Its a soup sort of day around here today.. rainy and chilly (and I love it). Looking forward to being cozy at home.

Here is another card I made a little while ago for a dear friend and haven't yet shared. This uses the Musical Backgrounds set from the Waltzingmouse September release.

I also used Roses In Bloom stamped onto patterned paper and cut out. After stamping the music background with Sahara Sand ink, I spritzed my cardstock with Caramel Apple Glimmer Mist. I like the little bit of splotchiness.. adds to the vintage look, I think!

Monogram Bookmark

Hi guys!

Today I wanted to share a bookmark I made for my Nana for her birthday. This one has been sitting in my 'share' pile for a while.

I used the same layout as I did for this bookmark I made. I also used the same Floral Alphabet from Serendipity Stamps - it is just so pretty!

I stamped the 'J' first in Tuxedo Black Memento and then colored it with Copics. The patterned paper is from the Guide Lines Collection from Papertrey. There is a magnet on the front and back of the inside to keep the bookmark held together over your page - I first saw these made by the lovely Julia Aston - she's so clever!

So glad you stopped by today! Two quick things before you go: I added a new page to my blog (link in top left) of Items For Sale.  I have got some goodies there and will be adding more - please poke around and help me purge! :)

Harvest Time

Good morning, my friends. I hope you are doing well. I had a great time this weekend with my Mom. We spent some time at the Country Living Fair and then did a lot more shopping around town. I have a few photos from the Fair to share with you. I also wanted to share the link for a store that we visited called European Papers. They mostly sell supplies for bookbinding but also have some things for collages or cardmaking. I found a few bits and bobs that will find their way onto some cards in the near future. It was a fun shop to poke around but they also offer a full online catalog.

First, a card, then my photos. Its been a rainy past few days here and I love it. Its a little chilly, and I love bundling up... the trees are just starting to change colors and the house is full of the smell of a Fall Harvest candle. I wish I could bottle this feeling forever.

Something very fall-ish using Friendship Jar and the Fall Fillers from Papertrey Ink. I wasn't in much of a mood to color, so I just highlighted the image with Copics. It reminds me of a sepia-toned photograph. The patterned paper is from the Autumn Abundance Collection, still one of my favorites.

Hi there! How are you doing today?

I have a fun little card to share with you today. I picked up this new handbag last weekend and one of my first thoughts was how much fun it would be to replicate the pattern on a card. When I saw the current Moxie Fab World Challenge, the Offset Scallop Gallop I knew I needed to get my butt in the studio!

I used the large scalloped border die from Papertrey Ink to cut each of my strips of cardstock. The sentiment is from the WMS Teeny Trees set, a phrase creeping into my daily conversations courtesy of Claire!

An Encouraging Word

Good morning. Today is Serendipity Stamps DT challenge day. This week we were challenged to create a card of encouragement. We all know someone who could use a boost or a little encouragement, so this challenge is always appropriate.

I chose to use the Life is Like Riding Cling Set for my card.

I colored the bicycle with Copics and cut it out. I stitched a strip of October Afternoon paper to the bottom of my card then added my bike and a few buttons. I really wanted to put the sentiment on the card front, but I just didn't have the room. So I finished the inside (which is something I'm usually too lazy to do ;)

I really love the sentiment - it speaks to me, if you know what I mean. Balance is one of those words that I find myself using often when thinking about life. I don't know if I am getting any better at it, but it certainly is a focus of mine. Maybe I'll keep this card as a word of encouragement for myself!

Today starts my favorite season! Its the first day of Autumn AND the hockey preseason starts!! The Pens play the Red Wings tonight. We'll be faithfully listening to the game on Penguins radio. LOVE this time of year!!

A Happy Halloween

Hi there! How was your weekend?

We celebrated my adorable nephew Jake's first birthday.. goodness he is scrumptious. I will see if my SIL posted some pics.

And since I'm going in fifteen different directions right now, I'll share a quick card and be on my way.

The Halloween image came in a digital print-out from Prickley Pear Rubber Stamps. I cut it out and matted it with some Kraft cardstock. The background is stamped with the Swirly Bat in Versamark ink. I spritzed a doily with my Wild Honey Distress Reinker and Perfect Pearls mix. Everything also got a healthy dose of Distress Ink.

Big fan of the vintage Halloween! Speaking of vintage... this weekend (I am super excited) my Momma and I are going to the Country Living Fair in Columbus, OH. I love Country Living Magazine and have been wanting to go to the Fair for a few years now. I have been having so much fun incorporating vintage items into my crafting, so I can't wait to see what goodies I can find!

Snapshots of Halloween

I am here to jazz up your Saturday with another Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge!

Today's sketch is one of my favorites so far. It is really versatile!

I am getting into full Halloween mode here. There are pumpkins for sale, the leaves are starting to change, and even a few houses have their decorations out already! I love every bit of it. I thought it would be fun to fill each of those squares with a lil' bit of Halloween!

I stamped each of my designs and trimmed them down to fit on the card. I used a bunch of different sets, they are all listed below in the recipe. I inked the edges of each of my little snapshots and lined them all up. I don't know why, but there's something I just love about black ink on cream cardstock. Love the orange and purple together too - *sigh* Halloween :)

September WMS Blog Waltz

Good morning, waltzers! Welcome to the September Friends of WMS Blog Waltz.

If you want to waltz along with us and you haven't yet linked up your project, head to this thread in the WMS Forum to link up your creation and view the other participants. There is also a thread for chatting about what you've seen and participating in our little contest! This month's Waltz competition is to guess the subject of one of the stamp sets being released in October. The participating DT members each have a one-word clue on their blogs. Once you see all of them, you should be able to guess! A correct guess could win you a stamp set of your choice!

Ok, now that we've got the details out of the way, here is my card!

Aren't Halloween cards just the most fun to make? I love going over-the-top! Do you see those bats? They are a garland!! Isn't that so *fun*?? I was inspired by some stitched paper garlands I had seen in blogland.. like this one and this one. I've had the idea to make a garland of bats for a while now and finally got around to trying it out.

I used stamps from Halloween Party, Very Vintage Labels No. 10, and Midnight Feast to create my card.

I spritzed a doily green, added a wide metallic ribbon, and topped it off with a big button - I debated adding a RED one, but thought purple looked good!

Nutcracker Garland Tutorial

Hi there!

As promised, here is a step-by-step tutorial showing how I put together the Nutcracker Garland I made for the WMS Release. You might find some of these tips useful!

Step 1: Gather your materials.

I used six Nutcrackers and six Christmas trees for my garland. These images are from the newly released Nutcracker Sweet set. The number of images you use is completely up to you, based on how long you want the garland to be and how much coloring you feel like doing! I also cut a 'base' for each of my images, using the Petite Ovals Small Nestabilities and coordinating Scalloped Ovals. I cut six Bravo Burgundy ovals, six Always Artichoke ovals, and twelve Vintage Cream scalloped ovals. I also put on all the finishing touches.. inking the edges and adding glitter before I started any assembly.

Step 2: Adhere the plain ovals to the scalloped ovals to create a base for each of your images.

Step 3: Punch slots for your ribbon.

I used a Rectangle hand punch from Fiskars because it could get through two layers of cardstock. Stampin' Up! also makes a ribbon punch (which is pictured, but wouldn't punch through both layers of cardstock).

Once I punched my first set of holes, I used a pencil to trace the location on each of the remaining ovals. I did this because I wanted them to all sit the same way on the ribbon. While it may seem like a little bit of extra work, I liked the idea of 'threading' each of the pieces onto my garland better than tying or attaching them together. By doing it this way, each of the ovals can slide along the ribbon - I can easily change the spacing between them and it makes it really easy to adjust how the pieces lay. Does that make sense? I hope I explained it well enough.. if you have any questions, let me know!

Step 4: Thread your ribbon through each of your base pieces.

Threading them this way keeps the ribbon behind your base and out of the way!

Step 5: Gather up the images you're using and apply dimensional adhesive to the back.

Make sure to leave a space wide enough for your ribbon. The adhesive will 'straddle' the ribbon and still allow the bases to slide.

Step 6: Adhere the images to the base.

It is easier to adhere the images to the base after you've already threaded the ribbon (trust me).

There you have it! A completed garland, perfect to add a little holiday cheeer! You can easily adjust the spacing or how each piece lays along your length of ribbon just by sliding each piece. And see how nice and flat they lay? :)

Follow Your Heart

Hi!

I'm recovering from the frenzy of the Waltzingmouse Stamps new release - thanks to all of you that stopped by to leave such sweet comments. I appreciate each and every one of them.

So, I was in the mood to create something quick and scrappy last night. Better to ease myself back into things :) I love these cards that start out as a pile of stuff on my desk and materialize into something fantastic! This one topped out at 10 minutes.

The strips of patterned paper are from the Crate Paper Restoration Collection. This is really a great collection of paper, I love the patterns. I just stitched these right to my card base. The frame, bird, and sentiment are all from my stash of Handmade Die-Cut Cardstock. I added some lace, a vintage button, a rhinestone eye for my birdie, and some acrylic paint to finish it off. Fun, cute, and fast!

Waltzingmouse Release Blog Waltz

Hi! Welcome to the September release blog waltz for Waltzingmouse Stamps!

Five new stamp sets are being released today, now available for purchase in the WMS store.

You should have arrived here from Lisa's blog and Belinda will be your next stop. Claire is the start of the waltz, so you might want to head there first if you just happened to visit me today! :)

I've saved some of my favorites for last, using Nutcracker Sweet and Musical Backgrounds.

First up a gift bag and tag. These are so fun and easy to make and great to have on hand. I just started with a Kraft gift bag purchased from Target and added some decoration.

I stamped, colored, and cut out the tree and Nutcracker for the bag portion. The background was created with the Musical Backgrounds set. The scalloped bit was stamped using a swag stamp from Nutcracker Sweet. I have so many more ideas for this stamp and can't wait for more time to play around. One thing I love about Nutcracker Sweet is that Claire has included other languages' translations of Merry Christmas. For my bag, I used the German sentiment: Frohliche Weihnachten.

Here is the tag, made with one of the gift tag images included in the set. The background was stamped with one of the solid music images, and the border was punched with a Martha around-the-page punch. I trimmed off the second set of scallops.

And now a little home decor - I thought the images from Nutcracker Sweet were too sweet not to put them on display! This is a Christmas garland, a festive way to Christmas up any space. I took some step-by-step photos as I was making this, so I'll skip the details and you'll have to wait for my tutorial! :)

Teeny Trees and WMSC14

So, have you been loving the previews for the five new sets WMS is releasing? I have - our DT is pretty awesome! :)

Today I am combining my previews with our weekly sketch challenge. Here is today's sketch - this is a super one!

And here is my card. I flipped the sketch and used the new Teeny Trees set.

Isn't it perfectly fallish? I can just smell the woodsmoke in the air! This card measures 3-1/2 by 8 inches, and will fit in a business-sized envelope. This conical shape is just one of the many tree options in this set - if you've been following the DT posts, you've seen many more! Endless possibilities with this set (and sketch)!

Here is another creation for you, a cute little mini card.

This card is a three-inch square, a perfect size for tucking into a pocket or lunch box. I used the largest of the branch images only, opting to pass on the leaves. Two cute birdie friends are sitting in the tree. The background pattern was created using one of the 'leaf' images.

My last card for today is something a little different. I was looking at the set and thought what if I put those branches together in a circle? Well.. they make pretty cool snowflakes!

I used today's sketch again, this time oriented vertically. I used the smallest branch from the set and stamped it six times, which makes a snowflake a little more than one inch across. I filled in with some other images from the set (which is *packed* - it contains over 30 different images and 10 different sentiments). Isn't the font fabulous, too?

Bountiful Baskets Additions

Good morning, my dears!

Here we are at Day 2 of the previews for the Waltzingmouse Stamps September release. Today I am sharing some creations made using the Bountiful Baskets Additions set, a coordinating set to the fantastic Spring Baskets. Bountiful Baskets contains two basket images and coordinating seasonal fillers, so even if you don't have Spring Baskets, it is sure to be a must-have!

Starting off with the poinsettia image.. I love poinsettia, especially white (off-white?) ones. Bill and I were married just before Christmas and we had white poinsettias lining the aisle. So pretty.

Anyway, I wanted to show you that all the images in this set coordinate with the existing basket images in Spring Baskets. I thought my poinsettias would be perfect for the tall, fancy basket. I colored my images with Copic markers and went over the flowers with a Stardust gel pen. I put just a bit of sparkle on the leaves and used an Aqua Painter to spread it around - it just adds some subtle sparkle. There's a new background set there too!! You'll be seeing lots of the Music Background from me.

Some birthday goodies tucked inside a little picnic basket. I paper pieced the gifts using patterned paper from the Crate Paper Restoration Collection. YUM-O. The background bits are also from that collection. I added some glitter and stamped the sentiment repeatedly to create my background mat. Happy colors!
