Paradise in August - Mini and Tutorial

Hi everyone, today I'm sharing a collaboration between ReneaBouquet and Crafty City Design Teams.  I made a mini using ReneaBouquets Treasure Box 1 and Crafty City's Mintay Paradise Paper collection and Prima flowers to match.

There are blog posts on both ReneaBouquet and Crafty City so I won't repeat myself here.  What I did want to share is I have a 3 video tutorial series uploading to YouTube as I write this.  On the videos I'll share the how tos of creating this project.  I hope you'll take a look at the playlist .

Let's have a look at the videos included on the Playlist

The Walk-Through of the finished mini

Video 1 - Construction and Coloring

I also wanted to tell you about using Sookwang Tape in the Construction of this mini.  It's wonderful.  (There's a link and discount code at the bottom of this post to the Sookwang Tape Etsy store).

I used various sizes to adhere my pages and flips, flaps, mats and tags

When construction the outside I used the Sookwang tape to adhere my cover cardstock to the chipboard, I've not found a stronger tape!

Mitering the corners cuts down on bulk and results in a much nicer finish

I used the same color to mat the inside, Bazzill Smoothie Ocean Breeze

Video 2 - Construction of the flip and flaps throughout.

Portfolio Tutorial Playlist!

Hi everyone, my playlist is up and running for the Lavender Mist Portfolio Tutorial Series.  There are seven tutorial videos and one walk through video.  I have listed under the video and on the video thumbnail the number of the video and what it covers.  If you're hunting for a certain aspect of the portfolio hopefully this will keep you from having to go through all seven videos to find it.   See the bottom of post for Supply List and most measurements used.

As always if you have any questions just pop me off an email and I'll get right back to you.  At the time of posting this was created using a kit from Crafty City with Stamperia's Provence paper, but any paper and embellishments could be used in its place!

Enjoy and happy crafting, if you make something using my portfolio directions I'd love for you to share with me.  Patti

                                         Supply List
Lavender Mist Kit
Sookwang (Scor) Tape
Art Glitter Glue
Purple Tulle
Magnets
White seam binding dyed lavender
Optional - I used an additional partial pack of Stamperia Provence Paper
4 sheets solid 12" for wrapping and matting inside
23-25 sheets 12" solid for matting, backing etc.  I used 3 shades of lavender
2 sheets medium weight chipboard

Cutting Guide for Chipboard (Video 1)
1 - 8 1/2" x 10 1/2" for back
2 - 1 1/2" x 10 1/2" for spines
1 - 3 1/2" x 10 1/2" for front right
1 - 5" x 10 1/2" for front left

Wrapping outside and Matting Inside (Video 2)
4 sheets solid 12" for wrapping and matting inside

Inside Waterfall, right side (Video 3)
Measurements for Waterfall flip
Contrast solid cardstock for back strip - 3 1/4" x 10 1/4"

NOTE- Do not cut your decorative mats for the waterfalls until the end then you can use your scraps instead of cutting into full sheets.  Also see *note below about alternative method to completely matting all flips.

Waterfall flips, you will need 14 - solid cardstock -
                each measures 3 1/4" wide x 4 3/4" high
score on the 4 3/4" side @ 1/4" to glue to base strip

Optional depending on the amount of decorative paper you have
You will need 14-28 3" x 4" pieces of decorative paper to mat each flip.  Your choice will be whether to mat inside and out. *If you are low on paper an alternative is to just cut a 3/4" x 4" strip for all but the two top flips (one on bottom, one on top).  You can put just the 3/4" across the bottom (leave 1/4" on side for matting with your solid cardstock).  When the flips are closed, before photos are placed, it will still look as if you matted everything.

The other optional is to mat the 1/4" area between each flip.  As an alternative you can add a strip of solid ribbon here like I did on the outside edges of the portfolio.

Back Insert - Video 4
Inside back mat (decorative paper) 8 3/8" x 10 1/8"
Solid Paper -
Double Middle Pocket in center back - 8" x 11 3/4" score at 5" on short side
Left flip page - 8 1/4"  x 10" score on long side @ 1" to form skinny pocket, score opposite long side @ 1/4" to form tab to glue to book
Right flip page - 7 1/4" x 10", score on long side @ 1/4" to form tab

Left pocket (attached to left flip page)
8 1/4" x 12", score @ 1/4" and 7 1/2" on the long side
Accordion insert 1 12" solid cardstock cut in half and each piece scored at 6"
Accordion joint piece is 1/2" x 6" to join the sections together

Back Insert Matting - Video 5
Top part of pocket - Decorative paper 7 3/4" x whatever length you have, make sure it is deep enough so it covers back when pocket is glued.

Triple mats for two center pockets
Solid 3 3/4" x 4 3/4" and 3 1/2"x 4 1/2" (pick 2 different solids)

Decorative - top mat 3 1/4" x 4 1/4"

Authentique's Stitches Loose Spine Mini

a Country Crafts Creations Design Team Project

Many of you faithful followers will have already seen a condensed version of this mini if you've been following along on my YouTube video tutorial series Loose Spine Mini.  This series consists of 9 process videos walking you through the complete process, step-by-step, page-by-page, of how to make this mini.  Today I'm here with the blog post and video presentation of the finished Mini Album.

Tammy Merrill of Country Craft Creations sent Authentique's Stitches collection to me to play with and it has been fun and a tad nostalgic along the way.  I'm an oldie that learned to sew on my Momma's Singer Treadle machine, that's right the non-electric version.  It was a fantastic way to learn because you had so much control over the speed.  Of course all the fancy-dancy stitches weren't available.  Forward and reverse, just right for a youngster learning.  The Stitches collections brings forward so many of those old memories.  I hope you'll find some great nostalgia in my book as well.

The construction of the mini is with a loose spine and no gussets between the pages.  Unique, easy and fun to make.  I tended to add a few extra pockets and flaps, something that's so easy to do when you are creating but also can leave an alligator mouth on your mini.  I solved that problem by creating this gorgeous belly band to allow for photos and what nots as the mini expands even further.

The mini is six pages total and uses Country Craft Creations Artisan cardstock for the base, belly band and spine.  I did use three coats of Collage Podge (a Mod Podge) on the spine for extra stability. There are six tuck in top mats that measure 4"x5"

You'll find as with most of my minis that there are a lot of options for photos with with tuck in expandable booklets or flips and flaps.  I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo on all the edges.  Most of the tag ties and bows are made with colored Seam Binding from the store.

I did have fun designing a decorative envelope and adding a touch of lace gifted from my talented friend Manuela in Switzerland, you may know her as Bunny Bow on YouTube.  Manuela has sent me so many gorgeous lace items shes crafted with her embroidery machine and I hoard them, I know I'm bad but I do I hoard them.  This time I just had to include this little rosette of lace and yes, I promise Manuela I'll be better going forward, but it's so hard, I love them all.  We crafters are such silly ducks!

I went through my stash of dies and used quite a few throughout the book along with a lot of the stickers and cut aparts from the Stitches collection.

The graphics within this collection are so stunning they lend themselves to being left free to enhance the viewers perspective.  Here you can see I simply cut along the papers image line to create a pocket and continued the paper from left to right on both pages.  Simply stunning images.

I hope you'll walk through the finished book on the video with me.  And if you want to create a mini like this for yourself be sure and check out the video tutorial series as well

Tutorial Series, Loose Spine Mini

Hi everyone, I'm starting a video tutorial series on how to create the spine and framework for the mini I did with Carta Bella's Country Cowboy.  This will be a playlist series on my personal YouTube channel called Loose Spine Mini Tutorial Series.  The first video is the spine construction, the following videos will show ideas to do each page and the final video will be the outer covers and decorations.  I hope I share something new for you to take away and try yourself.  Please subscribe to my YouTube channel so you'll be notified when the next video is live.

Bo Bunny Dreams of Autumn Wide Spine Mini

a Country Craft Creations Design Team Project

Hello crafty friends!  Today I'm so happy to share not only my mini with you but the beginning of a brand new video tutorial series showing the construction and the decoration of the mini.  I'm doing these videos page by page.  It means more videos but it also allows you to only look for the video that shows the construction or decoration of a certain page.  That way you can easily skip the videos that aren't pertinent to what you want to know.  Also, as always, I'll have the complete walk through video so you can see all the how to's and just see what I made.  That's the video that will be listed at the bottom of this blog post.  I have the first four How-To videos uploaded and will turn those live as well all grouped together in a new Playlist called Wide Spine Mini Tutorial Series  Hopefully I've found something for all of you.  If you are a newbie then the videos are presented in such a way that they will be easy for you to follow along allowing you to make your very first mini.  Don't forget I'm only a message away if you get stuck!  So go for it, make your own mini today.  It's so much fun!

This mini measures 6"x7" with a 5" spine, thus the name Wide Spine Mini.  I like using a wide spine this way because the mini actually lays flat on the spine when open.  It allows for an enormous amount of bulky embellishment or hoards of photos to be added.

In order to expand and contract as the contents of the mini grow I choose to use a three-color braided and tied satin ribbon closure.  The three colors of fall just complement the colors of the mini so well.

There are 7 pages in this mini and each page has a 1/2" gusset to allow so much room for all your goodies.  I won't be able to share each page and all the special add ons, flip outs, tuck ins here but they all be shared on the video along with the video construction of the basic page and then a video showing the decoration of each page.  Don't feel you'll be tied to this fabulous paper line it can easily be adapted to any paper collection you're in love with at the moment.  I did this same style of mini, with 1/4" gussets and 14 pages for a wedding mini.  I loved it.  Because of the wide spine the pages still laid the same way.  Wonderful!  (so keep that in mind, by changing the width of the gussets you can easily add many more pages).

You'll find I used my trusty Cutter Bee scissors throughout this mini, fussy cutting lots of elements to use in different ways.  Here I took the bouquet of flowers in the pail and used them as a stopper for the flap.  I originally had intended the brad to act as a swivel to hold the flap closed but it just wasn't tight enough.  It was easily solved by added a magnet on back of the flowers and the including the belly band with a hidden magnet behind it.  There's always a way!

Included in my goodies from Tammy Merrill from Country Craft Creations was an Ephemera package which among many other things had a decorative mat with these gorgeous flowers on them.  I cut them out of the paper and used them throughout the book,  Here they adorn the flap on the left and act as a nice stopper to my cute foxy bookmark holder on the right.

Another of my favorite pages was again using parts from the Ephemera package.  This time I used the little banner for the flap on the left.  I added some leaves along the bottom.  Backing each section with a black Artisan paper from Country Craft Creations allows the elements, like the acorn, to pop.  I use a lot of the Artisan paper since it cuts and scores wonderfully and is the best paper for not cracking.  The mini was covered in the black and the pages are constructed with it.  It is my go to basic paper line.

I always like to look at paper and see what can I take out of it to use in a different way.  That's how the basket came to fruition.  I didn't think I'd be able to use the bicycle with the basket of fall goodies I was able to though as you'll see it became the inside front cover pocket.  I just loved the basket and fussy cut it from the bicycle, added a magnet behind and backed it with the black Artisan paper.  Later I found I could use the whole image on the front inside cover.  I took the part below the basket and attached it on three sides over the bottom paper.  Now I have a great pocket but I still have the whole image of this fall bicycle.  So always look at the images within your page and see what perhaps could be cut out and used somewhere else.  Sometimes the smallest of elements, when cut and backed, can create wonderful little embellishments elsewhere.

I also wanted to tell you to not discard the cover sheet, especially if it is the same weight paper as the cardstock.  Bo Bunny prints their name, the name of their collection and samples of all the papers included in the collection on a 12x12" flysheet for the front of the package.  It was wonderful, I cut it up and used it in numerous spots throughout the book.  Case in point, the little pocket stopper for the center section here is actually the Collection name from this front flysheet.  I'll share several other spots I used parts of this page.  It's like getting and extra sheet of decorative paper.  I wish all companies would use the same paper for this cover sheet often it's a shiny slick paper, this was perfect.

My friends there is just so much more to share with you but space prohibits me here.  Check out the video below for the walk through and if interested check out the Video Tutorial playlist.  I'll be adding the remainder of the videos over the next few days.  As always thank you for sharing your time with me!  I'll include links to Country Craft Creations and to all my social media site below the video.  I've also included my supply list with links to the store.  Don't forget relax, create and enjoy it will make your world such a happier place!

You and Me Making a Mini - Video Tutorial Series

July page features a flip up and down with magnets.

I thought perhaps you'd like to join in on making a mini using the premade album by Heartfelt Creations.  I've got a YouTube series going on right now in which I share a video showing how I create each page.  Since I'm using Graphic 45's Children's Hour collection there will be 12 pages one for each month.  Plus the cover and a few extras.  I've created a Playlist on my channel for ease in finding.

May and June feature lots of tuck in and a gate fold

You are all welcome to join me but I'm doing this series at the request of many crafters who find it easier to watch the whole creation process of pages instead of just a walk through of the finished mini.

March and April share the luscious greens and purples from the collection

So if you're interested here's the latest video - July and
I'll link to the playlist as well

Each additional video for this series will be added to the playlist for
you enjoyment and ease of finding
