ART FRAME tutorial by Asmah

Hi there! It's me Asmah once again and this is my last tutorial for the term that I would like to share with you today.
I used basic ingredients to start with and wrapped up with butterfly and sentiment as always.
Let's get started, shall we.
I used wooden frame and took off the glass and backing sheet to replace it with sturdy chipboard cut into the size of the glass and place the backing sheet once again.
Gesso was applied all over the surface and let dry.
I gathered some paper straws, twine, gauze and kraft paper to adhere on the front to create patterns and texture.
A layer of gesso was applied all over the top once again and dried with heat gun.
Next step is to apply modeling paste through crisscrossed ARTplorations stencil randomly around the frame.
This is how it looks like after it is completely dried.
My favorite step of all is always coloring process. It takes so much layering of colors, spritzing and color changes until I get true satisfaction towards the end.
As you can see here, I have added sentiment from STAMPlorations Art Is stamp set and stamped a butterfly from Trendy Butterflies stamp set.
And here's a little close up.
I sincerely hope you have enjoyed my quick and easy tutorial today.
Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for your time.

TWO WAYS NOT TO WASTE tutorial by Asmah

Hello everyone!
It's me again Asmah sharing a simple and sweet mixed media tutorial. Now, I wonder
if you ever produce a background for a project on card stock or probably thick drawing paper and at the end of the day, you don't like it?
This is what my tutorial is all about.
My intention was to make this background for ATC's.
Let me show you how it was done.
I applied modeling paste through tribal triangles ARTplorations stencil to create texture. Then I realized I did it the other way round because after applying texture paste, I torn some papers and adhered randomly on the textured page. Next I noticed I didn't prime the card stock with gesso in the first place like I always do. So after I have applied modeling paste, adhered torn papers and gesso towards the end, I figured this is art anyway; no mistakes for sure.
Finally I painted the surface with pink and let dry.
Then I realized I forgot to make it crack with crackle medium as planned. Sigh!!
My eyes narrowed down to the PVA glue and that's it...experiment time. I dropped some PVA glue and with damp brush, I brush off the glue with hope it will crack somewhere; if not much but at least some cracks will do. At that point I had blurry vision of the technique I watched at you tube.
Can't help laughing at myself then {ha..ha..ha}. I turn off the light and went to sleep!
The next morning, I investigated my pink background. Found some little tiny cracks here and there. Not to my liking. I changed my mind about making ATC's. I was not happy with the background and keep the piece of artsy away for some hours.
Putting my thinking cap on because I didn't want to waste anything, I decided to use it for a tag instead.

Here are the two ways not to waste:
#1. I cut some flowers with sizzix machine and made two roses.
#2. I adhered the left overs on the tag for texture.
This time I didn't do it the other way round. After I fixed some patterned papers and left over 'pink background paper', I applied gesso straight away and modeling paste through tribal triangles ARTplorations stencil.
Feeling very happy this time, I started playing with watercolors until I feel satisfied.
I let dry under the sun for a while and started decorating with gauze, punched leaves, seed beads, hearts and added a quote. I used green tulle instead of string; unsure between the two. Tulle at last.
I also stamped trendy butterflies on the tag as well as fuzzy cut one butterfly to let it fly freely.
I am that butterfly feeling free after finishing this tag from want not waste not art work.
I hope you will like my tag and get some inspirations from my project this time.
Thank you for dropping by and happy creating.

MINI ALBUM COVERS tutorial by Asmah

Hi everyone!
Asmah is back with a "from-nothing-to-something" mini album that is made from scratch. In this tutorial I would like to show you how I did the cover and back pages by upcycling chipboard from an old office file.
Without further ado, let's get started and enjoy with a latte.
 1.  I used a chipboard from an office ring binder file cut into 4x6 inches.
2 & 3. Make two holes with crop-a-dile.
4. Gathered waste not want not scraps, lace, trims, drywall tape, tulle, strings and cheesecloth or just anything you want to build up textures.
5. Glue down torn paper scraps with glue.
6. Randomly adhere the elements. The strings are rolled up to form flowers and later tucked in with tulle.
 7. Apply gesso all over the texture. I let dry under the sun.
8. I used big bloom factory large ARTplorations stencil to create some nice patterns by applying modeling paste.
9. The messy part begins with playing water colors, spritzing water to let them run through the textures and paste.
10&11. Before I started mess up the covers with colors, I applied glue on certain areas. Then I sprinkle glitter over the glue and shake the unglued access off the covers back into the bottle.
I used patchwork frenzy graphic pentagons stamps to stamp the covers randomly for additional interest. Lastly a bold sentiments create stamp is used to create the title for this mini album adorned with some trendy butterflies, seed beads and sequins.
I tied the covers up together with fancy yarn.
That's it for today. Hopefully my humble mini album covers give you some inspirations to reduce your stash. I shall be back again next month with another tutorial.
Have a good day.

CREATE ART JOURNAL tutorial by Asmah

Hello again Mixed Media lovers and welcome to another fun and easy tutorial.
Asmah back again to show you a simple and quick way to achieve almost one layer bold art work using only four medium, a stencil and stamps. It doesn't take much time either.
My intention is to highlight three main colors, red, black and white as I have never produced this color group in my artwork before. I wanted to see if it will meet my satisfaction towards the end. So let's get started:
I used an old book for my art journal edition. First of all, I used two acrylic colors {scarlet red and burnt sienna} to paint the two pages spread and let dry naturally.
I applied modeling paste through ARTplorations Happy Flowers (large)stencil to create flowery images on the pages.
At this point I leave it as is because I just love the contrast colors so in the end I decided not to paint the flowers. I didn't want to leave empty space so I filled up by drawing more flowers using the stencil.
Next is always my favorite part ~ coloring. I used black water color paint to color in the outline.
Lastly I used Bold Sentiments Create stamps and Artsy Border Maker stamps to randomly stamp sentiment and patterns using Versafine Onyx Black ink pad.
Here's the final result of my art journal.
I hope you like my artwork this time and thank you for leaving me a comment.
Have a wonderful day.

ALTERED BOX tutorial by Asmah

Hi there mixed media lovers!
Asmah here sharing another tutorial with you today. I altered a sunglasses box using several techniques with autumn and rustic feel.
~Enjoy~
This is the box that belongs to my husband for so many years that I find very sturdy and perfect to alter.
First of all I gave it a first coat of gesso and let dry.
Next I used acrylic yellow orche to paint the box.
While it is drying, I fussy cut two pieces of flowers from a pretty napkin with floral theme for decoupage.
Mod podge was used to adhere the blooms on the lid.
I used old rose prints ARTplorations stencil to create rose pattern by applying modeling paste through the stencil.
Meanwhile, I rub two colors (burnt sienna and vermillion red) to create autumnal colors.
After it is completely dried, I sand off the box to make it a little bit rustic. This too smooth up the surface.
I also used mod podge to seal the lid to finish it off.
I sincerely hope this simple and minimalist project will inspire you to alter something useful for yourself or to give away as present.
Till then, have great moments always.

Hugs and smiles,
