...not really. It feels a bit weird not having them around after a week. The house seems very quiet that even the cockroaches have started to come out of their hidings.

So I've been missing my family, and though I've been forcing myself to work really hard, the progress is not as fast as I'd like it to be :(. I ended up distracting myself with candle pics today. Christmas candles, for I suddenly look forward to christmas. A day of joy, a day of love, and lots of merry-making when it comes to my family.

I hope your christmas is going to be filled with happy memories this year.

Korea vacation countdown

Phew...phew, phew...Finally done with marking, the nightmare season of most teachers. Can't say it's an easy thing to do. Especially with essays. But it's finally over and yours truly is so relieved. Now I can start my vacation countdown. This time around, to Korea. Yippee, taking off in 5 days. Not that my work file is cleared...but it never will. So might as well take a well-deserved vacation. 8 days in freezing Korea, including a night or two in the ski resort. Might even get to build a snowman and name it a fancy name...

Some say it's a bad time to go to Korea now. But, heck, it couldn't be that bad. The war is happening far far away from my destination. Correction, our destination (kids can't be left out, can they?). But my hearts says it's going to be ok, so ok it would be. I so want to believe that it's all in the mind set.

Counting the days. Getting really excited. First destination: Teddy Bear Museum...Happy holidays everyone.

Penguin Island

Finally got to see the penguins. Since it is the kids' school holidays, I thought it's the right time to go. After all, the island is going to be closed for visitors in July.

The short ferry ride from the jetty in Rockingham to Penguin Island was exciting for the kids. The poor darlings have never been on a boat before. They found it so much fun I didn't have the heart to tell them it's not the 'real thing' since the water was very shallow and the distance was very short. It took only a few minutes to get there.

There were only 10 penguins in the discovery centre, little and quiet. It's an experience to see them being fed. It's amazing that no matter how alike they look, each had a different temperament that showed during the feeding. One could see that some of them were actually bossy, some babyish and yet, some were just shy they had to be gently coaxed to eat. Not that much different from people...

I was a bit dissapointed not to have seen any wild penguins though. Must have been hiding in their comfy nests. I would if I were them. Wasn't that fun to have so many people poking their noses on one's business :-).
