And about the parenting post, I think that you have it right on- disciplining IS what your kids really need. It IS showing them that you love them. Consistency often times pays off in the end anyways in that the behaviors start to change and then you get to spend more time being the "loving" mommy instead of the "disciplinary" mommy.
