Lady accidentally hangs self to 'stop' boyfriend from committing suicide


A tragic event took place when a 23-year-old lady attempted to stop her troubled boyfriend allegedly from self-harming. 

Corinne Hayes, 23, feared Brian Marshall was about to commit suicide when she sent a message saying: “If you are going to do it, so am I – meet you on the other side”.

Cameroon extends detention for writer Patrice Nganang


Cameroonian author Patrice Nganang has had his custody extended by 48 hours by the authorities, his lawyer said on Tuesday, nearly a week after his arrest for publishing an article critical of the country’s president.

“His detention was extended (Monday) for 48 hours by the state prosecutor,” lawyer Emmanuel Simh told AFP, adding that Nganang would “in principle” appear before the prosecutor after its expiry.

Woman bites electricity workers for disconnecting her light


A 28-year-old trader, Kemi Shopade, who allegedly assaulted two Ikeja Electric workers that wanted to disconnect her electricity wire, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Shopade, resident of Alaguntan, Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy and assault.

Edgal Imohimi, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police has revealed that the police have shot dead 32 armed robbers during gun-battle, arrested 299 others and lost six officers in the last 10 months.

Imohimi disclosed this today at the 11th Town Hall meeting on Security held at the State House, Ikeja, Lagos.  According to him, from January to October 2017, 299 armed robbers were arrested while 32 robbers were killed during encounters with the police.

Anyone Caught Abusing The Naira Will Face Jail Terms - CBN Warns


The Central Bank of Nigeria on Friday warned Nigerians against abusing the naira notes.

The apex bank said anyone caught abusing the naira would be prosecuted and if convicted the person risked six months in jail or a fine of N50,000.

An official of the Currency Operation Department at the CBN headquarters, Mr. Samuel Shuaibu, disclosed this in Calabar, Cross River State capital, during the commencement of the ‘CBN Fair’, which was to sensitise residents of the state to the appropriate use of the naira.

A main market Magistrates’ court, at Lugard road, Jos on Wednesday sentenced one Zubairu Dauda, a tailor, to six months imprisonment for stabbing one Usman Mohammed.

The Presiding Magistrate, Jovita Binjin, sentenced Dauda after he pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of causing grievous hurt.

32 SARS operatives mostly from Lagos arrested, detained in Abuja


A source told TheCable that the arrested officers were moved to Abuja from different state commands during the weekend.

“The suspects, who are all male, are now being held at various detention cells of the Federal SARS at Guzape District Abuja,” the source said.

FIFA Fines Nigeria, Cancels Winning Match


FIFA on Tuesday clamped down the Nigeria Football Federation with a whoopy 6,000 Swiss Francs (about N2,177,280) fine and also cancelled Super Eagles 3-0 victory in a Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying match against Algeria.

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA) says it has intercepted a shipment of dried weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa concealed in building materials.

According to the NDLEA , Edo State Commander, Mr. Wakawa Buba, the drug packed in 409 bags with a total weight of 7,073 kg was ingeniously concealed in a consignment of building materials in a truck with Ondo Registration Number XB 625 WEN.

Nigeria seeks global support on climate change


President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday in Paris appealed to the international community to support Nigeria’s commitment to reducing the effects of climate change.

In a submission to the One Planet Summit attended by over 60 heads of state and governments, as well as representatives of non-governmental and private organisations, the President said: “We cannot implement our Nationally Determined Contribution without adequate financial, technical and capacity building support from the developed countries.”

Two sisters arrested in Akwa Ibom after their brother’s girlfriend almost bled to death following botched abortion


One Aniedi Emah Akpan is pleading with the Akwa Ibom State Police Command to release two sisters, who were arrested over a botched abortion carried out by their brother and his girlfriend.

According to Mr Akpan, the young girl started bleeding excessively after the induced abortion  carried out with the help of her 20-year-old boyfriend, who has since absconded. As his sister Mercy Okon and one Ime Steven, who was called to help, were about to take her to the hospital, the police arrived the compound and arrested them. Man kills wife of 10 years for not giving him food


A 50-year-old man, Bamaiyi Tanko, has been arrested by the Niger State Police Command for allegedly murdering his wife, Auta, 30.

According to the police, Tanko, allegedly hacked Auta, to death following an altercation and to cover up the crime, he threw the cutlass he allegedly used, into a nearby bush.
