Cleaning the Greenhouse....

Seems like it has  been a very busy spring.

I knew it would be so I decided to tackle one project at a time.

The first was my green house.

A couple years ago I shared my clean up with you.

Well, a lot of stuff got piled in here last summer and fall.

Watch out!

Scary!

So the first weekend I carried everything in the middle out.

Sadly, I did not get done.

A storm was coming with 50 mile an hour wind gusts and rain so I covered the pile and hoped for the best.

I did not want to have to carry it all back in and back out again...

I had piled some pots to donate behind my shed.

The winds tossed them about a bit...

Round 2!

I had put some things back in that I did not to get wet.

So I started by carrying them out again....

I did make a couple dents in organization last weekend.

My husband always suggests going vertical when you need more space or storage.

Those little chairs were made by my great grandfather and I used them as a child.

My sweet husband helped to organize and move our tools.

My goal is to keep it neat but just in case....

The tools will be ready to grab right inside the door.

The space on the floor in front of them will be kept clear except for my little rolling cart.

Work continues...

Now that is a welcome site!

These shelves have not been clean in forever....

They are ready for some plants to be started...

I am thinking herbs this year...

I cleaned off my display shelves...again.

Pared down a few things.

It could use another go around for cleaning out but it is getting better.

We save pitchers and bottles for flower arrangements for the fair.

Again, to maximize storage, go UP....

The plant shelves look better.

Underneath I got rid of a bunch of stuff.

Now my extra glass scraps are there along with some pots.

This wall is much better.

I sorted through my books and kept my favorites.

There is a great mix of informational and some fun junking books.

My hat collection from high school is in here on the wall.

I also have my flower frogs on the shelves.

The green laundry bags up high hold light botanicals that I collect: pine cones, gourds, pieces of bark....

I gathered most of my clay pots in one spot.

Now they are handy and lovely under the potting bench my husband made me about 20+ years ago.

This is the cleanest the top has been forever.

Room to plant.

Or dream...

Or ponder...

Here are the display shelves from the other side.

I don't waste any space...

Above the door there are a few glass bottles.

I ended up putting one of the chairs I showed you before back here.

When I hung up some more bags of pine cones, the chair did not fit.

My chicken wire dress forms will sit here until I get them out into the garden.

I have to start cleaning out the flower beds next.

Later I will show you a few of the collections that get stored in my green house.

Thanks for stopping by...

Recycled Materials Become Garden Decor

Are you thinking of warmer and greener days yet?

My favorite time to create is in the summer.

I love to create outside in the sunshine.

I am planning my projects for warmer days.

I thought I would share a recap of some of my garden projects from last summer.

All of these are up cycled  from recycled materials.

I made a couple wind chimes.

This one looked great on my front porch.

Marbles, forks, beads, a flower frog, fishing line, and some plastic baubles all came together...

Reminds me of raindrops...

This fun and whimsical wind chime started with a lampshade skeleton.

You can read more about creating it here.

I sold this to a girl at my fall show last year.

She said it was sure to make her the favorite daughter since it perfectly matched her mother's style.

I hope it did...

I really enjoyed making it.

I am already planning another series of mosaic projects.

Last summer my daughter and I made a bunch of fun projects.

You can find the final post here.

Many of these were gifts to family and friends.

Everyone that received one seemed to genuinely love and appreciate them.

The one above went to my in-laws.

The tiles were retrieved by my father in law several years ago at an auction.

He chuckled at the memories.

This fun little bird was a ceramic bird from the dollar store.

She has found lots of homes around the garden every season.

I move her every so often.

This started with a gazing ball my friend gave me.

These glass mushrooms are sprinkled throughout the garden.

At a party we had, I had to smile at a friend who picked it up, examined it and showed it to his girlfriend...

The rebar keeps them upright and in place.

The tutorial for making them is here.

Chicken wire and a tomato cage became fun dress forms for the garden.

The post is here.

I love this one with the tutu.

This other gal got a raggedy strip skirt.

I plan to make a couple more variations of her for this year.

Wouldn't she make a pretty alternative to the typical garden scarecrow?

This gets me thinking about what to do this summer.

I hope you saw something that inspired you as well...

Thrifty Thursday...A Candlestick gets a pretty upgrade...

A while back I  showed you a couple sets of candlesticks I picked up at the thrift store...

I told you I might use one as a base for a dress form.

I finally got around to it.

I have made quite a few of these dress forms from the pattern I got from The DIY Dish.

My girls are always a bit lumpy but I fix them up and soon you don't even notice.

I glued a pale blue one made from a muslin bed sheet to the candlestick.

I told you...

She is lumpy and bumpy.

Some turn out better than others....

So here is how I fixed her up.....

I made her a skirt.

Tattered and torn...

A bit like me.

Once she puts it on though...She looks so pretty.

I am glad I showed you the candlestick first.

You can hardly see it now.

It is the perfect base for her.

You can't see it in the pictures but there was a slight breeze that blew the strips ever so slightly.

It looked so pretty.

These photos were actually taken moments before it started to rain.

If you look closely, you can see a big rain spot on her neck.

Side view.

From the back.

You can see her skirt is just tied on.

I like them removable.

I can dress her up or down depending on the mood.

The skirt was super simple to make....

Rip your fabric in strips.

Remove the loose strings.

Cut them a variety of lengths.

Cut some pieces of lace as well.

Start with an 18 inch long strip and just begin knotting on the strips and lace.

Keep going until it is long enough to meet in the back.

Then tie it on in a bow.

So there is this week's Thrifty Thursday makeover....

What have you been up to lately?

Thanks for stopping by....
