happy summer, happy august!  this month at the gecko galz customer challenge blog our theme is "by the shore." link up a seaside creation for the chance to win a gecko galz prize!

i've made a little "twinchie" to get this started -- a 2x2 inch creation...

"summer memories"

supplies: inchie arts twinchie base; gecko galz beachy keen paper pack; gecko galz sunny summer jewels collage sheet; distress ink.

instructions: this was the simplest creation to make.  i covered the twinchie base with the designer paper and distressed the edges.  i fussy cut three images from the collage sheet and adhere them to the base.  i'd intended to do more with this but i looked at it and felt satisfied so i stopped!

my collaged tag is an explosion of colors that give me joy.  the dancer is by lunagirl (purple collage sheet); the butterfly, bird, fence and sunflowers are by tumblefish studio and the background is by marta van eck.

more mermaids and undersea pretties

here's a last bit of inspiration to encourage you to join the gecko galz customer challenge "in a mermaid's garden" challenge.

supplies: gecko galz charming words collage sheet; gecko galz pretty mermaids collage sheet; gecko galz sea nymphs collage sheet; gecko galz beachy keen paper pack; gecko galz by the shore paper pack; gecko galz sunny summer digital stamp set; die cuts, enamel dots, distress ink, metallic blue border.

instructions: i adhered paper from the beachy keen paper pack onto card stock and distressed the edges. i also glued down the shiny blue border.  next i printed the turtle from the sunny summer digital stamp kit onto paper from the by the shore paper pack and cut it out.  i fussy cut the mermaids from the 2 different collage sheets and also cut out the sentiment. last step was the diagonal enamel dot!

in a mermaid's garden

supplies: gecko galz charming words collage sheet; gecko galz pretty mermaids collage sheet; gecko galz beachy keen paper pack; gecko galz by the shore paper pack; gecko galz sunny summer digital stamp set; die cuts, enamel dots, distress ink.

instructions: i adhered paper from the beachy keen paper pack onto card stock and distressed the edges. next i printed the turtle from the sunny summer digital stamp kit onto paper from the by the shore paper pack and cut it out.  i fussy cut the mermaid and also cut out the sentiment.  after arranging everything i glued it all down and added the die cut butterfly and the enamel dots.

instructions: i adhered paper from the beachy keen paper pack onto card stock and distressed the edges. i fussy cut the mermaid and picked several sea shell die cuts to create my scene, and glued it all down.  i cut up the sentiment and added that along with the seahorse.

instructions: this is a digital creation.  i selected png files from the pretty pinups and sea side icons kit and arranged them in photoshop.

gecko galz circus journal pages

happy july! each month at gecko galz one of the design team members takes a turn sharing a journal page and a tutorial for the page.  this month i'm up!  but first let me tell you that the customer challenge on the gecko galz blog this month is "in a mermaid's garden."

last month our theme was circus and i am so in love with all things circus that i stayed with that theme for my journal pages.  i started by printing several circus themed collage sheets and cutting out the images i thought i'd like to use.

and then of course the fussy cutting began.  i wasn't sure which images i would ultimately use so i cut out a lot that i liked.  the ones i didn't use went into an envelope for a future project.  i also remembered there were a couple other sheets i wanted to work with so i included those in this photo.

next i had to decide which journal to use, a large one or a small one? 

i chose the smaller (6x6) and next explored what layout of images i might like.

for the background i knew i wanted to use watercolor spray inks and lots of washi tape.

after spritzing the pages and impatiently waiting for them to dry i started to apply washi tape.

at this point i got so busy making that i forgot to take additional photos.  here are the completed pages.

some flowers and enamel dots made for a nice finishing touch. so here is my happy little circus fantasy, i hope you like it!
