Thanksgiving Book Picks and Reviews

No Time For Flashcards used the book Thanksgiving on Plymouth Plantation to put together a timeline activity.

Thanksgiving Day at Our House (reviewed by Wild Rose Reader) is a poetry book for very young children. My children love this book and have memorized several of the simple rhymes.

Wild Rose Reader shares personal reviews for many Thanksgiving books.
My Teaching Heart has a great visual list of favorite Thanksgiving texts, in addition to many other turkey themed activities.
What are we reading this holiday season?
My 2 year old son enjoys My First Thanksgiving.  It is a simple text in board book that explains Thanksgiving. The highlight of this book for me are the illustrations by Tomie dePaola.

My 1 year old's favorite thanksgiving book from our shelf is Five Silly Turkeys.  He takes great delight in turning the crinkly feather pages. A Mommy's Adventure shares a stART activity for this book if you are interested.

My 5 year old daughter is a beginning reader.  She loves to show us her stuff by reading More Snacks! A Thanksgiving Play. It is from a series of Ant Hill Pre-Level 1 readers.

When she allows me to read to her, I love to share the story The Littlest Pilgrim and a precious pilgrim girl who wants to do big things. It is appropriate for preschool and kindergarten age children.

My 7 year old can not get enough of the Magic Tree House books and their accompanying research guides. The Thanksgiving books are Thanksgiving on Thursday and Pilgrims. I was excited when I found the printable book guide for Gavin to work on while he reads Thanksgiving on Thursday. (By the way, the site actually has book guides for almost all of the MTH books!)

All four of our kiddos love Arthur's Thanksgiving, although I know I have shared before that it is not one of my favorites;)

Throughout the month I will share poems from Jack Prelutsky's It's Thanksgiving compilation with the kids.  Giggle Inducing!

Disclosure: Several of the book titles mentioned are linked to Amazon.  They are not affiliate links.

Tangled and True put together a paper leaf garland in the days leading up to Thanksgiving.

The ladies from the letter 4 shared a free printable for counting down the days, and your blessings, from now until Thanksgiving.

Project Naptime designed a felt turkey to build on each day as you countdown to Thanksgiving.

Clever Cornucopia Crafts & Horn of Plenty Snacks

Welcome! New to ABC and 123? Please check out our FAQ in the sidebar.

Fryman Four had a day of cornucopia fun with a musical cornucopia game and an adorable {not-so-healthy} cornucopia snack, and a yummy looking {much healthier} cornucopia lunch idea.

Make a mosaic cornucopia like this one from Confessions of a Homeschooler.

This easy cornucopia craft is from Out of The Crayon Box.

The burlap and raffia crafted cornucopia at Someday Crafts is a lovely version and would be possible with lots of mommy/teacher help.

Craft of the Day shares templates for putting together construction paper cornucopias.

Share Your Thanksgiving Blog Hop

Welcome! New to ABC and 123?
Please check out our FAQ in the left sidebar.

We hope all our reader in the US had a very nice Thanksgiving weekend. Today's the day we hope you'll all link up your posts sharing how you celebrated, what you ate, who was there, and all the things you are thankful for!

If your country's Thanksgiving is on another day, like for all our Canadian friends, please add your post to our linky too. We always enjoy learning about how other cultures celebrate. Don't do Thanksgiving? Then please add a link to post in which you share special family time or a tradition.

Before we get to the linky, we wanted to share a few ways to focus on family and being thankful, two things synonymous with this holiday for so many of us.

Michelle at A Little Tipsy, put together this fun family tree file folder activity and has provided a blank version for you to download and customize for your family.
Annette at Live, Learn, Love made these lovely family trees, what a lovely handmade keepsake this will be with all the family member's name's added!

After their big meal, it's a family tradition to go on a family walk, JDaniel4's Mom shares two activities they like to do while burning off their turkey. We think the paint chip idea is especially fun. While you're there take a look at the Thankfulness Turkey and placemat her son made.
JDaniel4's Mom has also been working on this Thanksgiving Chain, it's a fun twist on those paper chains usually seen as countdown to Christmas or decorating a tree. Each day a link is added along with something they are thankful for.

Kami at Nurturing the Tender Years, made these thankful wreaths with her son.

We also like the Thankful Wreath shown on Miller Moments, using hands is such a fun touch.

We're looking forward to blog hoppin' on over to your place! Please add your direct link to your Thanksgiving post below, a link back here to make it easier for everyone to find there way back would be appreciated☺

Thanksgiving Break

Welcome! New to ABC and 123?
Please check out our FAQ in the left sidebar.

Most of our reader in the United States are probably gearing up for Thanksgiving this Thursday. As we both celebrate this holiday too, we'll be taking a short break starting this Wednesday through Sunday.

We are looking forward to making our final meal preparations and spending time with our families. You can be sure that we'll be taking lots of pictures and sharing them on our personal blogs. We want to see how you all celebrate too!

Please plan to link up your Thanksgiving post on Monday November 30th.

If your country's Thanksgiving is on another day, like for all our Canadian friends, please add your post to our linky too. We always enjoy learning about how other cultures celebrate. Don't do Thanksgiving? Then please add a link to post in which you share special family time or a tradition.

To help you finish your party planning we wanted to share three great ideas from our readers that are all based on picture books featuring the iconic American Thanksgiving symbol, the turkey. We thought each of their crafts could be incorporated into your Thanksgiving meal as well!

Our Nifty Notebook read 10 Fat Turkeys and then made 10 handprint turkeys. "I am thankful for" and a family member's name is going to be written on each one. These would make fun cards to send in the mail or to place at each tablesetting on top of the plate for the big meal as place cards.

At A Mommy's Adventures they made turkey's all ready to go to the ball, based on the book The Turkey Ball by David Steinberg. A rafter of turkey's, would be a fun kid made centerpiece.
A Mommy Talks made this adorable turkey headband with her son after reading Run Turkey Run! by Diane Mayr. Wouldn't it be a cute craft for the kids to make and then wear while eating Thanksgiving dinner?

Has November flown by at your house? Seems like we just finished trick-or-treating and it's already time for planning the big turkey dinner for Thanksgiving!

Katie from Katie's Nesting Spot shared three of the turkey themed centers she used to use when teaching kindergarten: Turkey Letters, Turkey Feather Numbers, and Turkey Numbers
Teaching Two had a great way to practice your name and can be done over and over. Be sure to see their cute coffee filter turkeys in the same post.
Michelle at Green Olives and Ham shows off her matching file folder game, that she suggests can also be played as a Memory Match up type game.

We love this cute felt ABC turkey sent in by Starr at http://www.examiner.com/! Click through the slideshow and see how the feathers can be used to spell out words such as Thursday and Thanks.
Our Journey at Hillside Manor reviewed the alphabet with this turkey activity, done during their letter T week. The template she used is link to in her post, so you can try it out too!
Amy at Preschooling at Home made their turkey handprint craft using foam, and the artist is shown proudly showing off her work.
At My Family My Forever, they made their turkey with a butternut squash print. What fun and it is the perfect shape for a turkey body!
They also made this adorable play-doh turkey, using handmade glitter play-doh. Susana shares the recipe and two favorite Thanksgiving books in the same post.
Silly Eagle Books shared these handprint turkeys, done after they read Setting the Turkeys Free

Isn't this a cute hand and foot turkey, sent to us by The Fifth Street Academy?
The Adventures of Bear sent us this magnetic turkey, that can be used to pratice patterns.

We thought we'd end on really fun note, and get you all thinking about how to devise your own Turkey Trap!
Bobbi at Casa Camacho and her family made this turkey trap, and then caught their family's "poor, defenseless" Guinea Pig in it!
