The Past Few Weeks...

This beautiful wreath came to existence.  It was a gift for my Auntie who lives in Oklahoma.  It's a bit pink for me, but she loved it!  Ornament wreath making should definitely be a year round craft.  So fun!
We drove out there for a long weekend and had a great time.  And The Little Dude was a peach, it was amazing!  Auntie knows how to make this chick happy, Pyrex and make-up! T Thank you!  And lets take a minute to admire that vanity.  It was in a cute little boutique store in the middle-of-no-damn-where Texas.  I wanted to stick that little turquoise bug in my pocket and take it home!  It was fantastic!  My favorite find in Oklahoma is the bakelite bracelet on the left.  Big and thick, and only $8!  Score one for me!
I had some yummy drinks over the past few weeks too.  The top left is a cucumber margarita that was to die for!!!  Totally going to have to make that one at home.  The bottom left a tangerine gimlet  whose recipe magically appeared to me on Pinterest one night.  It worked perfectly because it utilized the only drink ingredients we had.  Serendipity right there folks.  : )
It's hard for us to have plants outside here due to the massive herd of deer in the neighborhood (and snow), but I've been itching to do something springy.  These succulents scratched that itch for now.  Do you have a deer problem too?  Any tips or tricks to keep them from eating your plants?
The Mom spotted this fun key chain at the thrifts and graciously let me buy it!  One can never have to many globes!  It's pretty old too.  I can barely make out USSR, but I'm pretty sure it's there.
My cat was a wierdo.  Caption this!
OH, MY, HOLY CRAP!!!  This lamp...it's freakin' fantastic.  It is a heat lamp originally but I just replaced the bulb with a fancy Edison bulb and voila... awesome industrial looking lamp.  Keeper!
There was an industrial theme around my house this week apparently.  A quick trip to Home Depot and I was able to make my own version of this pin.  Quick, easy and relatively cheap - my kind of project!
The Mom and I went to the Horseshoe Market in Denver on Saturday and because we were one of the first 50 people in line, we got a great swag bag.  So many wonderful goodies!  That is such a fun market to go to.  They have three more this year so if you're local, check it out.
The Little Dude painted this pot for me for Mother's Day!  Isn't is precious?!  I totally melted.  Nothing is sweeter than a little kid (and husband) excitedly presenting his handmade creation to you.  My heart damn near exploded out of my chest!
The Mom and me...almost thirty years ago!  Ain't she purtty?!
Thankfully, The Mom convinced me to buy this little cabinet meant for perm rods.  It has three drawers and that snazzy metal top.  It's awesome!!!
Yup, that's snow...  I keep trying to tell myself we need the moisture, but still... couldn't it have rained instead?  : )
We're all still waiting for some of you to jump onto Instagram...

Thrift Haul and Booth Update

Good gravy...have you ever just had one of those days were it seems like everything in your brain is negative and grumpy?  That's what I have going on right now.  Too many early mornings.  The Little Dude needs to get over this phase fast because I'm not going to last much longer!   Hopefully revisiting my fantastic haul with this post will help bring me out of my funk.
I have super mixed feelings about this beautiful set of Primaries.  The thrift decided to start putting their "collectible" Pyrex in the case with very high price tags.  That just pisses me off because it's a thrift store, not an antique shop.  Get over yourself.  Here's where I get conflicted.  It actually worked out for me.  I went in on half off day and there they were, still in the case, not separated or banged up, and most importantly - HALF OFF!  Ugh, I don't know...
At the same store mentioned above, I found these on the regular shelves.  And aside from having something yucky spilled on them they are perfect.  Not a single scratch.  So confused!  That adorable little ducky candle still has the Gurley tag on the bottom.

At one of the thrifts, an employee came up to tell me about these great table clothes (one is a Vera) she just put out.  "You look like someone who would like that kind of thing."  At first I was confused, then I realized I was wearing my Grandpa's old plaid work shirt, vintage jewelry, and a polka dotted scarf in my hair.  Yup, I totally looked like someone who would enjoy that kind of thing!  It was super nice of her.
These Libbey glasses came from the same store.  This is one of those, "I LOVE them, but can't keep everything" moments.  I listed them on Etsy.
Ain't she a beauty?!  And dang near perfect too.  It was a good week for me and Pyrex.

I walked into an estate sale with The Little Dude in one arm, spotted these Friendship bowls and walked out with them in the other!  Normally I wait to go without the kiddo (because he's heavy and grabby), but I knew this one was going to be good so I got there as early as I could.  I'm so glad I did, the orange one already sold!
I went back the next day and scored a few little odds and ends.  It was kind of surprising that the pink jar was still there on the second day.  The few bits of Christmas stuff had to be dug for, worth it though.  And keys, glorious keys!  They are quickly becoming my new favorite thing to collect.
This is my favorite find of the week, probably of the year actually.  I've always wanted one of these spools to use as a table.  And this one is in great shape and still has nice graphics on the top!  Now it just needs to stop snowing we could go out to the deck and actually enjoy it.
The antique mall had another vendor night last night so I took the time to change the chalkboard back to an old favorite and move things around.  It was really nice to have some chill, no grumpy ass kid whining at me time.  : )
So how has the start of the junking season been treating you guys?  Anyone score anything ridiculously cool yet? Speaking of ridiculously cool, did you see Melissa's suitcase bonanza?  Check it out here and enter her giveaway!  And, does anyone have any tips or advice to get a toddler to stay in bed past 5 am?  HELP!!!

A Few Fun Estate Sale Finds

The thrifts have been a bit stingy for me lately.  Thank goodness for estate sale season!  I hadn't planned on driving out to this particular sale, but ended up with some time to kill on so I made the trek out there.
Squueeeeeeee!  Vintage Christmas!  The knee huggers have had a rough life, but they're still cute and will be great on a wreath.  Plus, check all those little bulbs!  These guys made the long drive totally worth it.
And it gets better.  That two hole punch is so cool.  I can't seem to find another example of it online.  Have you ever seen one before?  And the squirrel!  I'm pretty sure he's a dream pet, but his tag was ripped off so I'm not certain.
Can you believe there isn't a single Pyrex photo in either one of these magazines?!  That's ok though because that BH&G is FULL of  wonderful mid century furniture and decor. It's going to be so much fun to go through this with more time!  And the little cookbook on the right drew me in with it's cover.  It's from 1939.
The dude that ran this estate sale was pretty excited about this bait bucket.  He hadn't seen it and was surprised no one else had either.  I got the good stuff eagle eyes man!!!  Plus, the other side of it says "HI" so it kind of called to me.  Hi!

We just got back from a little vacation to Florida, and I have to tell you guys.  It's nice to be back, though I could have gone without the snow greeting!!!  It's like all my treasures were waiting to greet me when I got home.  It was a very warm and fuzzy feeling.  Do you find that you appreciate your vintage goodies and collections a bit more than usual after being away from home for a while?  I sure do!

Thrift Haul in Technicolor - Part 2

Here is the continuation of the spectacular haul (Part 1) I had a few weekends ago.  Why can't every weekend be like this one was?  Because I'd be freaking broke, that's why!  Ha!

I'll open with what is probably my favorite item from this haul.  That afghan!!!  The colors are just so perfect for my house it's unreal.  And it's so nicely done.  I'm in love!  The lady of the house was pretty dang good with a needle and thread too.  This embroidered deer table runner is impeccably done and the crochet edging is just perfect.  I was really hesitant to take it to the booth.  And that sewing kit is awesome!  I love anything with a kissing clasp.
Isn't this just a pretty picture?  I was so happy to finally thrift some good Pyrex!  They went to the booth while the fabulous blue pencil sharpener went to my Etsy shop.
I have no clue as to what I'm going to do with these, but I HAD to have them.
Vintage Easter!  The little ducky and bunny have spun cotton heads and are actually little pieces of foil wrapped candy.  And who can resist a honeycomb Easter egg?  Not me, that's for sure!
I have a thing for old pencil sharpeners I guess.   This one is super heavy and very sleek looking.  They always sell well for me online, so I listed it on Etsy *SOLD!*.  And the neat old clamps will be available for sale on Instagram before I move them to Etsy.  Aren't they cool looking?
These were in a bag under a table in the garage at the estate sale.  A great find, though  I could have totally gone without the giant spider that came screaming out the second I touched the bag.  I screeched like a little girl, everyone turned.  It was ridiculous!  Anyway, the bag had 6 of the honeycomb bells, two foil stars and one foil garland.  They gave it to me for $1!  SCORE!!!
Another beautiful example of her stellar stitching skills.  She did 6 pieces in this set.  Does anyone know what each piece would have been used for?  I'm guessing a few of them were hankies, but otherwise I'm stumped.
Stumped again.  Was this meant to be a wall hanging? I love the scene on this piece.
The Husband asked me where the funeral was when I brought this home!  Phooey on that!  I'm almost as in love with this rain coat as I am the afghan..  It's a bit big on me, but I think it could be altered relatively easily.
The estate sales are heating up around here.  There are two in a little town not far from me that I'm thinking about hitting.  I would love to be the early bird that gets the worm but The Little Dude wouldn't be nearly as thrilled.  And I'm not a huge fan of that whole standing in line and competing with others to get the goods thing.  I'd rather poke around and take my time.  Ya know, enjoy myself!  I can't handle the stress otherwise.
Are you an early bird or an, "I'll get there when I get there" type when it comes to estate sales?

This Past Week...

My cats were feeling frisky!  (Sorry, it couldn't be helped)  "You aren't busy, are you Mom?"
"You need to brush your teeth?  Really?  Don't bother me with such trivial things human.  I don't care."
Got my green on at the booth.
These were in a box that my aunt brought over a few weeks ago.  They belonged to my Grandma and I'm keeping them (no take backs)! Unless The Grandma wants them, and even she'll have to fight me for them.  : )  The one on the right has the funniest annoyed facial expression.
Yeah for Pie Day!  Did anyone celebrate with some actual pie, or dare I say it, math?
This is by our front door.  I didn't have many letters to choose from, but that's ok because rare describes us pretty well.
I made these mushrooms last year and still love them.  This is my offering to spring.  More of a demand really...
Vintage Easter!  That little spun cotton ducky is actually a piece of super old candy that someone didn't unwrap.  So cute!  And the little honeycomb eggs...adorable!
This was a little treat to myself since my booth sales are doing so well.  I'm not sure which convinces me to buy Benefit more, the nice makeup or the fun packaging!
The Best Buds actual 30th was this weekend, so we did some more celebrating.  This was her Bellini Martini and it was super gross (it reminded me why I stick to wine and beer), but the mermaid was wicked cute.
And I had SPECTACULAR luck at the thrifts this weekend!  Oh, I can't even explain how much I needed that.
My Little Brother left for Afghanistan and I miss him.  I know it's his job and he's damn proud of what he does (as he should be and I am), but it still sucks that he has to go so far for so long.   Stay safe little brother!

So I see a lot of you still aren't on Instagram...what is that about?!  Get with the program people!  Geesh!

This Past Week...

The back splash is finished!  Holy crap, it looks SOOOOOOOOO much better.  I blogged about it here, I'm pretty dang proud of it.  Thank you for all the encouragement and nice words guys!  You're the BEST!
I'm not sure who was more startled, me or the owl.
The Little Dude fell asleep in my lap as we were watching Dumbo.  My dumbass continued watching it and I cried like a fool at the "baby of mine" scene.  Dang Disney...tugs at the heart strings.
Six more inches of snow fell on top of what we already had here.  I know it's nothing compared to what some of you have gotten, but we haven't had snow like this in a really long time so it's pretty exciting.
It's so nice to be at a point in my life where I am able to embrace my strangeness.  : )
Little by little I'm adding to my Valentine's Day decor.  I bought these sweet cards from Shara via Instagram.
This is Benji.  Soak it all up...the cute drips off this little dude.
And this is Benson.  Yup, that's right, there's two!  These cutey patooties belong to my parents and they are the squishiest, sweetest little puppy wuppy faces ever.   Sorry about that... 0_o
Stop.  Just stop dude, it's too much. Ugh...so cute!!!
Ok, enough of that.  Check out this pretty little ring I thrifted the other day.  The stone is super clear and bright, though I have no clue what it is.  It could be glass for all I care, I still like it.
These curtains are cute right?  I used some flour sack towels I had and thought I was a damn genius!  Well five minutes later, reality came crashing down onto my counter, knocking over a few plants in the process.  I'm going to try again, but this time I'll secure the saggy center of the rod.  Live and learn I guess... I'm still a bit salty about it.
And last but not least, I bought this and told The Husband it was his to give to me.  He didn't get it at first.  HA!!!  Sometimes I crack myself up!  Look at that face...terrifying!
I sent The Husband a few hints for what he could get me for Valentine's Day, should he feel so inclined.  I hate to do that, but I also hate when I get bugged at him for getting me something weird/expensive/nothing because he didn't know what to get.  I'm just trying to help him out!
Do you drop hints to your main squeeze when gift giving time rolls around or do you just let them figure it out?

Instagram.  It's awesome.  No joke.
