State Labels - chalkboard

As an extention of our learning about the states of Australia Bubble and I played a matching game. I drew the least dodgy version of our country that I could manage on the chalkboard (including state lines) and gave Bubble the names of each state one by one. We sounded out the names together and she stuck them in their correct position, either by memory or by asking me for help. Once all the labels were up we played a "Where Is" game ("where is Queensland?" etc...).

WE USED:

* Chalkboard
* Chalk
* State labels written on paper
* BluTac

Map of Australia

Since we have started the 'A' wall I am using the opportunity to teach Bubble a bit more about Australia and the state names. I made her a simple puzzle to do as a gluing activity to introduce the names and give her a visual representation of how the country is set out by using different colours for each area. This map was just traced from the net, but you could use any size image with as much detail as you like (such as capital cities, population, settlement dates etc...).
