The Veeram pattern to continue in 'Thala 56' too
Ajith's next film after he completes work on his current project with Gautham Menon (Thala 55), would be with director Siva as reported earlier. This film would begin its production in November and at the moment scripting, pre-production work is going on.
Though we don't know for sure about the production house that would be funding this project or the main cast members, we have come to know now that editor Kasi Viswanathan who worked with the duo in Veeram, would be editing this film as well.
Chennai Box-Office - Ajith's Veeram leads the pack thus far ...
The second half of the year has started with a bang, thanks to the grand opening of Dhanush's Velai Illa Pattathari. There are more biggies around the corner with Anjaan being the next big 'event release'.
The first half of the year was packed with many big grossers, sleeper hits and films which had a great return on investment (ROI). Here we present to you the top 5 box-office grossers in Chennai city, based on the data that we at Behindwoods estimated. It must be noted that this data is not the official one.
The data that we present is the gross amount that these movies collected from their theatrical run in Chennai city till their respective 50th days, and has nothing to do with entertainment tax or net or distributors share or ROI.
Please note that there are other movies with superior return on investment like Yaamirukka Bayamey, Goli Soda, Manja Pai, Mundasupatti and Thegidi, but they haven't made it into the list of Top 5 grossers. And all the movies listed here don't necessarily count as hits due to factors like their big budgets, entertainment tax and such
1. Veeram - 6.14 crores
2. Jilla - 5.68 crores
3. Kochadaiiyaan - 5.63 crores
4. Maan Karate - 4.80 crores
5. Idhu Kathirvelan Kadhal - 3.71 crores
Kochadaiiyaan and Veeram grab the top spots
The first 6 months
of the year 2014 have passed by, and the year has seen a fair share of
hits and misses. There have been a sizeable number of films featuring
superstars which have earned the big bucks, and also content-oriented
films which haven't done much harm to their small investments.
In the USA, a market which is dominated by films featuring the big
Tamil superstars (Rajini, Kamal, Vijay, Ajith, Suriya and Vikram) and
also big directors like Shankar, films like Kochadaiiyaan, Veeram and
Jilla have done well in the first half of the year.
Here we present a list of the Top 5 Tamil box-office grossers in the
USA (excluding Canada), in the first half of the year. All these movies
were distributed by ATMUS Entertainment.
1. Kochadaiiyaan (Tamil version) - around 633,000 USD, the Hindi and Telugu versions contributed another 30,000 USD
2. Veeram - 243,955 USD
3. Jilla - 230,221 USD
4. Maan Karate - 73,015 USD
5. Idhu Kathirvelan Kadhal - 33,273 USD
Biggies such as Anjaan, Kaththi, 'Thala 55', Uttama Villain, Lingaa,
Vishwaroopam 2 and Ai, are expected to take the US by storm in the
coming months.
A landmark moment for Ajith's Veeram
Ajith and director Siva's Pongal offering, Veeram enters its 50th day today in a few screens across Tamil Nadu. The film was lapped up by Ajith fans and family audiences and made use of the Pongal release time to rake in the moolah over the first few weeks. It emerged with big collections in Tamil Nadu and also in overseas markets and neighboring states.
After Arrambam's success, Ajith has made it a back to back victory with Veeram. Behindwoods wishes the team of Veeram on their well-deserved 'Paisa Vasool' success. With talks of the Ajith - Siva duo uniting for one more film in the near future, we are expecting an even bigger hit the next time.
