Yankees Fight Back To Beat Orioles 5-3 [David Stefanini]

Joba Chamberlin looked like he was on his way to his second loss of the season, but Johnny Damon hit a three-run home run in the top of the 7th inning to give the Yankees a 5-3 victory. Joba pitched 6 innings while giving up three runs and striking out five. The Yankees offense once again looked out of sink, but found a way to win the game.

Everyone in Yankee world needs to relax a little bit a take a deep breath. The weather is starting to warm up which means C. C. Sabathia and Mark Teixeira are going to start producing like they usually do. The fans at the Stadium who are booing these guys when they go out on the field have every right to do so. However, it is important to note that both of these players are slow starters who produce better results as the season goes on. Sabathia pitched a gem his last start, and Tex belted his 7th home run of the season.

The most important thing to take out of this game is how Mariano Rivera pitched. We all know the bullpen is going to be an achilles heel of this team all season long, but what non of us expect is Mo' to continue to struggle. Everytime his name is mentioned on WFAN or ESPN radio, I hear questions about is this the year he finally begins to break down? I think he is not from this planet and he will continue to get better with age, so to see him go out and not give up a hit is a very good sign to all Yankee fans that Mo' is ok. Once he gets back to being himself he'll likely stay that way for the rest of the season.

Torre's Future Remains Unclear, and so Does Mo's [David Stefanini]

Mariano Rivera has not been quite as to who he wants managing the New York Yankees next season. Joe Torre is his guy, and if the Yanks want to resign him, they may want to think twice about letting Torre ago.
Rivera has said, "I don't see why they're even thinking [about letting Torre go]. I wish he's back, definitely. If you ask me what I would want, I want him back."
When asked about how he plans on opting out of his contract, Rivera said, "I'm going to be open to hear all offers...The Yankees had the opportunity and didn't do nothing with it."
Rivera isn't happy that Joe Torre could be fired as manager of Yankees and said the team's decision will be factored into whether or not he returns.
I doubt very much that Rivera will leave the Yankees, no matter who is the manager. Torre is more than likely gone, and Rivera is probably looking for a way to get the Yanks worried so they'd throw more money is way. He has a great relationship with Torre, but he also has a great fan base here, and is a part of this Yankee's organization. I'd be shocked if he left the team.

Bagels...Baseball...And Can You Smell the Hot Dogs? [J. Mark English]

For the Yanks, it was a day for pitchers and catchers to report. The Mets pitchers and catchers will report two days from now. Lets take a look at some of the top stories surrounding the Bronx Bombers:
  • Mariano Rivera stirs the straw early on in Spring Training, speculating as to whether or not he'll be returning next year. (Whoever has to manager this team without Rivera, will learn the harsh realities of life without certainty.)
  • Joel Sherman on the cold, harsh logic that Brian Cashman has displayed over the past off season.
  • Mark Feinsand has more on the apparent ending of Bernie William's career with the Yankees.
  • Jim Baumbach looks ahead to even more possible endings concerning the Bombers, with visions into what may come of Joe Torre's career.
