Al Robi (Elvin Robichaud)1922-2007: Born in Massachusetts in 1922. As a child learned how to make linocuts from an elder brother. After World War II he settled in New York City, attending Cooper Union Art School and later the Art Students League. He earned his living for a number of years as a printmaker and is represented in New York by the Gallery Workshop. His linocuts are characterized by many layers of inks which form textures and broken colors as a foil to the whimsy of his usual subjects.
