21 secrets

Sometimes you need an extra dose of inspiration to get started, I found a great online 

workshop that really inspired me, 21 Secrets Art Journaling workshop was filled with 

lots of tips, ideas and inspiration delivered by 21 amazing artists. Many of them use 

the most fantastic vibrant colors in their projects and I made ...... as usual .......

something brown/black.

Ibland behövs en extra dos av inspiration för att komma igång, jag hittade en rolig workshop

på nätet som verkligen fick fart på skaparlusten, 21 secrets art journaling workshop var fylld 

med massor av tips, idéer och inspiration levererad av 21 st olika underbart inspirerande 

artister. Många av dom jobbar med  fantastiskt färgglada projekt och jag......gjorde som vanligt.......mörkt och murrigt.

I started with the chapter by France Papillon, lots of techniques to create

backgrounds for an Art Journal, both with acrylic paint, ink and various kinds of media.

The result was an Art Journal made of watercolor paper with eight pages waiting to be

completed but so far I have only decorated the front.

Jag började med avsnittet av France Papillon massor med tekniker för att skapa bakgrunder 

till en Art Journal både med akrylfärg, bläck och olika sorters medier. Resultatet blev en Art 

Journal av akvarellpapper med åtta sidor som väntar på att fyllas men hittills har jag bara 

dekorerat framsidan.

Pieces of lace, plaster bandages and strips of fabric in the background, home made 

flowers left over from other projects ....

Några bitar spets, gipsbindor och tygremsor i bakgrunden, egentillverkade 

blommor som blivit över från andra projekt....

Wristwatch straps in leather, gears cut with a die from Sizzix / Holtz.

Klockarmband i läder och kugghjul utstansade med en die från Sizzix/Holtz.

Lots of stuff, leaf-shaped pins, pieces of fabric, lace and metal decorations.

Massor med blandat "jox" lövformade pins, tygbitar, spets och metall-

dekorationer. Lejonet kommer från Rox Stamps. 

The corner (cut with a die from Spellbinders in black cardstock) is actually 

a cross but perfectly suited as a corner if you divide it into four parts.

Hörnet (utstansat med en die från Spellbinders i svart cardstock) är egentligen 

ett kors men passade perfekt som hörn om man delar den i fyra delar.

For some odd reason I decided to use lots of yellow and orange for the 

backgrounds in my  Journal, we'll see how I'll manage to tone down the the cheerful

 colors LOL

Av någon märklig anledning bestämde jag mej för att använda massor med gult och orange 

till bakgrunderna i min Art Journal, vi får väl se hur jag ska lyckas tona ner den glada färgen. :)

Stampendous & Decoart Art Journal

This week the DecoArt International design team is joining the Stampendous blog hop along with Princeton Brushes, and Inspired by Willow Wolfe. Artists from around the world are joining together to show you what you can do with stamps and acrylic paint! Of course, there are prizes! DecoArt is sending three sets of their Media Fluid Acrylics, Princeton Artist Brushes, through Willow Wolfe, is sending a Select 3750 Brush Set and a Catalyst Wedge, and Stampendous be adding a Stampendous Creative Palette

And here is what I created with stamps and embossing powders from Stampendous

and acrylic paint from DecoArts new Media Line

I altered the cover of an art journal. Lots of stamping, embossing and acrylic paint.

Chipboard letters painted with Fluid Acrylics, stamped with VersaFine using the

same stamp as on the background. Gloss Varnish on top.

I covered the spine with embossing powder, shabby blue.

I used a lot of different Stampendous stamps from the n*studio Mixed Media Line all 

designed by Nathalie Kalbach

The back....the metal corners also got a makeover using the Shabby

Blue embossing powder from Stampendous.

And here's how I created the background:

I started by adding  acrylic paint to a sheet of cardstock using a brayer...

I used four different colors from the the new Media Line from Decoart, allowing each 

coat to dry before applying the next. Then I stamped different texture stamps randomly

all over the page using VersaMark and embossed them with clear embossing powder.

I covered the whole page with black acrylic paint and let it set for a minute, then I used a 

baby wipe to wipe off the paint from the stamped and embossed patterns.

Don't wait to long, if you do you will have a hard time getting the paint off.

Then some more stamping and embossing...

This time i covered the whole thing in white paint, and rubbed the paint off once again 

before it cured. Finally i applied two coats of DecoArt Gloss Varnish.

FINISHED!!

Faux Leather

A while back I saw a beautiful faux leather notebook on Astrid Maclean's blog.

She linked to a Youtube tutorial by Sheena Douglass and of course I had to try.

How could I resist messing around with paper , glycerin and paints???

Jag såg en jättefin bok med "skinnpärm" på Astrid Maclean's blog för ett tag sedan.

Hon länkade till en Youtube instruktion av Sheena Douglass så klat jag måste testa.

Hur skulle jag kunna motstå att kladda med papper, Glycerin och färg??

In the original tutorial Sheena Douglass sprayed the paper with a mix of Glycerin and water 

to make it flexible and leather looking....I made my own version.... I tried a few different 

papers, Kraft Cardstock and old packaging of various thickness. I mixed 1 part of Glycerin

and 6 parts strong black tea and let the papers soak for five minutes. Then I embossed the

wet paper in an embossing folder and let it dry overnight before I started to color it.

All the covers have been given a final coat of JudiKins Micro Glasze and buffed to a shine.

I had so much fun making covers for notebooks and journals so I made six of them...

Jag testade olika sorters papper Kraft Cardstock och olika oblekta varianter av emballage

papper. Jag blandade 1 del Glycerin med 6 delar starkt svart te och lät pappersbitarna 

ligga i blöt i blandningen i fem minuter. Sen körde jag det blöta papperet i en embossing 

folder innan jag lät det torka över natten.

Det var så roligt att jag hade svårt att sluta....första omgången blev det sex böcker.

I used an elastic cord tied to a button to keep the notebook closed.

I glue an old coin to the button.

En knapp på ett elastiskt band för att hålla boken stängd, ett gammalt mynt fastlimmat

 på knappen.

The notebook measures 10,5x13,5 cm. On this cover I used an embossing folder

with a cklackle pattern from Darice. I higlighted the pattern with some Decoarts

Metallic Lustre Gold.

Anteckningsboken är 10,5x13,5 cm. Det här omslaget är embossat i en folder från

Darice. Lite Decoart Metallic Gold på det upphöjda mönstret.

I lined the inside with fabric (not a good idea to use stripes, it really shows off the

facct that i glued it on all crooked LOL) It contains 24 pages made out of creme colored 

copy paper

Insidan fodrad med bomullstyg (inte en super bra idé att använda randigt tyg, i alla fall

inte om man inte kan limma fast det rakt :) 24 sidor av creme färgat papper.

in addition, and of coarse Metallic gold.

No fabric on the inside, I liked the distressed look and did'nt want to cover it.

I think this one is my favorite...a bit larger than the other two 12x14 cm.

I used one of Spellbinders new 3D embossing folders. Tea colored

and Distress Ink Walnut Stain.

I like how you can see how the papers are sewn into the spine......

Man ser tydligt hur pappren är fastsydda....

The paper in this cover is a bit thicker, and the embossed inside looks 

just like old leather.

Det här var det tjockaste pappret jag använde...blev en riktigt snygg läderlook.

Then I started to experiment with color......Distress Stain Broken China

and Vintage photo.....

Embossing folder from Sizzix/Holtz.

The Distress Stain made the inside look very strange......so I lined it with fabric.

Distress Stain blöder igenom papperet och får insidan att se riktigt skum ut...så

här blev det ett tyg på insidan.

I used an brown Archival stamp pad to highlight the raised areas.

This one contains 56 pages. First I had to Google on "bookbinding" then I realized

that bookbinding was rather complicated and made my own version of sewing all the

pages together before i attached the cover.

Den här blev tjockare, 56 sidor. Först Googlade jag på "bokbindning" och insåg  att 

bokbindning var nog ganska komplicerat så jag sydde ihop alla sidorna på mitt eget sätt

innan jag monterade in hela luntan i boken.

After making the smaller books I was ready for a bigger project....a journal 16x21 cm,

with 56 pages. 

Efter ha gjort några mindre böcker var jag redo för ett större projekt. 

Det blev en bok 16x21 cm med 56 sidor.

No embossing on this one....I crumbled the paper before it dried to make it

look like leather. Died with tea and stained with brown Archival ink.

Ingen embossing på den här...knölade ihop papperet ordentligt innan det 

torkade för att få det att se läderartat ut. Te och brun Archival dyna.

I had so much fun making theese covers, I'm sure I'll make many more but

now I'm really excited to try out the new DecoArt Chalk Paint so I guess the

notebook production is on hold for now.

Jätteroligt att kladda med papper och Glycerin och jag kommer säkert att 

fortsätta boktillverkningen men nu är jag så sugen på att testa dom nya

Chalk Paint färgerna från DecoArt så jag får nog ta en paus i bok-

tillverkningen 

Recycling old packaging....

Recycling is my absolute favorite theme, I love to take  strange old things and turn 

them into new strange things.

 When the Design Team over  at StampARTic was doing an article about recycling 

old packaging I made an Art Journal. Another source of inspiration was Nathalie

Kalbach Creative Jumpstart 2014, the 2014 edition is all about using household

objects in your creative process.

Återvinning är mitt absoluta favorit tema, jag älskar att leta upp gamla märkliga saker och 

förvandla dom till något nytt... och ofta märkligt :) 

När DT teamet på StampARTic gjorde ett inlägg med återvinning av förpackningar 

gjorde jag en Art Journal. En annan inspirationskälla till det här projektet var Nathalie 

Kalbach Creative Jumpstart 2014, årets upplaga handlar om att använda saker man 

kan hitta i ett vanligt hem i sitt skapande.

The front is embossed in an embossing folder from Spellbinders (ornamental swirl)

 and painted with Silks Acrylic Glaze from Luminarte in blue and purple. (Bolivian

blue and Pomegranate) The book is full of sheets that is cut from old envelopes. 

A great paper quality, almost like Manila cardstock..

The corners are from my general "junk collection" and has served on a office 

binder as corner reinforcements

over a piece of netting from a mesh bag that have contained fruit.

över en bit av ett nät som från början är en nätpåse som har innehållit frukt.

If you cut up an aluminum can .... you have a thin aluminum plate that works great 

to emboss in an embossing folder.

Klipper man upp en aluminiumburk....så har man en tunn aluminiumplåt

som funkar fint att embossa.
