In the Moodle for a Doodle

I was really quite taken with this week's "doodlelicious" challenge theme at Passion for Promarkers. I do like to doodle and draw, and doodling on a card can look fabulous.

I decided to combine the doodling challenge with the new "Anything Goes" challenge at A Day for Daisies and used this stunning ADFD digi stamp:

I coloured the image with my Promarkers and fussy cut around it:

I then cut a piece of white card slightly smaller than my card blank and used fineliner pens to outline sections and then filled them in with flowery doodles:

I attached my doodled background to the card blank using foam tape, for a bit of added dimension...

...and then attached my cut-out image using foam pads to make it stand out that bit more from the background:

I'm really pleased with this. I think the doodled black and white background works really well with the colourful splash of the striking image. Am definitely going to be doing more doodled cards. :)

WOYWW 199

Am pleased to report that, so far, the tidyness of the desk has - mostly - continued. :)

(Admittedly, I did have a wee quick tidy around before taking this photo!)

The tray in front of the Cameo has gained quite a bit more content though, though a large part of it is my stack of printed-out digi stamps awaiting my colouring pleasure and also some paper remnants awaiting putting away properly.

The main crafting area of the desk contains the results of a quick bit of Tuesday night crafting:

There's a digi stamp (one of my own designs! :D) awaiting colouring, a sheet of gemstone stickers and an embossed piece of card that was a possible alternative background for the completed card.

I made this card for the "White Embossed Background" challenge at A Day For Daisies. I've done a couple of white on white/primarily white cards lately using embossing for detail and texture and it's such a lovely effect so I couldn't resist entering this challenge.

I actually coloured this gorgeous A Day For Daisies image (I just looove her hair and her big eyes and long neck!) a couple of months ago and it's been sitting around on my desk every since awaiting the right card project. And this is it. :) I cut a tentfold card blank and used a Tim Holtz embossing folder. I added ribbon and gemstones and fussy cut out the image and attached it with foam pads, letting it slightly overhang the edge of the card.

That's it for me this week. Check out Julia's Stamping Ground blog for the full list of WOYWW desks to visit. :)

Sweet Baby

I made this card last night for a mum who takes her daughter to the same Rhythm Time class as my DD2. We've met up once or twice for playdates outside of class and she's just recently started coming back to class after having her second child (another girl) in January:

I thought it'd be nice to give her a little something but didn't want to do a traditional "congratulations/new baby" card as the actual event was a couple of months ago now! So I thought this A Day For Daisies dig stamp of a mum cuddling her baby would be perfect for a card welcoming her to the "mum to two girls" club!

I chose some gorgeous floral papers in spring colours (more magazine freebies) and used my Promarkers (my replacement Putty Promarker has arrived - yay!) to colour the image to match the papers:

I layered the papers and added a doily and cut around the image to layer it over the doily. I added a "Sweet Baby" sentiment (Stampin' Up! Itty Bitty Banners stamp and matching Framelit) and finished things off with some pretty flowers...

..and a little butterfly charm:

Unfortunately, I didn't get to give the card to its intended recipient this morning, as DD2 woke up with a bit of a temperature and feeling a bit under the weather and clingy, so we didn't go to her Rhythm Time class. Ah well, it will have to wait till next week. :)

Oh the weather outside is frightful...

...but in here it's so delightful... :)

A Christmas song, I know, but nonetheless appropriate. Everything's still very snowy out there but it's nice and warm in here. :) Technically, we should be out and about in the snow this morning (thank goodness we have a 4x4!) but I've skived off going to DD2's Rhythm Time class this morning cos I am absolutely shattered... I stayed up too late crafting, which wouldn't have been a problem, except DD2 chose last night to wake up in the early hours and shout the place down. So instead of getting 6 hours sleep, which I could have lived with, I got 2 lots of around 3 hours sleep. Which has left me feeling like death warmed over. Eeesh.

Anyway, here's what kept me up late last night. I made this card for this week's Whatever the Weather challenge at Passion for Promarkers:

I used a sweet digi stamp from A Day For Daisies and coloured it with my Promarkers and used a Flexmarker for a wash of colour in the background:

I used magazine freebie papers (as ever!), pale yellow pearlised card and a doily and finished things off with some blossoms, gemstones and a yellow bow (that I upcycled - I have a handful of these that I was given along with the ownership certificate when we bought DD1 a teddy from Build a Bear Workshop!)

I'm also entering this card into the Add Some Red challenge at A Day For Daisies. :)

Pop It Up!

That's the current challenge at the A Day For Daisies blog and there's some gorgeous freebie musical butterflies digi stamps to download and use...

I wanted to keep my card really clean and simple:

I printed and cut out the digi stamp several times in a couple of sizes and then used Distress Inks on my craft mat to colour the largest butterfly. The colours looked so yummy that I thought they'd look fabulous just contrasted against a plain white card. I folded a card blank to make a mini easel card and attached my butterflies so that they were "fluttering" up the card, layering the patterned butterflies over the plain ones and folding up the wings on the top ones.

A sentiment stamp (by Stampotique) finished things off nicely.

Autumn Leaves

That's the seasonal theme at Passion for Promarkers this week - not just autumn colours but an autumn image and leaves.

So I decided to use this sweet little image from A Day For Daisies. It's coloured with Promarkers - natch - and I used a sort of pointilist technique for the sky/background:

I went for a sort of rough, windblown look for the card with lots of ripped/distressed edges, some rough twine and a scattering of leaves.

I'm also entering this card into a few other challenges:

Happy Birthday Marie-Ann

My niece turns 21 this month. Unfortunately we can't make it to the "do" as small children and evening events over 2 hours drive away are not a good combination. So we're heading down to the wilds of Lincolnshire this afternoon to say hello and drop off a card and gift.

And this is the card I've made for her:

This pretty image is an A Day for Daisies digi stamp and I coloured her with Promarkers and inked the edges with Distress Inks. I used an old book page (from The Iliad, if anyone's interested! :D) for the background and coloured it with Distress Inks and Perfect Pearls (it has a lovely shimmer in real life). I used Tim Holtz Idea-ology numbers, coloured with alcohol ink, and added a die cut flourish (from a Memory Box die) and some flowers and a stamped greeting to finish.

I think this came out really bright and pretty but without being too little girly. I hope. :)

Shaped Cards? Hai!

The challenge at Passion for Promarkers this week is to make a shaped card - basically anything that's not a rectangle/square! I liked this challenge cos I must admit I do get a bit lazy occasionally and keep on using the same old square card blanks for my creations. So it was good to think outside of the box a bit.

I had a gorgeous geisha digi stamp that I picked up recently from A Day For Daisies that I was dying to play with and I had the idea of wanting to put a kind of "rising sun" image behind her. And that led to this:

I coloured the geisha with my Promarkers and cut her out and then I made a stepper card base. I cut a piece of card with a rounded top to fit on the back section of the stepper and then cut gold mirror card and patterned paper into sunrays to fit onto it. I matted more patterned paper onto mirror card to fit on the front section of the card and attached the geisha image over it.

Am entering this card into the following challenges:

Passion for Promarkers - Shaped Cards
Inspire Me Fridays - Anything Goes
Stampin With The Dragon - Anything but a Square or Rectangle
Moving Along With The Times - Shape Up - Anything But Square
Colour Me Creative - Use Blacks/Dark Greys

Mermaids everywhere!!

They do seem to be something of a recurring theme in my crafting atm... this is, what, my third mermaid card in just over 2 weeks?

However, I'm blaming this one squarely on Julie. I loved her DT card for this weeks "At the Beach" challenge at Passion for Promarkers so much that I had to head over to her blog for a closer look... and then I had to go and have a look at where she got the cute mermaid in a jar image from... and that was me falling in love with and buying a bunch of A Day For Daisies digi stamps then! Including the one I used on this card:

I coloured her with Promarkers and added some Stickles highlights and even a bit of real sand ("borrowed" from my daughters' sandpit! :D). I used scrummy paper from the Crafty Individuals "The Seaside" 6x6 paper pad and some pearlescent cardstock for matting. I added a ruffle of turquoise chiffon ribbon and, for a real seaside touch, a couple of pieces of real Scottish sea glass, sent to me by my good friend Lisa. :)

I'm entering this card into the following challenges:

Inky Impressions - Ribbon
Crafts and Me - Use a Digi
Emerald Fairies - Bling
Avadares - Anything Goes
