Modern Living
I haven't done a post like this in a while so I thought I would today :)
I'm never really sure what people mean when they use the word 'modern' to describe a room. I guess they mean something that hasn't been done before, something new. The word 'modern' tends to conjure images like this
but as far as I can tell these kinds of spaces have been around for at least the last 10 years so what's so modern about them?! Is it the clean lines? The black and white colour scheme? The total lack of clutter? The perfectly coordinated accessories?! I guess these things are what makes this room modern but I would like to suggest a different definition. I feel as though we're heading further and further from this minimal, ultra coordinated look and much more in the direction of revival and mixing old with new. This to me is a much more modern (and forgive me for saying so, more interesting) way of styling a room. Here's why...
Make-do-and-mend
There's no doubt about it, living in a recession sucks! However if there's one good thing to come out of it it's creativity! People can't afford to toss all their old furniture when they feel like a change, they have to work with what they've got. This has resulted in some fantastic re-purposed or revamped furniture. Just check out these examples!![]() |
Colourful chair make-over courtesy of casadeestar.com.br |
![]() |
Coffee table made from re-purposed crates courtesy of homedesignboard.com |
People are less able to get exactly what they want, whether it's a small accessory or a big piece of furniture so they get creative! This kind of thinking has resulted in much more eclectic home decor styles. Homes are starting to look far less uniform as people make more unique decisions about not just what they buy but how they use and reuse it. The make-do-and-mend mentality is fast becoming a way of life and it's the homes that reflect this that I feel truly deserve the title 'modern.'
And because no post of this nature would be complete without them, here come the inspiration boards!
Modern Living Room
I really enjoy the freedom of this kind of decorating. Use what you have, experiment and see what you can get away with. You might be surprised how chic those old ornaments look once you take them out of the cupboard and arrange them on your mantle with a few of your favourite books. Even your old couch can look cool again with some funky new throw pillows tossed over it!Shop the Look:
1) 'April' throw pillow by Sophia Buddenhagen 4) 'Decorative Blue' throw pillow by Aimee St Hill 2) 'Amirah Red' throw pillow by Aimee St Hill 5) 'Ogee Green' tray by Aimee St Hill
3) 'Colorful Thoughts' art print by Bianca Green 6) 'Como 1' rug by Aimee St Hill
Modern Bedroom
Need a new headboard? Why not simply paint the one you already have! Better yet, buy a great piece of fabric and give it a padded make-over! Remember colour is your friend! Don't be afraid of combining unusual accessories, be bold with your choices! The more creative you can be, the more 'modern' your space will look!Shop the look:
1) 'Delilah' art print by Samantha Totty 4) 'Leela Navy' throw pillow by Aimee St Hill
2) 'Eve' art print by Samantha Totty 5) 'Geo Floral' blanket by Aime St Hill
3) 'Stripe2' throw pillow by Aimee St Hill
Modern Bathroom
Wallpaper is great way to update and bring character to your bathroom. If papering the entire room is out of your budget try simply covering a cabinet! Not only will it liven things up but it'll give the room a focal point. For a really modern look try adding additional furniture to your bathroom if you have the space. I just love how this old stepladder turned side table ties in with that unique Brian Yates wallpaper!Shop the look:
1) 'Teal' shower curtain by Bianca Green 4) 'Bright Tribal' shower curtain by Aimee St Hill
2) 'Amirah Blue' mirror by Aimee St Hill 5) 'Bright Roses' mirror by Aimee St Hill
3) 'Pattern Aqua' mirror by Amy Sia
So here are a few things to remember when it comes to modern decor. Thinking outside the box is key! Be bold with your choice of colour, embrace the unconventional (it's ok that things don't match) and don't be afraid to blend old with new.
I hope you've enjoyed today's post! I've got a few more furniture make-overs up my sleeve so keep a look out for them! Until then, happy decorating :)

Home Decor for Kids (Girls)
Hi guys!!
As promised, as a follow up to my last post I've put together some inspiration boards for home decor for girls! I personally think it's easier to create a bedroom for girls that will last them through their teens (but maybe that's because I'm a girl). I covered some basic 'rules' to creating a 'child-to-teen' room in my boys post but one rule that's usually saved for the fairer sex is that little girls love pink!
With this is mind I've come up with some ways you can use pink without turning your rooms into Barbie's dream palace...unless of course you want to...
Personally I love pink but it can be a touch overpowering if used incorrectly. Pairing pink with neutrals or white will definitely help tone it down a touch. Try throwing in a few navy accessories for a dash of youthful sophistication.
Shop the look: 1) 'Amirah Blue' duvet cover - Aimee St Hill
2) 'Spring 3' throw pillow - Aimee St Hill
3) 'Rain 10' throw pillow - Garima Dhawan
4) 'Ikat Damask Navy' throw pillow - Patty Sloniger
5) 'Dotty in Pink' art print - EbiEmporium
The great thing about pink is that it can liven up a space in minutes! Team pink with orange and turquoise for a fun playful look or keep it simple with white for a girly boudoir that she'll love forever!
Shop the look: 1) 'Hearts' shower curtain - Louise Machado
2) 'Pink Modern Baroque' shower curtain - Aimee St Hill
3) 'Leela Orange' quatrefoil mirror - Aimee St Hill
Whatever you decide to do with pink remember to have fun!
Happy decorating!! :)

Home Decor For Kids (Boys)
Hi guys!!!
I've been wanting to do this post for a while but I hadn't got round to it until now (mainly because I've been trying to figure out how best to structure it). I've decided to cover kid's home accessories over a few posts since there are so many great products and ideas out there. Today's post is all about boys!
I've noticed more and more that people are interested in creating children's spaces that they can enjoy well into their teens so that will be the focus of today's post.
It seems that the key to doing this is to keep to a fairly understated colour scheme and find accessories that are fun and bold without being specifically child-like. That Thomas the Tank Engine wall mural will be the first thing to go when your little boy starts wanting to bring home girls!
Check out these great products to liven up your boys bedroom!
Shop the look: 1) 'Phone Box' modern clock - Aimee St Hill
2) 'Leela Navy' duvet cover- Aimee St Hill
3) 'Boy Chocca Numbers' framed art print - Sharon Turner
4) '1932' throw pillow - Catherine McDonald
5) 'Goodnight Nobody' throw pillow - Danny Ivan
6) 'Nautical Lines' throw pillow - Holli Zollinger
Of course there's nothing wrong with Thomas the Tank Engine! But if you don't want the expense of redecorating over and over try limiting the very child-like items to things like throw pillows and wall art - small accents that can be cheaply replaced or removed when the child grows out of them.
Shower curtains are a great way to turn an otherwise understated bathroom into a child friendly environment. There are tons on the market and the great thing about them is that even if you pick a really child-like one it can be easily swapped out for a more teen friendly one later!
Check out these great products to brighten up your boys bathroom!
Shop the look: 1) 'Misfits' shower curtain - Andi Bird
2) 'Magnetic' shower curtain - Caroline Okun
3) 'Pass This On' shower curtain - Danny Ivan
4) 'Fish' quatrefoil mirror - Aimee St Hill
Thanks for reading guys! Keep you eyes peeled for my girly home accessories post and perhaps a few other child-friendly rooms over the next few weeks!
Take care and happy decorating! :)

DENY Designs Artist of the Week
Hi guys!
DENY Designs have made me artist of the week on their blog!!! :)
I've been with DENY Designs for a little over a year now and have really enjoyed getting to know the other artists through their work and social media. I'm so grateful to the entire team there and absolutely love being a part of it so I'm thrilled to hear they feel the same way!
'Aimée St. Hill is our gal pal. And, she’s just as super fun as her art! Aimée’s no stranger to DENY. Aimée has been with us since almost the beginning of the DENY and boy oh boy have we been lucky to have her!' Read more...
They put some lovely collections of my work together too! And did you see how they took the time to add the accent to my name?! So impressed! Even my own blog doesn't have that!!!
Anyhoo, that's it for now folks, I'm cooking up something for next week's post but until then don't forget you can catch me on Facebook for updates any time!
To see more of my collections on DENY Designs or to read the full feature please click here.

9 Fabulous Illustrated Pillows
Hi guys!!
Lately I'm really digging what I call 'hipster' home decor. You know, white walls with pops of bright colour, mismatched, quirky accessories and the occasional piece of refurbished 70's furniture. You know?? The kind of place that might house a trendy graphic designer or crafty collector of mason jars!
Are you with me? Just in case you're not here are some examples.
One of the things I love about this style is that pretty much anything goes! Funky illustrated accessories can hang out with bold graphic throws and that old dated couch suddenly looks cool again with those unusual cushions you bought from that place you can't remember the name of!
If you're looking to liven up your couch and you happen to like this style then you're in luck!
I've done a bit of digging around the DENY Designs website today and put together a list of 9 pillows that are just perfect for adding a bit of fun to your living room!
1) 'Bright Roses' - Aimee St Hill 6) 'Technicolour Raindrops' - Fimbis
2) 'Cross Out Black' - Wesley Bird 7) 'Banquet of Flowers Love' - Julia Da Rocha
3) 'Illustration' - Aimee St Hill 8) 'Girl' - Aimee St Hill
4) 'Triangle Seas' - Pattern State 9) 'Dreamer' - Holly Sharpe
5) 'Honaw' - Kris Tate
All these fabulous throw pillows (with the exception of pillow number 8) and more are available right now at DENY Designs.com so head over and take a look!
Until next time, happy decorating!! :)

3 Different Colours, 3 Different Looks!
Hello!
I'm back again with another post about colour and to introduce some of my new products (for those of you who haven't been following me on Facebook).
If you've been paying attention you'll know how much I love colour, and you may also know how much I like creating complex patterns. Sooo it seemed sensible that I base my latest print collection on something that incorporates both those elements!
Pinterest has provided me (and all of us) with inspiration from around the globe on a huge variety of subjects. I took a virtual trip to India and Morocco in search of interesting colour combinations, textiles, architecture and design.
After recovering from a sensory overload I got to designing!
I did think about combining all the products into one big, super colourful example but instead I decided I would show you three ways to achieve Indian/Moroccan fusion in your home using three different colour schemes.
Shop the products:
1) Ogee Blue Shower Curtain 6) Damask Coasters
2) Decorative Blue Wallpaper 7) Decorative Blue Sheet Set
3) Intertwined Blue Duvet 8) Blue Is Just A Mood Throw Pillow
4) Ogee Blue Throw Pillow 9) Paisley Blue Duvet
5) Paisley Blue Throw Pillow

The Tropical Room
With Summer approaching I thought it would be a good time to write a post that celebrates that time of year! This week it's all about tropical home decor!!
One of my favourite accessories when it comes to tropical decorating is plants! Adding greenery or fresh flowers to a room can really bring a sense of outdoor living inside! If you're not the green fingered type try incorporating plants into your bathroom another way; maybe with a great painting or shower curtain.
Shop the look: Artwork, DENY Designs shower curtain (top), DENY Designs shower curtain (bottom), bathroom accessories.
I absolutely LOVE this bedroom! The wall covering and the painting give this room a really cool retro vibe while the mixed prints on the bed keep it modern. If you're planning on putting lots of prints together make sure you establish a colour scheme. Adding a highlight colour like the blue in this bedroom keeps things interesting.
Shop the look: Lamp, Kess Inhouse throw pillow, DENY Designs throw pillow, duvet.
Colour is essential when creating a tropical room. The exposed wood looks great here set off against the bright furniture! If you're not a fan of painted furniture there are plenty of other ways to inject colour into your room. A great table setting might be all you need! How about adding a tropical print table cloth or some chair covers? Maybe a piece of artwork? Colourful tableware can go a long way to creating a tropical vibe. You could even create a simple centre piece by adding a nice vase or plant. Whatever you use, remember to look for colours that highlight others in the room.
Shop the look: Tropical dinner set, artwork, throw pillow
Creating a gallery wall is a great way to add interest to any room. The important thing is to stick to a theme whether it be colour or subject. Look for pieces that relate to each other in some way and continue the theme with other accessories. This will keep your room looking cohesive.
Shop the look: throw pillow (left), throw pillow (right), artwork

Product Sales & Events
I was thinking today that I totally neglected to mention some events that started this week involving my products! In light of this over-site here is a list of sales and events currently in operation should you want to get your hands on any Aimee St Hill products :)
First of all, Fab are holding a sale on select DENY Designs shower curtains. I was fortunate enough to have three of mine featured :) The sale closes on Sunday April 7th so act quickly if you wanna snap one of these babies up!
Shower curtains from left: Decorative red, Decorative blue, Blue is just a mood
Secondly, I have just signed a contract with Coques-iPhone ; a smart phone skin company based in France. This means FREE SHIPPING for all my French customers and also much faster delivery for all my peeps in the EU! At the moment they only carry three of my designs but the good news is they have a much bigger variety of cases and skins! Fingers crossed I'll be able to add more designs soon :)
This is an ongoing partnership so stop by at your leisure or click here to see all available cases!
Finally, my most exciting news!!
I'm very excited to be able to announce that select Aimee St Hill products are now available to buy online and in store at Kohl's!!!!
I would like to tell you that this is also an ongoing venture but I'll have to see how it goes!
To shop my Kohl's products click here!
That's that for the events, I'll try to be quicker off the mark next time!
Happy shopping :)
