HOOOORAAY for Forty!!

My friends -, if you know me you probably just collapsed short of breath to hear those words come out of my mouth. I swore I was never going to say it, nope never - ever - ever!! It has been 6 excruciating months since my 40th birthday BUT, I just did say it. Yes FINALLY just ONE good thing about turning forty (ugh, just the thought going through my mind made me grow 10 grey hairs out of my head). I will eventually get to the point... just bear with me for a minute.

Tonight I have so many things to be grateful for, here are a few on my list:

1. Two darling kids who generally try their best to be good, do what is right, listen, are kind to everyone, and love their mom even on the days when she is cRaZy!

2. A good husband, who takes care of us, works hard and likes to play just as hard, who loves me despite my many weakness's, who helps around the house and does all kinds of honey do's. Yes, he is my man and best friend.

3. Four sisters and a mom & dad - Yes they Rock!

4. Diet Dr. Pepper (nough said)

5. Sunshine and Rainy Days - Yes I adore them both!

6. Two Hands with 5 Fingers each

7. Bissell Carpet Cleaner

8. Oh and did I mention Diet Dr. Pepper?

9. The Internet

10. Paper Towels (whoever invented them, is my hero)

11. A Mega Can of Aussie Hair Spray, - flexible hold, - Makes sure your style doesn't let you down. Which brings me back to my Fortieth Birthday (UG! My Stomach Just Churned)

Little did my YOUNGER sister's know how inspired they were when they put that MEGA can of Aussie hair spray in my birthday basket 6 months ago. (YIKES, that just made me realize that I will be turning 41 in 6 more months.... heavens! I still haven't gotten over the remorse of the last one.) Hairspray... yes Hairspray my new favorite birthday present. I have been enjoying it for a little while now, but I never knew how much I would come to love that purple mega can of sticky stuff.

While I was making Tortilla Soup for my sweetie tonight (one of his favorites), I realized that I didn't have the two cans of chili beans that I needed. So, as I was leaving to run to the store for my two cans of beans Alicyn says "would you like some company" as she lets the dog in the house. I always love to have her company! Zach was sitting at the computer playing a game. Dave was in the bedroom relaxing while watching the Jazz Game. I was only going to be a few minutes. I just jotted down 5 things or so that I decided to grab while at the store. I came home to find a very upset sweetie, and cute little Zach. Apparently Lexi (dog) found a ball point pen and chewed it up. Dave proceeded to tell me about how she ran through the house. Sure enough there were the DARK BLUE INK SPOTS all around the whole living room.

Now, let me paint the picture in your mind if I can.....

Yes!! But instead of cat prints.... large blue dots from the paws of our dog Lexi.

So with a fuming husband, kids that are starving, I focus on dinner first. I talk with Zach about his day at school. He went to his back pack and pulled out a yellow paper. He was so excited to show me that he won the reading minutes in his class for the month of February. He is reading so much, I am so proud and happy that he is gaining a love for books. That will be another post

I asked Ali to go to the computer and "Google" - "How to get ink out of carpet" while I was chopping chicken, & worrying about what I was going to do with the horrible sight.
She found a web page and started reading to me. I couldn't pay much attention to what she was reading since I had to get all the food finshed up, then had to have her pause for a bit to eat dinner.
During dinner Zach proceeded to tell me that he noticed Lexi was chewing a pen, so he started to try and clean it up. As Zach was trying to clean up ink, Dave came down from the bedroom to check on the pots I left on the stove.

He asked Zach what had happened and Zach said "Lexi was chewing on a pen, I am cleaning it up". Bless his little heart!! Now, I just picture the color coming into Dave's face and the dog running around the room to find a place to escape.... with ink in tow.

NOW, I am in NO WAY implying that my husband is a woman...

I just picture what his face looked like when he looked at the dog, this is whatcame to mind, only more masculine like. ;)

After dinner we had family prayer and I tucked the kids in bed. I went to the page that Ali had found for me on the internet and proceeded to read many entries about "ink" and "carpet". One caught my eye. It mentioned hair spray. I have hair spray!! I have the purple Aussie MEGA can!! I proceeded to find my new favorite birthday present and tried it on a spot of lovely dark, dark blue ink.

HOLY COW!!

It was working!!!

The acetone in hairspray breaks up ink. I spent an hour and a half on my hands and knees blotting up ink spots around my living room. Near the computer desk there was - (WAS is the right word) a long smear of ink about 6 inches long. I am sure that is where Zach first noticed the dog and her mischief, and tried to help out.

So for now, I have an aching back and dried up -cracked fingers but I don't have any ink left in my carpet. After the hairspray, I took my trusty Bissell can of carpet cleaner and scrubbed all around the living room once more. YIPPEE!! I have clean carpet spots....and dirty carpet. Ho Hum, can't win. It is 1:40 am and I just had to share my adventure of this most pleasant evening of crawling around on my hands and knees.

I will reassess my ink spots in the morning, and get out the the Big Bissell if needed. For tonight, I will let my family sleep without any more moans and scrubbing sounds coming from the living room.

As for the dog... she has officially been banned from the house ... for now. I am sure that will change eventually. Hence, the reason why I purposely did not take any pictures of the ink spots around the living room. I surely don't need to remind him of what it looked like. I wish my dog would grow out of this chewing thing... it has been 4 years now...NOT A PUPPY ANYMORE.... Nighty Night!
