St Patrick’s Day in Savannah, Georgia
Savannah has been celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with parade since 1825. What started out as a modest affair has turned into one of the biggest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the country. Savannah’s parade draws crowds of over 400,000 people.
Dying the city’s fountains green is one of the traditions unique to the city. Seeing the green fountains, as spring starts creeping up on the Georgia city is one of the most enjoyable sights you can witness.

Wow, Susan,
ReplyDeleteI have never seen green water come out of a fountain before, does it stain the statues?
Happy St Patricks Day,
What a wonderful Jolly Saint he was, everyone smiles when his named is mentioned.
and Happy Outdoors Wednesday.
xx Coty
I have heard about them turning the water in the fountains green, but have never seen it.
ReplyDeleteChicago and San Antonio dye their rivers green. It's appropriate that Savannah would dye their fountains green, such in integral part of the city. This looks like so much fun! Kathy
ReplyDeleteHi Susan,
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a lot of fun! I just love a good parade! And that green fountain water is pretty crazy!! We don't really do much for St. Patrick's day around here, but I am going to fix my first Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner tomorrow. Minus the green mashed potatoes!
Hope you are having a great week. Thanks for hosting!

ReplyDeleteThis is the time of year that I really miss working in downtown Manhattan - so many Irish pubs down there with live music and serving corned beef and cabbage for lunch. And lets not forget the green bagels for breakfast! LOL

ReplyDeleteNow how about that, a green colored water fountain. Cool.
ReplyDeleteHow fun Susan! Happy St. Patrick's Day ♥
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I'm going to have to put this on my list to attend a St.Patrick's Day parade :0)
ReplyDeleteGreen water? Seriously? You guys celebrate everything don't you. Lol.
ReplyDeleteI think there were some shamrock shaped cookies at the grocery store today but that is about it. Not a huge celebration here unless you count drinking beer as celebrating it.
Gees! Is it StPatrick's Day already? quite neat how they made green water from the fountain.
ReplyDeleteFun and festive pictures!!
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks so much fun!
ReplyDeleteLooks like FUN!!! I think I will have to eat a corned beef sandwich tomorrow! Happy Patty's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! It looks like you had a grand time at the parade. Here in Chicago the River turns green for the St. Patrick's Day parade. My "fav" photo is the green water coming out of the fountain. How kewel is that?

Hi Susan,
ReplyDeleteI posted about the wonderful St Patrick's Day Parade in Savannah earlier this week, I'd love it if you popped over to Normandy to see it, if you get the chance.
~Maggie~
I wore green with other teachers, and I explained to my interntional students in my ESL class what St patrick's day is. My colleague is Pat, she explained why she is called Pat. Today is her birthday, her dad called her patricia.
ReplyDeleteOhh...I've always wanted to visit Savannah.
ReplyDeleteHappy Saint Patrick's Day!

ReplyDeleteA wonderful joyous celebration.
ReplyDeleteHappy St. Patrick's Day and Happy Outdoor Susan.
That is pretty cool. Sounds like it would be so much fun to attend the St. Patrick's Day parade. Amazing how large it has gotten over the years. The practical side of me wonders how they keep the statues from turning green.
ReplyDeleteHappy St. Patrick's Day!
