A Case of the Mondays, #5

I made a surprising discovery while looking at this page in the Office Cheesy Vendor Calendar.  When I was trying to match the greenish-brown background I was quite surprised to find the matching color on this particular strip.  I love the darker green, but not particularly the lighter, more yellow-y version.

Bonus assignment:  What is a hue that you like when it is dark, but not so much as its lighter version (or vice versa)?

A Case of the Mondays, #4

For this Monday, the October illustration in my Cavallini calendar didn't need any embellishing, but I was intrigued to study the color palate closely:

Bonus assignment:  Take a close look at these colors.  Where do they exist together in nature, either in pairs or as a group?  Are they hues you choose to work with?  If so, what draws you to them?  If not, why not?

Funky Urban Greenery

Oddball graffiti, murals and signs around town:

And what is the deal with this hooded cat-monster?  I see it all over the place.

From Today's Walk

Ooooh, snap!
.
Cool engraving:

In a nearby P-Patch this person's garden detritus looks cooler than some of my intentional garden art...

Trying out the Fisheye feature of my camera. Most of my experiments were NOT successful, but I kind of like this one...

Let's see if you're old enough to get this reference: "Is it LIVE or is it Memorex?"

The BIGGEST "Lie of Omission"

My back yard is truly "Where the Wild Things Are"...wild blackberry, wild morning glory, wild dandelions, me after several hours of maddening weeding. Nevertheless, dedicated as I am to misleading photography, I managed to find these little oases of calm and beauty buried within the dispiriting jungle behind my house.

Spring comes very early to the Pacific Northwest:

These thrift store birdhouses are perched (somewhat precariously) on a discarded ladder. I felt so very "Salvage Studio" when I thought of displaying them thusly:

And that, Gentle Readers, is all the news (from the garden) that's fit to print!

Mosaic Madness

I made this tabletop at a Mosaic Madness art day last year; it sits on my front porch and makes a handy place to set down grocery bags when I'm trying to get into my house. I'm pretty sure this exotic bird is found only on Artgirl Island.

I love my necklace...

I bought this fabulous necklace from local artist, Rebecca DeVere, a while back. I had it hanging in my art room, not wearing it because I felt it was too short. It only took me about a year to think to add more chain so that the length worked for me...and today I'm wearing it for the first time.

I adore the beaded flower...

...and the way she spaced out the green pearls by using silver crimp beads. Rebecca is one of the coolest artists ever!
