Hello every one,
I am going to spare you all the usual explanations as to why I have been so absent in blog world, except to say we are all good here and I have been having fun planning a trip, but more on that later. Whilst I haven't been blogging much I have been busy with miniatures. I actually finished all the textile aspects of the Twins room and am now working on the furniture, hopefully I'll be finished in time for a nice Christmas post....fingers crossed. So without too much waffle and quite a few pictures I will show what I've been up to.
Now the top photo is there because you all know I love a sneak peak, it's also gives the best view of the blind I made to go under the sheer curtain, which I might add was made from a piece of my favourite beach dress that I happen to tare.
I used the same fabric which is a cotton voile for the blue bed cover and chose a quilting fabric with a tiny blue rose for the coverlet on the bed and the canopy. The rose fabric was a pure white but I decided I wanted to break the starkness of all the white by antiquing it so I tea dipped it all before sewing. I like the white and cream together and I think it brings out the antique rose on the fabric of the wing backed chair which you can see in a later photo.
For the valance I used a cotton voile napkin that had a lovely edging that sat so beautifully and covered the underneath of the bed, a great place for the twins to hide sweet treats they are not supposed to sneak from the kitchen....; )
A close up of the rose fabric cushion trimmed in lace and the contrasting fabric I lined the canopy with.
A close up of the chair fabric and inside of the canopy.
The bed on the other side
Close ups of the coverlets
A peak through the window because you know I like them!
A view of the room as a whole which I'm a bit disappointed in because it doesn't show it's depth, it really is a large room.
The lace trimmed pillow
A close up of the rose curtain tie
This one just because I like it!
And this because I haven't even begun to show you some of the sweet little items I have collected for the room, that might have to wait till Christmas....; )
Well, I hope you all enjoyed, I have bombarded you with photos but I wanted to cover everything, overall I did a bit of research on girls bedrooms of the 1930s and 40s and this type of traditional floral on floral theme seemed to be the style of the time, whilst it wasn't what I had pictured when I first imagined decorating the house it has certainly evolved into something I love and as time goes on I realise how similar it is to painting, it's all about telling a story and I hope you see one emerging here.
Much love to you all and a very warm welcome to my new followers.

Beautiful workmanship! This is a real visual feast for the eyes. So serene and well done.
ReplyDeleteHi Isabelle,
DeleteThank you for your lovely comments, it's always nice to get such positive feedback.
Fi x
It is a wonderful room. I love the colors. you did a GREAT job with all the fabrics.
ReplyDeleteHi Catherine, yes blue somehow seems to be a favourite of mine.
DeleteFi xx
What a lovely and pretty room! Those soft blues and flower fabrics works so well together. I love how you have reused the fabric of your favourite dress...And I just love those last few photos with the sun streaming through the window, the curtains filtering the light...opening up the window to let the fresh air in (and a bit of the garden...)
ReplyDeleteHaha, yes I remember gasping when I tore it on a sun lounge, it was the perfect colour so why not put it to use?I too like the garden coming in the window, those tiny little buds look so sweet.
DeleteFi x
What a gorgeous little room.....every detail is perfect!
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda, I'll be heading over to your blog soon to get a little Paris inspiration.

Beautiful room, nice colors, and tiny dolls are so adorable!
ReplyDeleteMagda
Hi Magda,
DeleteThe dolls are adorable, I bought them at one of our local fairs and they are made by Win Garside who sadly doesn't have a blog.
Fi x
I love this! Your colour scheme is perfect, and Im so glad to see it after hearing you talk about your ideas for it!
ReplyDeleteEmily
Hi Emily, yes I finally got to it and now all I have to do is add the furniture, some paintings and perhaps a few toys...; )
DeleteFi xx
I like all the little details.
ReplyDeleteA very nice room.
Thanks Nina.

Just lovely Fi, such a serene room, I love the light falling through the window and curtains. Mmmh, I think you have space for a dollhouse in there too....:-)
ReplyDeleteHi Elga, yes,I like the play with light too and there is lots of space for play things, it's going to be so much fun!

Hello from Spain: beautiful pictures. The curtains are fabulous. Great job. I really like the decor of the room. I love the pad. Keep in touch
ReplyDeleteHi Marta, thanks so much.
DeleteHugs, Fi xx
Hello Fi,
ReplyDeleteI cannot tell you how charming this room is. First of all your work is perfection! Gorgeous! The curtains hang perfectly! The room has such a welcoming, warm atmosphere and every item is perfect...Bravo fi., it is exquisite!
Big hug,
Giac
Hi Gaic, thank you so much, I think it's the first time I feel happy with what I have done but I guess thats because I'm learning from all you great miniaturists out there.....; ) So hopefully I'll be happy once I add in the furniture!
DeleteML Fi XX
So beautiful in its craftsmanship, as well as presentation. The light coming
ReplyDeletethrough the window is the perfect final touch - I can almost hear the birds chirping in the trees!
Hi Philip, thank you so much for your kind words, I'm glad you heard the birds chirping too....; )
DeleteML Fi xx
So sweeeeeeeet! Your skills with fabric are very impressive! I love the mood you've created here, and the colors are so right up my sleeve. I just adore your blue… so soft and muted. I wanna shrink and dive between the pillows. And your skills don't stop there, you've also made excellent pictures to set it all of! Chapeau!
ReplyDeleteHi Debora, It's nice to hear from you! And thank you for your kind words, I do know you like blue, we certainly have that in common.I'm pleased to let you know that if you do shrink down and dive between the pillows, the mattress is nice and soft...; )
DeleteML Fi x
Hello, dar-link! I absolutely adore this room! You truly captured the essence of the period but more importantly: created a lovely space for any time. It's not easy to mix so many patterns but you did it expertly and with great aplomb. Too bad about your favorite beach dress but what a perfect sacrifice for this adorable room. Using blue for a girl's room instead of the more usual pink hues was also a brilliant move. Love, love, love it!
ReplyDeleteXOXO,
John
Hello my lovely!!Thank you for your lovely words. It seems ages since we've spoken!! ( it always seems odd to say spoken...is typed more accurate??)
DeleteI agree with you on the period thing, as you know I'm not so much a stickler for period, as long as it's timeless then that works for me. I think aplomb is going to be word of the week...I like it, and shall perhaps try it as my mantra!! I like the blue too for a girls room, I initially thought I might do it yellow but I also thought I would have messy bedclothes, more like a child's bedroom and I like the look of a tousled bed but I could make my self do it.........I guess like a painting I just let it evolve!
ML Fi XXX
Dear Fi, good to hear from you again and that you all are well :D!! Welcome back in the blogworld, I've missed you! Your twins room is so charming, you've used a perfect and serene color scheme and the most gorgeous fabrics, treated them softly in the direction that you wanted it and you photographed it all so well. I especially love the picture through the window.
ReplyDeleteLovingly, Ilona
Hello my dear friend!!! I know, I have been so absent, but not in my heart,I do hope to get into the rhythm of blogging again! Thank you for your sweet words, I love the the open window too! Yes the whole draping of fabric thing can be quite time consuming and frustrating to say the least! But it's all done now, time for toys....
DeleteML fi xxxxx
Hi Fi! Your room is Gorgeous!!! The cloth you have chosen and the way you have draped it and the combinations of patters is just Beautiful! So peaceful and serene and Timeless!!! There is a hush of early afternoon... perhaps the girls are out playing and the sunlight streaming in the window through the shade is gorgeous! I want to curl up in that chair with the book... and daydream....!
ReplyDeleteJust Beautiful!!!
Hi Betsy, I love the fact that you can imagine the scene so well, isn't that what miniatures are all about, capturing that moment in time, creating the ambiance, as I have said already, it feels so similar to painting.
ReplyDeleteML Fi xxx
I am truly without words! This little room is darling beyond description. Every little detail is perfect but the window treatment is especially delightful. I just want to sit and stare and soak up the calm atmosphere ...
ReplyDeleteHi Norma, thank you so much for your kind words, it's always so encouraging to hear others like what you do.
DeleteFi xx
Amazing work, Fi! Each photo shows a different aspect of the room's beauty. Oh, if only I could step in there for a peaceful child's sleep. I know I would awaken so refreshed from a rest in that room! Wonderful, wonderful work. Bravo! xo Jennifer
ReplyDeleteThank you my dear, it means so much to hear that you like it, I always feel I want to shrink down and live in your little houses too!
DeleteML Fi xx
Hey Fiona, so good to see another post of yours. I can see you have been really busy with the twinsroom and the result is so sweet and pretty!!! I love the curtains above the beds.....how romantic. Perfect for two little girls:-)
ReplyDeleteHugs,Liduina
Hello my lovely, so good to hear from you! I'm so glad you like what I have done so far, it is rather pretty, so different to my RL house, I'm sure thats why I do miniatures, so I can dabble in both worlds.
DeleteML Fi xx
Stunning work! It is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGeneviève
Thank you so much Genevieve!

I really love the canopys over the beds Fi, your work is fabulous
ReplyDeleteMarisa
Thank you! I thought they might be a bit of a challenge but they turned out okay.
DeleteFi x
So incredibly pretty! And you can never have too many photos. To save myself from presenting you with a long list, I love every detail ie. the ruching on the curtain pole and that sort of thing, nothing has gone unnoticed :D
ReplyDeleteI love the light too, don't get much of that over here, bit of a novelty to see light streaming through a window :D
Thanks Sarah. Yes we do have good light, sometimes it's a little to strong.I have noticed that there is a distinctive difference in the light over here, like the Dutch and the French have a notable difference that shows in their paintings.
DeleteFi x
Fi x
Its all incredibly adorable! Your photos are great, the more the better! I love the way you light the rooms.
ReplyDeleteThanks Idske, I do love a good photo.
DeleteFi x
It's amazing! Hugs
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteFi x
This little girls room is just plain adorable!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteFi x
What a gorgeous room you have created Fi and wonderful photos. Such attention to detail, it's great how you can use 'damaged' things to create something wonderful in miniature isn't it. The colours are dreamy.
ReplyDeleteHi Margret, yes miniatures can give discarded objects a whole new life.
DeleteFi x
Hi honey
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I'm so late. We moved house last weekend so it's all been manic. Not to mention the fact our broadband isn't on till next week!!
I love this room, the colours are so soft and dreamy - guess that's the point !
The blind looks great under the curtain, thank God your beach dress has a second chance at wowing us.
I can't wait to see the tiny things you have collected.
Much love
Si xxx
Ps about the depth of the room, perhaps if you put some small pieces of furniture towards the front it will make it look deeper? Desks, toy trunk, rugs, etc. just adding your little details will make a difference xxx
Hi Si, glad you made it here, it sounds like you have been very busy! Yes I think a few things in the foreground will make a difference. The depth of field was wrong on my camera because the beds look incredibly short. Oh well, I'll know next time.
DeleteFi x
Is there any space for me to live in that room?? Even for just a little while?? The room is sooooooo inviting and dreamy....Very well done, the details are stunning!
ReplyDeleteHi Simona, Thanks, I think I would like to shrink down and move in for a while too, it would be nice to get away.
DeleteML fi x
Oh my WOW!!! Fantastic!! Oh I would just love to sit in there and be a kid all over again. Just perfect! Carriexx
ReplyDeleteO mamma mamma mamma mia!
ReplyDeleteI finally have the opportunity to sit in front of the computer and find out that you had posted this wonder ...
I am TOTALLY IN LOVE with the result of your efforts! I love the soft color combination, so many shades of beige and ivory and white and blue ...
A poem for pictures :-)
You could publish two hundred, and were not too many :-)

ReplyDeleteEvery time I needed diorama inspiration, I head to your beautiful blog full of amazing pictures showing how blessed and talented you are :) Thank you for sharing your gift to us and have a wonderful holiday season :)
ReplyDeleteHi Fi! What a soft tranquil room the twins have! The colors of the walls, the carpet, the arm chair, the bedding and the curtain with the shade are beautifully coordinated and harmonious! There is a lot of thoughtful considerations that infuse this bedroom. The solution for anchoring the canopy is such a good one! It doesn't over-power those lovely beds and yet provides the required privacy and ambiance for each bed. Clever girl! :D
ReplyDeleteelizabeth
This is without a doubt the sweetest, softest room I have seen to date...the window
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work Fi
ReplyDeleteLove the little miniatures on the bed and the way you've used the light in the photos as well as everything everyone's said above already!! :)
