Miri Raya weekend daytrip 11.9.2010'
day-trip from a couple of weekends ago during the Raya (Eid Fitri) weekend holidays...it was either go to the Istana(palace) for Open House or Miri...from my place its less then an hour during normal traffic but we don't go that often even-though you get great currency exchange Bnd$1=Rm$2.2+...don't be fooled...you always end up spending more then you need to BUT the food is always cheap but great.
8 out of 10 times i always come here for lunch...roasted duck/char siew rice open air restaurant located near the 2020 cafe in Pelita commercial centre...near where the main pubs/clubbing areas. Damn damn cheap but great stuff...not as great eaten after-wards if you take-away...gotta eat on the spot right after they chop it up.

we always order a plate of this...stir fried 'meeding'(?) or 'pakis' with baby shrimps...its a fern type of vegetables which grows wild on the highway heading into Miri town...you can often see people just picking the stuff off the road sides on a daily basis...great stuff...not available in Brunei or the mainland West Malaysia...odd.
had this kolo-mee at one of the many residential food-stalls opposite E-mart on the way home...not great but ok.Parksons...always crowded and always traffic jammed but the upper building parking makes it easier nowadays...
old-town or 'lau par sat'...mum always likes coming here to buy cheap supplies such as incense etc for the house prayer-altar.
We always make effort to pray here...the old temple in town...gives me a sense of well being.
Monkey prince *my 5 year old nephew certainly likes these day-trips. No-no toys haul...broke -_-."

1 night in Bangkok...
Wednesday 19th May 2010
my first ever trip to Bangkok...well stop over really on way back from my Munich work trip...and of all days...its the height of the red shirt riots...its REAL when you see armed soldiers at road blocks and diversions everywhere...so we had to use a lot of the back roads to get to our hotel.

was such a hot humid afternoon...this ice cold beer was heaven...and of course...when in Thailand drink Thai beer!!! we stopped at this charming little restaurant for a late afternoon lunch...
yup that's right...just outside where we had our late lunch...i would not dare to try out such 'things' but its quite a sight...even the po po on patrol were checking it out...hell yeah-you know your no longer in Brunei when you see street vendors selling fake Viagra on the streets..and next to it is a pirated DVD stall selling normal and gay porn in broad daylight...welcome to the real world.
accompany the boss to a small tailor to alter his suits...just opposite this small grocery shop...apparently most of the expatriates come here to buy their daily goods...
Bangkok city skyline view from my 18th floor hotel room...well curfew is 9pm later so can't do much and like i said most places are closed...so after a nice Thai massage nearby we could only have dinner at the restaurant inside the hotel...the hotel staff start to fence up the entrances etc...it looked like they were getting ready for a war...spooky.

so dinner is over...curfew just started...but damn bored...so headed to the bar for drinks...hell its either this or go back to room...
my first ever Mexican Mojito...not bad...we (me,my boss and his Thai lady friend) had a whole bottle of Johnny Walker red label...i didn't believe we could finish the whole bottle but we did...

hell yeah...the so called mini bar items in my room...one could really get sloshed this way...no need bar or pub...
well the next day we decided to leave early cos nothing to do in Bangkok...so before going to the airport i decided to go for a morning walk in downtown Bangkok...anyways that's it for my first time ever in Bangkok...what a weird experience but i want to come back again to see and feel the city again...please do pardon as i could only use my cellphone to take these pictures...its a public holiday today as our beloved Sultan celebrates his 64th birthday...I'll be back soon cos I'm just gonna chill and relax for the day..have a good one y'all..and yes no toy haul on this trip -_-
