After all the years that have passed since I first heard it, this remains one of my favourite mashups:
It's "Wonderwall of Broken Dreams" - a mashup of Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" with Oasis' "Wonderwall". On the pop music station my brother and I listened to in Oregon, it was easily the most played mashup on the station, helped significantly by the Open House Party we listened to every weekend.
"Wonderwall of Broken Dreams" has appeared in Air Nice-to-Livelands before, in a post from over six years ago.

Chester Bennington
Back on Thursday, it was reported that Chester Bennington, the lead singer of Linkin Park, had died; the cause was suicide via hanging:
Soon afterwards, there was a huge outpouring of grief on social media. Many people, including a large number of my friends, had been touched by the music Bennington had sang with Linkin Park; the band's music frequently contained references to depression and personal pain, as influenced by Bennington's own experiences. As such, Linkin Park's music was highly relatable for many and helped people with their own troubles.
In my case, Linkin Park were among the musical acts I first heard when I started listening to the radio back in late 2004, as that was when "Numb/Encore", from the Linkin Park/Jay-Z mashup album Collision Course, was released. My brother has Linkin Park in his music collection but we both like the band.
The BBC has an obituary about Bennington, which can be found here.

"Paper Planes" - M.I.A
A song by M.I.A., a British rapper, played during an advert I saw yesterday at the cinema. It's been a while since I last heard or thought about M.I.A.; I became aware of her in 2008/2009 when this song of hers played on American radio:
It's "Paper Planes", which is from Kala - her second studio album. "Paper Planes" is one of the songs that I associate so much with the summer of 2008 and with the great music of 2009.
As for the M.I.A. song I heard at the cinema, it was "Only 1 U" from Matangi, her fourth studio album:

"Places" - Martin Solveig featuring Ina Wroldsen
I've been listen to the radio on some mornings recently. This is a song that's been playing and growing on me:
It's "Places" by Martin Solveig, a French DJ, and features Ina Wroldsen, a Norwegian singer and songwriter. Good songs like this one remind me of what I'm missing by rarely listening to the radio.
The radio edit can be found here.

"Hey, Soul Sister" - Train
A popular song from my family's final months in the United States:
It's "Hey, Soul Sister" by Train and comes from Save Me, San Francisco, the band's fifth studio album. This song played a lot on US radio from its release in August 2009 until my family left in June 2010. As a result, "Hey, Soul Sister" is a song I associate with us moving out of the United States.
I last wrote an article involving Train here.

"(There's Gotta Be) More to Life" - Stacie Orrico
Back in late 2004 when I first started to listen to the radio, this was a song that would occasionally play at that time:
It's "(There's Gotta Be) More to Life" by Stacie Orrico, taken from her self-titled second studio album. If I recall correctly, by the time I first started to hear this song it had already had its chart run; I was only listening to the very tail end of its primary time on the radio. I heard it maybe a handful of times afterwards and now only hear it on YouTube, as I don't actually have Orrico's album.

"Freak Like Me" - Adina Howard
On the same day, in the same store I heard Angie Stone's "Wish I Didn't Miss You", I heard this song on the store radio:
The song is called "Freak Like Me", was released in 1995 and is by Adina Howard; it is her debut single and is from her debut album, Do You Wanna Ride? (1995). Prior to hearing "Freak Like Me" in the store, the last time I think I might have heard it would have been on Heart radio; however, the first I heard it would have been on American radio, most likely in a segment on KIFS (107.5 Kiss FM) called the "Back in the Day Cafe".

"The Ten Worst Songs of 2016" - A Dose of Buckley
Every year for the past several years, Adam Buckley from A Dose of Buckley has created a list of what he has deemed to be the "worst" song of each year. 2016 is no exception:
What makes Buckley's video different this year for me is that I'm barely familiar with any of the song, owing the fact I've hardly listened to pop radio for the past 18 months.

"United State of Pop 2016 (Into Pieces)" - DJ Earworm
The annual DJ Earworm mashup is here:
I regret to say that out of all of DJ Earworm's end-of-year mashups, this one I find hard to identify with because I've barely listened to hit radio this year and I don't really know what the popular songs are. Since I have a more active social and educational life now than I did in the summer of 2014, when I last listened heavily, I've no longer felt the need to fill the void with radio.
Still, I enjoyed "United State of Pop 2016 (Into Pieces)", as it's a good song regardless of how much I can identify with it.

"Give It Up" - KC and the Sunshine Band
The second song in my current line of feel-good tracks:
It's "Give It Up" by KC and the Sunshine Band, from their albums All in a Night's Work and KC Ten. The song was popular in the early eighties, even in the United States, where it reached #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart despite anti-disco sentiment in the nation at that time. I am most familar with this song through the Heart Radio network.

"Pray" - Take That
Time for a feel-good track, in the form of an early Take That song:
It's "Pray", released in 1993 from Everything Changes, the band's second studio album. I first heard "Pray" on the Heart Radio network when my family and I were all living in Cambridgeshire. I have no association with the song beyond hearing it in Cambridgeshire and in Northamptonshire, and finding it to be a track that boosts a good mood.

"Perfect Illusion" - Lady Gaga
Before I left for university, this song was gaining traction on the radio:
It's "Perfect Illusion" by Lady Gaga and it's the first single from Joanne, her fifth studio album, which is set for release late this month. "Perfect Illusion" has a different sound compared to much of Lady Gaga's previous work, leading some to refer to it as a "flop" (a nonsensical claim, as it debuted at #1 in the charts of some countries and reached the top 20 in the United States and United Kingdom), but the song has otherwise received strong praise and it would be silly for Lady Gaga to engage in anything resembling the releasing every couple of years of what sounds like the same song.
Nope, Lady Gaga is still as great as she was back in 2008, perhaps more so now than then. Go, Gaga!

"This Girl" - Kungs vs Cookin’ on 3 Burners
As I have been listening to Heart Radio over the summer, this has been one of my favourite songs I've heard this summer:
It's "This Girl" by Kungs and Cookin' on 3 Burners, featuring vocals from Kylie Auldist, an Australian singer. While I only heard the song recently, "This Girl" was originally released back in February. This particular track is a remix of Cookin' on 3 Burners' original track for "This Girl".

Daniel Powter's "Bad Day" - the Eivonjof Tropical Remix
In June 2012, I wrote about Daniel Powter, his 2006 hit, his troubles since then and his recovery. It has occurred to me several times this year that it's now been ten years since "Bad Day" was a huge success on American radio. Unfortunately, since that post of mine, Powter continues to be a one-hit wonder.
This evening, I listened to "Bad Day" as well as had a look for any remix versions of it; the first I found was the Eivonjof Tropical Remix:
Powter hasn't gone away, though; I found these two articles, which note that he is still active and wants to achieve a comeback. I would like to see another huge hit from him but I don't know if it's possible; even if he did achieve something as successful as or more than "Bad Day", I would hate it if he encountered difficulties again or experienced something akin to Robin Thicke, in which his relationship was destroyed and his former image tarnished. We'll have to see; I wish Powter all the best, regardless.

"Stronger" - Kanye West
As surprising as this might soung, I like this song:
It's "Stronger" by Kanye West, which is from his album Graduation and samples "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" by Daft Punk. I remember when this song started to play on American radio in 2007 - it changed my brother's and my opinion of West from negative to positive, as we thought the song was a huge improvement from what we'd heard from him before; we enjoyed some of the songs we heard from Graduation and the following album, 808s and Heartbreak.
West is seen as a bit of an egotistical buffoon in the public eye but compared to some people, he's harmless and "Stronger" is a good song, as are some of his other works.

Some interesting blog statistics
For the first time in a while, I looked at which pages on my blog have been viewed the most:
My "Who's on Heart?" posts dominate the board, as it is a popular segment whenever Heart radio plays it and it attracts tens of thousands of searches, at a minimum. I don't see the rankings here changing much for the time being; I'll post an updated screenshot of this in about a year.

"Breakfast at Tiffany's" - Deep Blue Something
Here's a song I would often hear back in the days when I frequently listened to Heart radio:
It's "Breakfast at Tiffany's" by Deep Blue Something, a band who are active but were most popular with this one song back in the mid-1990s. "Breakfast at Tiffany's" comes from Home, the band's second album. Unfortunately, Deep Blue Something are considered a one-hit wonder, as none of their subsequent singles enjoyed anywhere near the amount of success as "Breakfast at Tiffany's".
As for Heart, the last time I listened to it regularly was before September 2014.

"Don't Stop Movin'" - S Club 7
Some time back in 2014, I first heard this song on The Hits Radio:
The station played "Don't Stop Movin'" because S Club 7 reformed after being split for eleven years and this song was their biggest hit. I'd never heard of the band prior to their reunification but thought that "Don't Stop Movin'" was catchy enough to warrant some research into them and a listen to their music.
In the past week or two, something reminded me of the song and, as a result, I wanted to listen to it again.

"United State of Pop 2015 (50 Shades of Pop)" - DJ Earworm
DJ Earworm has released his annual mashup of the biggest hits:
I am familiar with most of the songs in this mashup but there are a few that I haven't heard; I have not been listening to the radio in 2015 as much as I have done in past years. In fact, the last time I listened to it was (I think) one evening back in October. Regardless, DJ Earworm has once again performed a good job with mashing up the year's hits.

Back to the radio
Yesterday evening, I listened to the radio for the first time in over a month, which ended my longest spell of not listening to the radio since I began listening to it back in December 2004. The main reason for my stop was because of the presence of my relatives but also because I was sick and didn't feel up to listening.
I am enjoying hearing pop music again. I don't appear to have missed much since my radio break, which started roughly in the middle of last month. I recognise most of the songs and many of the news ones I had heard of during my rest.
