BOOK EVENT TIPS | What to bring.

Now I’ve been to several book events in my time: Cassandra Clare, Maggie Stevater, John Marsden, Alyson Noel, Ruby Circle Launch party, Every Move launch and many others. With going to these events you tend to pick up a few things that you need for the next time you go to a book event again.

Bring your camera: Trust me, you are seriously going to regret it if you leave your camera at home! Book events are great for extra blog content and no one likes chunks and chunks of words without a picture or two. If you are lucky, you might even have the opportunity to take a picture with an author! Trust me, you don’t want to be camera-less in those situations. I’ve had nightmares where I meet celebrities without having anything to document it with. You can vlog too!

Bring a snack: You never know if there is going to be food there or how long you will be there for. You could be like Ely and I who only went to the Ruby Circle launch for the food that wasn’t present (we hadn’t read the book but we also wanted to support Richelle lovely Mead). I recommend a non-messy food so it doesn’t get all over your books in your bag. For example, a muesli bar or a small child (Only for cannibals).

Bring money: It’s a bookstore, you need money to buy books. Or if your like Ely on a book buying ban, don’t bring money, because YOU WILL buy books and YOU MAY regret it.

Wear comfortable shoes (Ely’s tip): You never know, there might not be seats and you might have to stand up for the whole time. If you do, come prepared.

Water: Just trust me. If you are not thirsty for some books, you will be thirsty for some water.

Bring a comfortable bag: Don’t be that awkward person (me) who brings a bag that is the most uncomfortable thing ever. Bring a big bag for books like a tote (do you see a trend here?) but not a huge handbag with twenty different pockets and awkward handles so that you will most likely create red welts when you hang it on your shoulder. Just something easy on the shoulders and something that is spacious.

Book/s: Bring the books that you are going to get signed if it is an author event(Or just have a random book to read if you are waiting in a line, because you will most likely be waiting in a line at least one point at the event). Sometimes, there are limitations on how many books you can get signed. For example, I went Cassandra Clare book event and we were only allowed to get three books signed. Most of the time, it is three books.I would bring at least two. And also, sometimes they would like you to buy a book to support the book store so make sure you get there relatively early so your not waiting in too many lines.

Portable phone charger: TRUST ME. THIS SAVES ME EVERYTIME.

And finally, this is not really an object, but dress up to the type of book event. Seriously, don’t be afraid to dress up as a Vampire/werewolf or alien because most likely, there will be costume competition, and there will be prizes, and who doesn’t like free merchandise?

THE FIFTH WAVE PLAYLIST // by Rick Yancey

So, If you have been hiding under a rock you might not know that “The Fifth Wave”, by Rick Yancy is becoming an official book to movie franchise!
The official soundtrack for the movie has not been set in stone so really you can’t blame me for trying to predict (or at least hope) the songs that I believe fit perfectly with the book series. I hope you agree with my choices and of course, if you have any ideas for this fan soundtrack, leave them down in the comments below!

Dreaming by Smallpools
-      Come on. If you don’t feel the post apocalyptic escape sensation that is this song, then there is something wrong with you. This song should be the theme to whole series because it totally gives off the feeling that the world is ending and everyone needs to escape. Every single lyric in the song is “The Fifth Wave.”

Radioactive by Imagine Dragons
-      I know that The Host has already stole this one but seriously, The Fifth Wave is all about “welcome to the new world”

Vagabond by Misterwives
-      Represents Cassie to me. She’s so alone in the world even though she is “pretending to not feel alone” with all the memories she carries.

Hurricane by Ms Mr
-      Also represents Cassie’s state of mind. She has to kill people without blinking as the world has gotten to the point in which that is necessary. I really can’t say anything more without spoiling the series so I am going to have to leave it at that.

The Last Day On Earth – Kate Miller Heidke
-      Remember in the first book how Cassie was all like, “Oh my god I must be the last person in the world”? Well, this kind of brings back those feelings of the loneliness she felt.

Run by Daughter

-      Run, Cassie, Run. They are on to you.

If you have any other suggestions, leave them down below!

EMERGENCY BOOK-MOURNING KIT

Every Book Lover has been through it once. It’s painful, heart wrenching, agonizing and pretty much all synonyms for something that really really hurts.

ACCORDING TO URBAN DICTIONARY, the definition of Book Mourning is:

When you finish a really good book or tv show or whatever and you feel all empty and achy and sad. Usually these feelings are followed by large consumptions of food, sleeping all day and just being all around depressed.

That is the truest thing I’ve heard all day.

No need to fear, abooksofathomless has got your back! If you happen to obtain any of the above symptoms, follow the steps below as soon as possible to limit damage done to others and specifically self.

First things first, change into something comfortable. Pajamas, onesies and even nudity are acceptable forms of comfortable, depending on location. You know you are not going to be moving for days so you might as well get comfortable.

My guess is that you’ve already situated yourself in a place of isolation. Perhaps the lounge room, your room or even the fridge. Good.

We are now ready to introduce the items that are inside the Emergency Book Mourning Kit.

YOU WILL NEED:

BOOKS: If your lucky enough to not be in a reading slump, read to take your mind off the death of a series, standalone or tv show. Perhaps, an all time favorite reread or maybe something cute by Stephanie Perkins or Rainbow Rowell? Cute defeats book mourn. Remember that.

MUSIC: Here again, we want to avoid those really depressing rip your heart out songs that make you go, “Oh, that reminds me of the book I am currently mourning. How about we mourn some more?” No. STOP RIGHT THERE. Mhm. We are going to get past this together. If you are mourning the end of a bookish couple, Taylor Swift just won’t be for you. Just, stay away from the, “That song is consuming my soul”, kind of music.

FOOD: I recommend all food, but more specifically, comfort food. You need comforting. Comfort food is comforting as it is comfort food. Ice cream is comfort food. Chocolate is comfort food. You could eat people if you find comfort in that, but I don’t think that’s morally acceptable. Just eat. Trust me on this one.

·
TISSUES: To mop up the river of tears cried by you.
·

BUCKET: For when you run out of tissues.
·

A   DAM: To empty out all the buckets in. Or an ocean. You could get an ocean. I’ve always wanted an ocean. But I do think a dam is more obtainable.

    BLANKET AND PILLOW: Self explanatory.

If you know someone who is suffering through this horrible period of life, send them to this blogpost/ video.  Not all these tips and tricks will work, but if one sticks with you, that’s good enough. Go forth, my friends.

“THE VAMPIRE ACADEMY MOVIE IS HORRIBLE”

That’s our cue VA fans. No one will question our fandom once we take revenge into our own hands once some stupid non-book reader comes to claim the hate on the thing that has consumed every thought in our mind. Yup. It’s time we refuse to accept that once the Vampire Academy becomes a movie that people will hate on the movie/books just because the title has “VAMPIRE,” in it.  So the next time someone says, “The Vampire Academy Movie is Horrible.” We’ll know what to do. Call the BLOOD HOUNDS. That aside! Have you heard the news of our baby?

If you haven’t heard by now, (and if you haven’t, please go to the doctor to check your hearing) there is MEGA FANTASTIC HUGE casting news for the Vampire Academy MOVIE! Yup, our three leading babes have been casted!

Click here for Penguin Publishers Australia Post. Click here for Richelle Meads Post. That should get you up to the CURRENT HYPE!

(Scroll down for the cast's AMAZING HEADSHOTS!)

First of all, lets get this straight: I have reread the Vampire Academy series more than any other book series EVER. It was the first whole series of books I have ever owned and it’s one of the only books I keep going back to. No other series have ever made me feel the feelings between two partners like this damn series has. So if you’re the same, comment down below so we can cry together!

There are a lot of mixed feelings about the cast (and absolutely about the title! Blood Sisters!) Some are pleased, and some are miserable (Which one are you? Leave a comment), which is what to expect when turning a best selling book into a movie.

And honestly, my preferred lead cast was:
Rose: Odette Yustmen/Annabelle (Picture left) 2nd: Lyndsy Fonseca 3rd: Agnes Bruckner ( Blood and Chocolate GURL! Though she needs darker hair)
(The Rose on the front cover of the first book will always be the Rose Hathaway for me, but Odette comes close as an actress! She is beautiful and just reminds me of her completely. It is someone Dimitri would fall in love with…because I somehow know his taste ;). )
Dimitri: Ben Barnes 2nd Matt Bomer
(I know Dimitri is described as a long hair fella, but whenever he enters my head, and that’s quite frequently, he has short hair. That aside, It took me a while to accept him as an excellent Dimitri. But I finally did…though I’m still unsure)
Lissa: Amber Heard
(I just looked her up now, and I think she’s suitable for Liss. I never really thought about who would be perfect to play her, maybe because I haven’t found that person yet!

The Current Cast that they chose is still fantastic, especially Rose Hathaway’s look. The only one I’m not happy about is Dimka, but he still might surprise us!

Here ‘s my rating.
Zoey Deutch as Rose: 8/10 (Well! They've made me happy)

Lucy Fry as Lissa: 7/10 (Find the Blonde Photo's and THAT'S HER!)

Danila as Dimka: 5/10 (Not my Dimitri, but he is hot!)

Leave a comment down below on your preferred cast and your rating on the current actors? But seriously, how excellent are these photos of them!?

Xx

AUTHOR INTERVIEW: Barbara Brunner

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Barbara grew up in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania with her parents, sister and always a dog, or two or three. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from a small women's college in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Meeting her husband in Washington, DC, they continued together on a journey as self-proclaimed dog addicts. In the ensuing years, she founded three successful businesses in the Pacific Northwest and is a prolific fundraiser for breast cancer research. She and her husband are retired and now reside in Southwest Florida with two dogs and copious amounts of dog fur. She is currently working on indulging her well known flip flop addiction.

1. Do you have a usual writing process that you go through? What is it?
I do not have an unusual writing process, per se. I do need total quiet in my office when trying to formulate ideas. I do not like to be disrupted.

2. Did your book end up the way you wanted in the end? Did it change from the first plan to the final draft? Are you happy with how it ended up?
My book did change quite a bit from inception to the finished manuscript. The guts of it remained constant, but the beginning and end were originally totally different. They evolved through the editing process to provide a more clear beginning and end and ultimately a much better book. Apparently my readers think so too, as the book soared to number one on Amazon a few weeks ago.

3. What was the hardest part about writing your book? Do you feel you learnt anything from it?
Since it is a true story, the hardest part of writing the book was reliving the memories. Some were very happy memories and some were quite sad. I involved my family and friends to tell the stories as they remembered them and it was challenging to incorporate some drastically different versions and write them into one consistent tale. I am continually amazed at how two people in the same room under the same circumstances and at the same time can remember a situation so differently. I understand why eye witnesses to crime scenes cause confusion to the police.

4. Do you research for your novels? If so, how much?
my research took the form of sifting through thousands of photographs. I was amazed at the memories each photo brought back to me. If there is one piece of advice I can give to anyone in this digital age is to remember the necessity of printing physical copies of photos. They will transcend when placed into photo albums for future generations.

5. How do you find or make time to write?

I do not force writing time. I start when I feel motivated. If I have a deadline, it stifles my creative process.

6. Do you have any tips for wannabee Authors?

My advice is to write as much as you can. It will only serve to improve your style. Take the opinions of others lightly. Learn from advice, but do not let it tempt you to change your content. I have seen many a budding novelist stymied by an editor or teacher who through poor skills or possibly jealousy caused a fabulous book to be shelved. Be confident in your work, go to school and learn as much about your language as you can. Become a great editor and if all else fails, HIRE a great editor.
